Restless Night: Insomniac Duet #1

Rate this book

I loathe Micah Reed. Yet, I can't keep my eyes off him.

Years ago, he opened his mouth in a room full of our peers. Said nine words and ruined my life.

My high school crush did exactly that... crushed me.

But I am no longer the quiet, loner girl from high school. The girl who let others trample her spirit.

Now, I take charge. Stand tall. Bend to no one. Never again.

Especially Micah Reed.

Peyton Alexander makes me question my sanity. Yet, I refuse to stop antagonizing her.

Since her first day at work, she has given me the death glare. Lipped off and verbally slapped me.

And every night, I go back for another round.

Not sure what I did to deserve her animosity, but I plan to find out. Plan to fix whatever mistake I made.

Although I live for her banter, I want more with Peyton. The attention she gives other men, I want it for myself.

Call me presumptuous, but Peyton Alexander will be mine.

Micah wants me because I don't fall for his charms.

Peyton resists to deny herself the truth.

Will he figure out who I am?

Will she ever let me in?

Yet again, this author is able to draw me in with her writing and endearing characters. I know that my heart and emotions will be tested when I dive into her books. Why would this one be any different.

Peyton and Micah attended high school together. For one, it was smooth sailing. For the other it was some of the darkest moments of their life. Years later, they both work at a club named Roar.
They interact when needed and it's usually snippy and laden with hostility. Over time their encounters become more heated. The sexy tension is strong with these two.

Peyton is standoffish and keeps him at arms length. He can't fathom why that is. Women usually fawn over him. All he wants is to get to know her better (in and outside of the bedroom) and she's cryptic with why that can't be. He's determined to understand why she feels that way. What has he done that would make her act this way towards him? She's friendly to everyone else, but not to him. He does enjoy the verbal foreplay they are having though. It's just going to make it even sweeter when he can have her.

Little by little revelations are made. She nudges him with statements that hold a clue as to what he should know. There is so much beyond the banter. He just needs to start thinking with the right *head*

I was racking my brain trying to figure out how you were gonna leave us when this book ended. THAT. WAS. NOT. HOW!! What the heck!!! Can't wait for their conclusion!!

Universal

Micah cannot believe how much the object of his fascination, Peyton, despises him, and he still can't figure out why. She's sweet and sunshiney with everyone at the bar where they both work, but as soon as she sees him her eyes spit fire at him. Although he doesn't know why she hates him, he's determined to have her. He just has to figure out why she hates him and somehow reverse those feelings. If only he could figure it all out, now, so he can get Peyton to look at him with something far more beautiful than contempt.

Peyton's high school life was hell all thanks to her coworker, who for the life of him, cannot figure out why she hates him. She isn't sure if he's just stupid, has a bad memory, or if she's really that forgettable, but she knows she'll never be with him the way he seems to want her. But her body certainly has a different opinion of the guy than her mind. When he starts showing her a different side than she usually sees, will she give into their attraction? Or keep holding the grudge high school nurtured within her?

OK, first things first - that cliffhanger! I hate cliffies, especially when they're as horrible as this one. OK, mini-rant over. Aside from the cliffhanger, I liked everything else about Restless Night. Peyton is awesome - strong, sassy and determined to keep herself from being hurt again by her former bully. I only like bully romances when the bully redeems him or herself, and I think Micah managed to do that. He clearly wasn't the jerk he had been in high school any longer, and once he figured out why she hated him, he went about showing her his true self. The cliffhanger killed me, though, so now I'm very anxiously awaiting A Love So Bright so I can see how they manage to get out of the mess they've found themselves in.

Restless Night by Persephone Autumn is an emotional enemies to lovers and second chance romance. Micah and Peyton are ready for a volatile, desire filled and heartaching journey. I loved Peyton so much and I cannot wait to see how she finds the happily ever after she deserves.

This book is the first book of a duet and ends with a shocking revelation.Peyton Alexander was bullied by her schoolmates but she fought against it and used the pain and tears to become this fierce and beautiful and confident woman. She meets the blast from the past, Micah Reed when she starts working in Roar, a bar owned by her dear friend and supporter. Micah is instantly attracted to her but doesn't understand why Peyton hates him and pushes his buttons as he cannot remember this version of Peyton. Will Peyton give him a second chance?

I absolutely loved Peyton. No question about it. She has suffered through discrimination and bullying but she didn't break down. She has become this amazing woman who is confident and sassy and hard working and doesn't let anyone to push her. She didn't forgive Micah completely even till the end of this book. She had a crush on him since school and she can see this Micah has changed. But she is weary of getting hurt. Micah was an arrogant jock in school and after being betrayed badly, he is continuing his playboy ways. He isn't ready to let anyone in and content with meaningless sexual conquests. But Peyton makes him feel. Makes him explode. Makes him crazy. And once he figures out the reason of Peyton's animosity, he is ready to do the work. I love that he is remorseful of the past but he still has a lot of work to do. His heart is full of mistrust and doubt and he tends to lash out easily. This book is a slow burn and focuses more on building the emotional connection between Micah and Peyton. They had some sweet and swoony moments together but it is just the beginning. Specially with the bombshell from Micah's past dropping at the door of Roar at the last page..

Having read the previous books in the Bay Area Duet Series i couldn't wait for more! So the second the Insomniac Duet was announced i instantly started looking forward to it! I picked this first book up as soon as i could and got into it quickly. I so enjoyed it!

This first installment in Peyton and Micah's journey grabbed my attention from the get go! These two went to high school together and Micah says something that hurts Peyton terribly. Years later, these two have to work together and Micah doesn't understand her hatred towards him. As they get under each other's skin, I couldn't wait to see how things would play out in this first book.

I was so glad that i got jump into both of their minds. I loved how i felt so many emotions throughout with Peyton and Micah! I really liked their banter and The chemistry between them was great!

With Restless Night, Ms.Autumn has created such a good read that will pull you in and make you feel so much! I'll be counting down the days until May gets here and i can dive into the continuation, A Love So Bright!

Peyton and Micah went to High school together and now they work together. Peyton has a major chip on her shoulder and Micah has no idea why. Micah wants to find out what the problem is so he can fix it because he really likes Payton. As they work on their past problems will this effect their future? Will any of this effect their working relationship? This was a cute quick read with an emotional overtone and a cliffhanger that had me gasping a little. This group of friends are supportive and funny with some laugh out loud banter. This is a slow burn that is definitely worth the wait. I can’t Wait to see what book two brings us.

My first PA book, but it definitely won’t be my last, and not even just because of that cliffy. Like I’m headed back to go through this group of friends ASAP.

Micah & Peyton might have a history that stretches many years, but they also have a chemistry that’s so palpable between them that I am dying to know if they’re gonna take the steps, heal the hurts and fall in love.

I can’t wait to find out what’s next for them.

This is a really great read. Has great background and story to still come. Peyton and Micah’s heated arguments were really fun to read. They both grew so much through this book. I can’t wait to see how they both react in book two with the cliffhanger at the end. This was a great read and definitely recommend reading this book.

Enjoyable story, loved that banter back and forth between the characters, it was funny with them snipping and sniping at one another and some of those comebacks some were doozies.

Micah and Peyton have a history, the problem is Micah can't remember her, but, Peyton remembers him just fine. Clearly, Peyton showed a side of hatred for him but, the man had nothing but lust for her, and that he never seemed to give up finding out the secret between them. It does bother him that she is like that and only him, if only he could remember.

Peyton's younger years could have gone either two ways, one could have ended with horrific consequences, the other where Peyton decided to focus her anger differently and became stronger and more confident in her life moving forward.

Loved Micah and Peyton together even when they were slaying verbal slurs against one another because there was always this underlying sexual current or attraction or a pull between them and because of that someway, or somehow they would be able to work out their past between them.

Loved Peyton's character a lot and in the end loved how she offered Micah an olive branch moving past the bitterness she has toward him but, It's still up to him to remember what happened in the past and right a wrong done to her.

Overall, loved the laying of the foundation between these two for what's to come but, the pain is not over for these characters it's remains to be seen if what they were trying to build between one another is strong enough to survive for what fate has in store for them next.

First time author for us, and we have to say we really enjoyed our first read by them.

Persephone Autumn is back again with another duet series from within Bay Area Duets. Having already read the first three duet series, Persephone had me hooked, which is why it had me wanting to read Insomniac Duet.
Restless Night the first book within the duet tells the story of Peyton Alexander and Micah Reed through their dual perspective.

Peyton and Micah’s journey may have started back in High school, when Peyton’s secret crush Micah ultimately ended up humiliating and crushing her heart in front of the whole school in a way that left her broken and scarred.
Whilst Peyton may have still carried that pain, despite many years having gone by. That didn't mean she was still the same girl from back then, now standing tall and strong, she is always ready and willing to give it all back to her enemy Micah. Since he happens to be the manager of the club she bartends at.

This book was most probably the most entertaining story from the series. From the get go, the back and forth that Peyton and Micah had going with their banter led to some comical moments. Always throwing metaphorical punches at one another with pushing each other’s buttons. It was funny to see and watch, especially considering it had you waiting to see what they would do or say next.
At the same time they brought a lot of tension too from the drama, given the emotions they were dealing with. All of which seemed to be changing over time the more they were in each other’s company.

If there is one thing Persephone Autumn is known for, it’s that she knows how to write a Slow Burn.
Restless Night probably has to be the slowest Slow Burn I have ever read.
It’s what lead to Peyton and Micah's relationship being a journey that was snail pace slow. Which was understandably so and can’t be faulted, especially since it made it more realistic with them being enemies and all.
In fact it’s what reeled me in, keeping me on my toes wondering will they or won’t they? And when? If they were to forward together.

There was a period where my attention started to wane when the excitement that had kept me going (from the anticipation of seeing where the story would lead) fizzled out.
However it didn’t last too, seeing as Persephone managed to reel me back, bringing the pizazz needed back that ended up keeping me holding on and reading through to the very end.

Oh damn that ending. Wow, Persephone Autumn did it again.
Can’t say the cliffy wasn’t expected, but what was unexpected was what occurred in the cliffhanger.
After reading Restless Night, it definitely has me looking forward to seeing how Peyton and Micah’s story will conclude in A Love So Bright.

Persephone Autumn has done it again. In Restless Nights we return to the Bay Area Duet Series and are introduced to Micah and Peyton. Starting with a prequel, Persephone paints such a vivid and emotional setup of Peyton being bullied in High School. The scene is handled with such skill and artistry that you will be petitioning for Persephone to write a full-length YA novel. The heart-wrenching scene is merely the setup for the rest of Restless Night. This Second Chance romance reunites Peyton with one of her tormentors years later.
Peyton remains haunted by those high school years but has forced herself to reinvent herself. She is no longer the loner quiet kid from high school. These days she gives as good as she gets, trading in insults and wity banter behind the bar with her old nemesis.
This enemies to lovers tale is woven with such skill that will have you laughing out loud one moment and balling your fists the next. The back and forth between Micah and Peyton crackles as this page-turner flies to a cliff-hanger that will have you checking your calendar for the next release.
It is impossible to read Restless Night and not pick up pom poms rooting for Peyton - the girl who was nearly crushed in high school, but who picked herself up, brushed off the pain and stands tall ready for the next challenge. Go Peyton Go.

Right from the very tragic beginning I was pulled into this emotional rollercoaster ride that yanked on my heartstrings, made me furious at times and then got me all heated and worked up over tension alone!

Peyton and Micah’s second chance at love had me continually laughing out loud. Their interactions were hilarious and all the back and forth digs at each other were rife with so much sexual tension that it had me hoping that they would eventually give in to it and they would explode on the pages. It was so intense at times that it had my toes curling and would leave me breathless at every interaction they had. The steam oozed off the pages and nearly had me melting into a puddle of goo! Ugh I am ready to explode! And there wasn’t even any sex!!

This story is really well written. It’s captivating, highly entertaining and very titillating. Definitely a slow burn love story that will leave you begging for more after being left with your jaw on the floor at the end.

I can’t wait for the second part of Peyton and Micah’s story.

Peyton & Micah went to high school together & it was brutal as she was bullied terribly. Peyton was a quiet loner who Micah destroyed with just some words, and it's taken her a while to get past it to reinvent herself. Now we're at the point where Peyton comes off as a confident, sassy, and strong heroine who ends up working with Micah. She wants nothing to do with him, and Micah can't even remember why she was so angry with him because he's still arrogant (not as bad as high school though) so he's used to women falling over themselves to get with him. He wants to get to know Peyton better, but she's not having it or even really telling him why he deserved it in my eyes LOL! The chemistry is intense though as their interactions start shooting sparks everywhere, and that's all I'm going to say about that. See, this is only part of their story & we're left with a very mean cliffy so I find myself waiting very impatiently for the conclusion as I'M ALL IN with their emotional second chance journey! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This book truly had it all. Passion, romance, intensity and an enemies to lovers story that is beautiful and very compelling. Micah and Peyton knew each other in high school and although Micah didn’t treat her very well because of peer pressure years later when they actually work together he does not realise she is the girl from his past. Peyton holds a grudge but eventually when Micah realises who she is and apologises to her it helps to ease the pain from the past and thaws towards Micah and slowly they begin to form relationship. Although Micah is a womaniser he feels very differently toward Peyton. These characters are both strong but the chemistry is undeniable from the beginning. Loved reading about Micah and Peyton and I am looking forward to the next book to see what Ms Autumn has in store because we were left with a juicy cliff hanger at the end of this book. Ms Autumn is a wonderful author and her books will not disappoint.

I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

No spice but plenty of tension

Persephone has written another book full of coupling tension. The will they or won't they keeps us readers guessing to the last page. The book takes us through Peyton and Micah's present relationship, and everything they went through in high school. Will their dislike for one another lead to something more, maybe. This book has no spicy scenes but it is a great read.

Isn't it amazing what happens sometimes when you read dialogue? Well, Ms. Autumn has provided so many feels from her dialogue, the banter between the mains!

This is my first book by this author and absolutely, not my last!

Both Micah and Peyton jumped from the pages!

Ms. Autumn is able to paint scenes that put you there. Man did I feel that high school scene! Some people's memories stick with them forever!

I didn't know this was book one, and I'm happy to read more about Micah and Peyton! Bring It On!!!

This was an interesting plot line! The characters felt real and appropriately flawed. I already pre-ordered the next book. The only thing I didn't like was the absolute cliffhanger at the end. Luckily, the new book comes out soon!

She was once the quiet, loner in high school but now Peyton doesn't take any crap from anyone.
This is especially true for her boss, Micah.
Peyton loathes him but also can't keep her eyes off him.
Micah doesn't recognise her and can't work out why she hates him, but he is determined to fix whatever is the problem so that he can have her.

OMFG the banter and sexual chemistry between these two was amazing!

Peyton is an incredible character. She's worked through her struggles and come out the other side a strong and confident woman. I love that she doesn't just give in to her attraction to Micah and makes him work for it.

It's definitely a slow burn but the build up of the relationship is fantastic.

This is the first book in a duet so it does end on a cliffhanger and it's one that has me on the edge of my seat until I can get my hands on book 2

Once I picked up this book, I couldn’t put it down! This is Persephone’s first enemies to lovers book and she nailed it. Micah and Peyton’s chemistry is off the charts. The banter between them is so witty and intense. I love how Peyton stands up for herself and doesn’t take crap from anyone. Their story had me glued to the pages and I was sad when it was done. I need more and I am so excited for their conclusion!

As enemies to lovers, Peyton has a lot of animosity towards Micah because of all the horrible things he did to her in High School. When she starts her new job at a bar, her worst nightmare comes true as Micah is the manager and he doesn’t fully understand why she doesn’t give in like the other girls.

This does leave on a cliffhanger which is driving me nuts as a big bombshell was dropped!!

I want my own Micah Reed!!!

Peyton and Micah went to the same high school. She was the quiet, loner that was bullied by the popular girls, and he was the hot, popular jock. After Micah says something to Peyton in high school that causes her to snap, she hates his guts!!

Now, Peyton is a bartender in the club that Micah is the manager of. He has no idea why she hates him so much and he wants to figure out how to fix it. You can cut the tension between these characters!!

Peyton gives Micah a trail of breadcrumbs to figure out why she can't stand him, and he wants nothing more to figure it out, so he can make it right with her.

I love the banter between Peyton and Micah so much!! And every girl needs a guy BFF like Reese!!

That cliffhanger!?!?!? I cant wait for their next book!!!!

TITLE: Restless Night
GENRE: New Adult Romance
AUTHOR: Persephone Autumn
TROPE: Enemies to Lovers
TYPE: Series (Insomniac Duet #, Bay Area Series #5)
POV: Multiple POV
MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5

Payton is a former loner, Goth chick who was bullied in High School and finally came into her own. Move forward to the current day, and she is beautiful, feisty, and flirty with customers while she works behind the bar. Only one person seems to rub her the wrong way, and that is one of the managers of the bar she works at Micah Reed, who also happens to be one of her High School bullies.

Micah was a jock and Mr. Popular in his High School days; currently, he is one of the managers of a popular bar and is a player. Women seem to be attracted to Micah with little effort, all accept one, Payton, and he has no idea why she hates him so much. All the animosity only makes Micah more intrigued and attracted to Payton.

Restless Night is my favourite book in the series and is the third duet part of the Bay Area Series overall. It does end on a cliffhanger, but thankfully, part two releases in early May. I am rating Restless Night 4 /5 Stars

Deep emotional characters in this messy like romance. And I love Messy Life Romances. Felt every pang of hurt and deep sorrowful apology escaping from Micah and Peyton's mouths.
Great read, and the ending took my breath away with a very loud gasp.
A bit unexpected: DUET SERIES...RIGHT? I need more NOW!
Looking forward to going back and reading the beginning of the series books 1-4.

Oh my hell…YESS! My new favorite couple from Persephone Autumn! So damn good from beginning to end, and I was screaming for more at that ending! Are you trying to kill me here with that bomb you dropped and ran off with?! Damn Micah!

I love Peyton’s confidence she has now as an adult and she knows her worth and expects it. She’s hated Micah for valid reasons for years, and he has no clue why!! The push and pull between these two, the way they antagonize each other & use other people to make each other jealous makes me love this book even more! I love that wtf emotion and waiting for one of them to snap…possessively!! 😈😈 This book does not hold back!

I recommend this to anyone that loves to watch their characters fight everything to be together, possessive alphas, and badass fmc’s that don’t accept anything but the best!

When I say you need to read this book I mean you HAVE to read this. I received an ARC for this and man, you all are in for such a juicy story. There’s so much tension and I INHALED this story in one night.

Micah has done Peyton wrong in the past and he doesn't even know what for so he constantly receives dagger stares from the woman. But we get to find out why this is and eventually he tries his hardest to make up for what he doesn't even know because he realizes just how much of a constant she is in his head. Trying not to spoil much her but the fact that this ended on such a cliff hanger had me messaging the author about how I need the second half!

So, if you love enemies to lovers, workplace romance, and so much banter you need to get this book hands down..

Peyton and Micah have a past. Peyton will never forget what Micah did. Micah has no clue why Peyton hates him not an inkling of what happened but he knows and feels the hatred. Their constant banter and murmurs have a wonderful sexual undertone. The characters are both strong, independent and have a loss that still holds them captive.

Peyton and Micah have amazing chemistry and you can't help but to wish them together. The spice is there! The chemistry is sexy. I love that the author brought back character favorites from previous books.

I couldn't put the book down. I only put it down when I had to go to work. I picked it back up back as soon as I got home. I'm stoked for book two!

I received this free eARC novel from the author and Wildfire Marketing Solutions. This is my honest review.

This is my first Persephone Autumn novel and I'm already hooked! I loved the enemies/ hatred part of this story, along with Micah's complete confusion. I also liked how Micah genuinely felt about his past actions.

This is a slow burn. Slloooowwww burn. But seeing these two go slow like high school slow is kinda adorable.

Both Peyton and Micah are great characters and I loved getting to know them. I'm very intrigued to see how things go after that ending.

I'm very glad I decided to read this novel and I may have to read a few more by this author!

Wow! Talk about hating a character and loving them at the same time... that is how I feel about Micah...Of course, I am hating him right now at the ending because you have to wait until the next book to find out what happens. Peyton trying to get her emotions in check after being bullied so much as a teenager was heart wrenching to read through. She is one tough cookie and I hope she can hang on and get through what is to come.
