Forever Buckhorn: Gabe / Jordan

Rate this book
The Buckhorn brothers return in two timeless tales from New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Lori Foster

Gabe
Gabe Kasper, the heartthrob of Buckhorn County, Kentucky, can have any woman he wants. But it's prickly, uptight Elizabeth Parks who gets under his skin. She thinks Gabe's some kind of hero and wants an interview for her thesis. He doesn't consider pulling a couple of kids out of the lake heroic, but he'll answer her questions in exchange for kisses...and more.

Jordan
Jordan Somerville thinks he wants a woman who's a paragon of virtue. But then the gentle veterinarian—rescuer of strays—meets Georgia Barnes, single mother and exotic dancer. She's a far cry from Jordan's dream woman—and she's made it clear that he's hardly her dream man, either. So why is he suddenly tempted to break all his own rules?

Forever Buckhorn

This is another combined volume of two stories in this series. In the first two stories we follow Sawyer Hudson and then Morgan Hudson. I loved both do those two stories so much. They were so easy to read and just go along for a romantic ride with.

This volume follows the younger two brothers. First is Gabe Kasper who’s actually the youngest brother and then Jordan Somerville whose the loner brother. I don’t know if I can pick a favorite between these two. Gabe is so laidback and I just liked the relaxed energy he’s got. However Jordan spends his time taking care of all the animals that need him.

Gabe is basically a womanizer but he’s very honest about it. He doesn’t lead any woman on. He’s also something of a local hero after he leaps into the lake and saves a young mother and her two children from a runaway boat. He’s tired of people calling him a hero, though.

Enter Elizabeth Parks. She’s writing her thesis on Heroes and she wants to ask Gabe some questions. These two did not exactly like each other at first. But she’s got a very personal reason for this topic. As they learn more about each other dislike becomes attraction which turns into something much bigger.

Gabe is also realizing he might want to do more with his life. He’s also been incredibly laidback. It’s not that he doesn’t do anything. He can build or fix pretty much anything. Most of the people of Buckhorn have had help them with something at some point. However he finally considers doing something more with his abilities.

There’s there’s Jordan. He’s a veterinarian for Buckhorn. He cares for all the animals. From dogs and cats to horses and cows. Sometimes strays are just sort of taken in by this family of brothers. It’s all Jordan’s fault but no one really minds. He’s very serious and controlled but he doesn’t handle animals or people he cares about being hurt. Every once in awhile that gets him into trouble. Which is exactly how he meets Georgia.

Georgia is a dancer in a really disgusting bar. Jordan actually goes there to try and get the owner to cut off some of the patrons before they overindulge and cause chaos through Buckhorn county. Which is when he sees Georgia dance and then a man gives her trouble. He instantly reacts and ends up causing a bar brawl.

I really liked Georgia a lot. She’s very different from the first three women in this series in certain ways. She’s got a takes no crap from anyone attitude. She’s definitely more of a guarded person than Honey, Misty or Lizzy. I loved seeing her open up to Jordan across this story.

Jordan is not only falling in love but also learning to accept some things about himself. He’s been the loner of his brothers for most of his life. He knows his family loves him but he can’t shake the feeling he’s different from them.

I still don’t know what pulled me to this series exactly. However I’m going to keep reading them I think. I actually have already read the next one as I’m writing this.

Having read the first book, outlining Sawyer and Morgan pairing off, I was anxious to see what was in store for Gabe and Jordan. The first book dealt with Gabe and Elizabeth, a red head with mental issues and obsession with heroes. Heart throb Gabe finds himself with a woman who is not chasing or swooning over him, falls in love with her, admits it but Elizabeth doesn't admit it to him. He gets down over his inability to win her confession but in the end, Gabe is the next brother to marry. The last story, Jordan, was a disappointment. Of all the brothers, he seemed the least likely to hook up with a woman who is an exotic dancer with two children. I have nothing against men getting together with women, and I had nothing against Morgan marrying Misty, who was pregnant with another man's child. I just didn't think it fit Jordan or his lifestyle. I ended up skipping over a lot of the text because the premise of a man as strapping as Jordan hooking up with Georgia just didn't draw me into it. Sorry. Overall, the writing continued to match that of the previous book and, like before, I will continue to follow this author because her style is succinct, interesting and well done.

I loved Sawyer's book and couldn't wait to get Gabe and Jordan's stories. Unfortunately either I was missing pages on my kindle or these two stories should have been novellas.

Basically this is how I feel. Enough said.

Where to start...I loved Gabe right from Sawyer and Morgan's books! As the carefree brother who "doesn't work", Gabe is the quintessential Goodtime Boy. But there is a deeply loving and tender side to him. Not to mention, Gabe, like Sawyer/Morgon/Jordon, is very affectionate and very hands-on. I loved their family connection and I loved that Gabe shared it with Lizzy so freely.

Elizabeth was not as prickly as the book description implies. She actually is a sweet, lost soul that only wants to learn what it is that makes ordinary people do extraordinary things.

Jordon was a great second in Gabe's book...he helped bring out qualities in Lizzy that she didn't know she had and this really helped her believe in her feelings and relationship with Gabe.

Jordon, ahhhh, the heart throb and sexy Vet! He has always been saving animals from harm, even to the point that his cool, sauve exterior slips and shows his true inner He-man. It was this He-man that Georgia met the first time she and Jordon interact.

Georgia has lived a lot in the past eight years. Pregnant at 16, she worked hard to make her bad marriage succeed...but it's hard to have a one sided marriage. Alone and caring for her sick mother, Georgia has limited skills: great looks, killer body, and seriously sexy dance moves. Thus, being a dancer at a bar brings in the money, but makes her feel even worse about herself...then add Jordon's negative attitudes...Yikes!

But slowly, Jordon and his brothers and sisters-in-law win over not just Georgia, but her mom and two kids! I loved these two together...plus, the cover is yummy! Highly recommend to pick up some Buckhorn love this summer!!!

This book is 2 complete books in one. Had I read them separately the rating would have been different. The Gabe book would have been a 2, while the Jordan book would have been a 4.

My big issue with Gabe's book was Gabe. From the first book he has been described as a ladies man, that all the women fall all over him and have done so since he was a teen, and he seemed to revel in the notoriety. When he meets Elizabeth he seems to scoff at her and discount her because she doesn't fall down at his feet. I think that was the challenge for him, he actually had to chase. I felt like while he was wooing her he was very patronizing. One of the best aspects of this book was the way all the brother's razzed Gabe.

Jordan has always been noted as being a little different, so I was anxious to see what happened to him. Georgia was a great match for him. The way that they meet had me laughing. I really liked Georgia and admired her quest to provide for her family. However she was in a situation where she needed help. I loved that part of Jordan's seduction was just helping her and being her friend, along with enlisting all of his family. The scenes with all of the brothers and their new families were some of the best ones, the chaos of it all had me smiling.

I mentioned before that I read this mini-series when they were first released, however I had never read Jordan's story. So I was looking forward to reading it finally.

Once again these are two very steamy stories, but just a little too 'good' for me. These brothers are seriously too good to be true, I need more flaws! Perhaps I am too used to reading Presents that my taste in heroes tender to err on the side of brooding-angry-alpha goodness.

There is something that has bugged me about all four of these stories and that is the fact that hero in each story doesn't realise/work out that he loves the heroine until one of his brothers tells him that he [the hero] loves her. This was almost exactly the same in each story.

But regardless of my negatives I have to be honest and say that I really like these books. There is something very endearing about them, and of course it helps that they are really well written.

Too much story and not enough smut. I like a good storyline for sure, but when I choose to read a book with a half nekkid dude on the front, I expect it to have a decent amount of naughtiness as well. There was an imbalance between plot and hot and steamy scenes.

So here's the deal. I picked this (and like, four or five other Lori Foster paperbacks) up at a used book sale. I saw the author name, I'd heard her recommended, I said "sure why not these are like ten cents each because it's a bag sale."

Which means I did not realize several of them, including this one, were reprints and doublings-up of shorter, older novels. Gabe and Jordan were both originally published in 2000.

And boy, does it show. I would argue that the noun "female" was never a good way to refer to an adult woman, but this was before the incels (and others) had truly corrupted it, so I was basically cringing at the heroes (Gabe more than Jordan) constantly referring to this "female" and that "female." Not the author's fault (not mostly, anyway) but it made this more unpleasant than it perhaps needed to be.

My criticisms of both novels are basically the same. Too short to be well-developed in either plot or character, and to provide a believable build up from meeting to happily ever after. Too focused on making sure we know the heroine is "barely pretty" until the hero realizes "wait actually I love her so she's beautiful." Too weird a mashup of wholesome small-town/brother/family romances tropes, right alongside both men instantly becoming raging horndogs the second they see womanly flesh on display. They both read as half-crazed and get physical with their love interests way earlier in the plot than I was comfortable with (especially Jordan, who kisses Georgia in the back of a sherriff's cruiser the night they met when she clearly doesn't like or trust him yet, and also one or both of them might or might not be about to get arrested. Nothing says romance like criminal charges!)

In the end, I'd give Gabe two stars and Jordan only one, because I did. not. like. the way Georgia's sex work was handled both as a plot point and in Jordan's reaction to it early on. He was a sleazeball who had no problem condescending to her about her dancing ten minutes after he'd spent an entire song drooling over her, so I was definitely not into his towering hypocrisy and did not believe they could ever be a believable couple. Eventually they were a couple at least, but I don't think it was that believable...

Also, based on how bad these are, I'm purging the rest of this author's work from my TBR. Maybe her style has improved or changed with the times and her stuff is better now, but everything I bought is older and likely to be more of the same thing I got here.

I agree with some other reviews that I read, in that it would be easier to rate this book if you could rate the 2 stories individually. For me, as a whole, this book was intriguing. I didn't know it was part of a series and it's typically outside of what I read but I'm happy I decided to branch out and will be looking for the first book.

Gabe's story was a hit for me. In fact, it was my favorite of the two. The banter between Gabe and Elizabeth at first and then the ongoing banter between Gabe and his brothers was entertaining. I love a book with a chase and a happy ending.

Jordan's story was mediocre for me. I thought his choice in female was interesting and I felt like the story lacked because there was no real focus on his occupation. What's better than a hot vet? I did enjoy that there was more brotherly banter though and found it hilarious that they always seemed to interrupt at the "perfect time". The ending left me questioning whether or not Georgia and Jordan are married or just living together (or maybe I missed something). It also seemed to be more focused on setting things up for Casey's story.

Overall, not bad though.

Forever Buckhorn is two books in one. It is a continuation of the Buckhorn Brothers series and it stars Gabe and Jordan.Lori Foster has once again written dynamic characters you cannot help but fall in love with. The brothers are alpha males, with honor, chivalry, and good old fashioned manners. Both stories have a slow burning romance; the characters are given a chance to get to know each other and fall in love naturally. The characters change and grow throughout the book and become better, stronger characters. The camaraderie of the brothers and overall sense of belonging gives you that warm feeling when you see these bachelors fall head over heels in love. I much preferred Jordan’s story over Gabe’s which I have found with many other reviews of this book. Foster definitely upped the spice and dirty talk with these two ;). It was also nice to catch up with the characters from the previous two books to see where life has taken them.

My book title was Forever Buckhorn and featured 2 separate books within 1 book with Gabe and Jordan, the other 2 brothers living in Buckhorn. I laughed at Elizabeth's awkwardness and Gabe's lazy life of lounging around half dressed repairing and helping those who live in their town. While Book 2 featured Jordan, a veterinarian with principles who falls for a single mother with two children and the horrible job of dancer and waitress in a seedy bar. I always enjoy how Lori Foster builds a community and then a feeling of belonging in a family with all her characters. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series about the son of Sawyer, Casey who is a heartthrob with a strong sense of loyalty and principles.

I save my five stars for books that have had a huge impact on me. Forever & Always was the first romance novel I ever read and loved. I particularly loved Gabe and Lizzy's story. I read it close to when it came out years ago and it's my only romance novel with a broken and worn spine from rereads. I was re-reading it last night and remembering just how much I loved Lizzy's character. She was oh so prickly, awkward, and unimpressed by a pretty face. She felt more like the women I knew. It's a great, entertaining little read. And as I begin to write my own romance novels, it's easy to see how much this story has influenced me.

Great read

These stories really stand the test of time. They are as good as the first time I read them. The Buckhorn Brothers are amazing and so are the women they find. If only I could really visit Buckhorn Kentucky and find one for myself it would be a perfect world. I would recommend these stories to any adult reader who enjoys sexy alpha guys and the women who love them.

Fun

This book was fun to read. The children were really cute. Like the previous books, I just love the relationship between the brothers. I love how they always, no matter the situation, have each other's back. Always reDy to defend each other and ready to receive the women that they love.

Fantastic stories!

Have and Elizabeth's story is great! I love how when Gabe fell for Elizabeth all thoughts of other women were gone.
In Jordan and Georgia's story Jordan immediately became a family man and fully endorsed it. It was a match made in heaven!

Two stories here, Gabe and Jordan. These are fast reads, Harlequin romances. I love the thought of Buckhorn, the small town where everyone knows everything.
Good stories, both of them.
