From Amazon : "In Pakistan a holy relic is stolen--a hair of the prophet Muhammad--and it is James Nirmal Roy's job to solve the mystery, a mystery involving an American poet and an embassy attache's wife"

Maybe I missed something - the American poet and the Iranian embassy attache's wife didn't seem to have anything at all to do with the mystery, but were parallel stories. I rather enjoyed the hard-drinking poet, Tom, and found his story line more interesting than the mystery of the theft. Overall, it was an okay read, with some parts more interesting that others.
