American Cultural Shifts: Examining the Issues That Are Tearing Our Country Apart

Rate this book
Is it time to hit the reset button on America? History has shown us that great world powers don’t fail because of a lack of food, too much debt, a weak military, or an absence of trade. What ultimately causes their collapse is the loss of the common identity that binds people together. Not since the Civil War has the absence of a common American identity been more pronounced. It’s almost as if we should hit the reset button on the American culture to bring us back together. American Cultural Shifts is a clear and strident call for patriotic Americans at both ends of the political spectrum to pause, lay down our agendas, and consider the consequences of demonizing their political opponents. Dr. Alan Scarrow former President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons takes readers on a deep exploration into the complex social issues facing our country and fueling our divisive culture. Scarrow presents insightful and thoroughly researched discussions about inequality of power; racism; social media; religious beliefs; media bias; and distrust of science, government, and business. A sober reality that the polarizing issues are tearing our nation apart. Is America, with a profound diversity of race, religion, language, values, and core beliefs, capable of such change? Read American Cultural Shifts to stimulate your mind and reach your own conclusion.

Very thought provoking. I am aware of where I stand as a conservative. For me it does point out different aspects that we need to discuss together in order to move forward in our nation. With technology and social media, the algorithms always take us to those with the same beliefs. This doesn't allow for all view points. I also think that social media has helped fuel some of the hateful rhetoric. All in all, I do feel it was a well thought out and a good read.
