An interesting take on the perhaps always complicated mother-daughter relationships; this book relies heavily on the interior worlds of Christa (the mother) and Billie (the daughter, and herself also mother) as Billie and her two sons spend some time with her parents shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
This unique setting and vibe got transported really well and I need to read some more books set in exactly this time-period in Germany - as someone from the West, the East and its history is still a bit foreign to me.
However, it wasn‘t mainly about the historical significance of that moment but truly about the complex and painful and beautiful ways mothers and daughters correspond to and with each other and Höftmann Ciobotaru managed to create really vulnerable characters that I didn‘t like and yet understood so well. Very honest and very German in a way.

Don‘t expect a whole lot of plot with this one (I would have loved a bit more insight into the historical specialties) - and I do wish that certain scene with Billie‘s husband had been resolved more or at least commented on more in hindsight - but if you‘re also the kind of reader that enjoys the psychological workings of our day to day relationships, this is the book for you!

Auf dieses Buch habe ich mich echt gefreut. Ich finde die DDR ein super interessantes Thema und es klang echt vielversprechend.
Viel Plot gibt es hier nicht, da der Leser die meiste Zeit in den Köpfen von Billie und und Christa verbringt. Die Mutter-Tochter Beziehung steht hier eindeutig im Vordergrund.
Abwechselnd werden die Perspektiven präsentiert und der Leser kann die Gedanken beider Charaktere gut nachvollziehen.
Der Konflikt am Ende, der Höhepunkt der Differenz, stellte sich letzendlich jedoch nur als Traum raus. Diese Auflösung gefiel mir nicht wirklich.

Dennoch würde ich das Buch weiterempfehlen.
