Abby Klein was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She earned her teaching credentials at Dartmouth College, where she majored in psychology and education. She then went on to earn her master's degree in reading and language development at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Currently she teaches in the same public elementary school she attended as a child in the Los Angeles area. She has been a kindergarten and first-grade teacher there for more than fifteen years and is very involved in the school community, as both a teacher and a parent. Her two young children also attend the school where she teaches. In addition, she is a “teacher-leader” in her district, and over the years, she has presented many staff development workshops both at the district level and at her school site that centered on reading, writing, and literacy. She has been a presenter at national conferences as well.

In her first published series, Ready, Freddy!, Klein brings just the right amount of true-to-life humor and drama. She brings young readers a fresh voice, a great sense of humor, and a unique perspective on the trials and tribulations of first grader Freddy Thresher. Utterly authentic and drawn from real experience in the classroom, Abby Klein knows exactly what first graders are thinking.

She lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband, two children, and three dogs. She thinks there's nothing better than a good book, and she loves reading aloud to children.

Klein, A., & McKinley, J. (2011). Shark Attack!. New York: Scholastic Inc.

The class is taking a field trip to the aquarium and Freddy couldn't be more excited! Sharks are Freddy's favorite animal and he knows a lot of about them. To prepare for the trip, Freddy wears all his shark gear and makes sure to not forget his lucky shark tooth. The aquarium is full of cool animal including jellyfish, sting rays, and of course sharks! Freddy finds out there is a shark quiz that he can take and if he gets all questions right, he wins a prize! But when Freddy realizes he misplaces his lucky shark tooth, he doesn't know if he can finish the quiz without it.

1. If you were going on a class trip to an aquarium, what part would you be most excited about seeing, and why?
2. Freddy has his sharks tooth that he considered his good luck charm. Have you ever had a good lucky charm, and if so, what luck did it bring you?
3. Max is usually not very nice to Freddy and gets in trouble throughout the day. Why do you think Max was so willing to help Freddy to find his shark tooth?
4. What are some facts you remember from the book about any of the animals that were in the aquarium? Did you always know some of the facts, or were some new to you?
5. Jon mentions how important it is to take care of Earth and to protect all if it's living creature. What are some things you can do to help take care of our planet?

The best part about this book is that you can play a little game after you read the book. But I don't like that it has hard words and for junklushin the book is great.
