The author describes the murder investigation in the Harbor District by a sergeant of the Los Angeles Port Police.
The story takes places in San Pedro, Wilmington and various other southern cities. On page 3 the victim is supposed to travel to Talum in Mexico to visit Mayan ruins and never gets there. Maybe that is because Talum should be Tulum. The lovely TV producer lives in PV but works in "nearby" San Bernardino. The main character drinks an ale from Scotland that is hard to find but his Pedro liquor store stocks it for him. The store is located on Gaffey Boulevard. The author mentions this interesting ale to add interest to the novel but can not get the frigging street name right.

This book is filled with so many errors it became a joke to read. Throughout the book things are described in detail then the details fall flat on their ass. 22nd Street Landing is a great place to eat and I can see it from my boat. The author describes the stairs up to the bar and the pictures on the walls. This fine and correct. The principals go outside on the upstairs deck to have dinner and watch the sun set in the water. This is nice and romantic with a simple problem. It is impossible to watch the sun set in the ocean from San Pedro unless you are located on the cliffs north of Point Fermin. The sunset view from 22nd Landing sees a sun setting behind the hills west of the Fort and the hills.

The Los Angeles Port Police serve the harbor area while the LAPD and County sheriffs cover other territory. After a near fatal car crash by Uncle Gus the Port Police get there first where they would never go unless there was an alert.

I have read several detective novels that occur around marinas in California. It never fails to amaze me how these authors add great extensive details then contradict the reality of real life. Virtually all the boats in one marina are covered and one boat is at slip 301. Sorry Charlie.
