When goth-girl Glory Peterson’s plane crashes she walks to find help. What she finds are people living in teepees like it’s the Old West. Wolf’s Shadow knows Glory is his mate. Glory’s happy to take a roll in the hay with him while she’s waiting for transportation back to civilization, but when she finds out she’s gone fifty years into the future and Shadow is a bossy werewolf who thinks he owns her, her attitude changes fast. Shadow is used to giving orders that are obeyed. Glory hasn’t obeyed an order since kindergarten. When two strong-willed lovers clash, who will win?
I love to write romance stories. I also have a day job with Medicare. I just wish I could quit my day job and write full time! I have so many stories rattling around in my head trying to take over my life that half the time I sound like a moron when I'm chatting with friends.
When I'm not writing I am spinning, knitting or reading. Fiber arts are a form of therapy for me, and while I'm spinning or knitting my characters talk to me. So if you look at a piece of my knitting and find an odd hole here and there, I was probably having an intense, private discussion with a werewolf while I was knitting that particular spot.
everyone (including hero himself) and their grandmother's dog agreed hero raped heroine, just because heroine enjoyed it doesn't mean shit, because HE did it to punish her. Even heroine had to accept the fact the hero wouldn't have spared her if she DIDN'T enjoy it and that would have been a seriously life threatening rape.
Yet she turns around and says it's not rape and was ready to forgive him! I mean you have to admit when hero is fucking baffled as to WHY he'd be spared, and HIS mother and father, BOTH his parents gets disgusted at heroine for forgiving him and then have to intervene and make sure he has some sort of comeuppance so that people understood the severity of hero's act, it has to be extremely clear it is not really kinky sex, but quite the heinous crime? The H's mum, who was EXTREMELY submissive, if had a choice, would have flailed and then skinned the H alive and in front of the whole crowd so they could watch and learn. However, poor woman had to disgustedly watch the fake alpha h, who she has been nourishing herself with all the stews, melting into a puddle in front of her son!
This was some serious dub-con involved, even the H couldn't explain the shit away and was rather stupified by the h's acceptance. I'll just leave it at "let's be happy h is happy", but NO ONE else was!
Unexplained and perhaps unconvincing apocalyptic event -- Check. Survival story line which can be described as Laura Ingalls books for adults -- Check. Time travel as a means to get modern American women to a survivalist post-apocalyptic future -- Check. Native American culture merged with shape shifters - Check. Dominant alpha men who worship women and believe in equal relationships -- Check. A society where full figured women are the ideal -- Check. Okay, what else does a girl want in her steamy paranormal romance based books? Not much -- this one has it all. Fast and fun (ummm, yeah I guess I am not just talking about the read), the series is always satisfying (pun?) but definitely light. Don't take it seriously and it will not be disappointing.
There are currently 3 novels and one novella out in this series. The author has just announced that her fourth book may be published in spring 2013. I can't wait!
Maybe 3-1/2 stars. I am enjoying this post apocalyptic/time travelling series. I think a lot of thought was put into how the world would function after global thermonuclear war and woman killing plague. There were several different groups described with several different reactions to the disaster.
The relationship aspect was not as well developed. Most of the story was from the POV of the heroine. I liked her with her pink hair and toughness. Some of her reactions at first were a little too knee jerk. After you have realized that your world has come to an end and you are stuck in this world, you might think before you blow off the guy who has volunteered to help you adjust. She sort of went overboard on the I'm going to make it on my own and get a job etc. She did settle down and become more rational though. The hero on the other hand was not well developed at all. He was supposed to be very alpha but came across as more of a namby pamby. There was almost nothing from his POV. There relationship did not really develop, change or grow at all. It was just there. In fact they spent almost no time together at all except a few times when they had sex.
So I'm enjoying this series for the post apocalyptic aspect and will keep reading for that.
I read Wolf's Glory as a stand alone. There's some world building, but not that deep or satisfactory. There are also a lot of characters, but again none is well developed.
Shadows is particularly weird: at times "alpha", others groveling. You are told the reason, but I didn't find convincing. :) He seems young, rather than really alpha.
The sex scene which is (or isn't) rape is baffling.
Not to my liking. Paranormal junkies might love it!
Okay so first off, I did not finish this one. But yet i am giving this one more stars then the first book. There is a reason for that, i promise.
This isn't going to be a normal review for me because I didn't finish the book. I got about 52% through, its not that it was bad, it was alright but i felt like there wasn't going to much more happening. Again the whole idea that is introduced is, awesome, i would love to see more of the outside world but really its about a girl finding a boy, and boy forcing...i mean hoping the girl to fall in love with him because they are mates. I love all wolf/shifter books that is why i was so interested in this series in the first place. And after the first one i was a little ehh? do i want to continue? i did because when these two characters were mentioned in the first book i was like, YES.
Here is the thing, This book was better than the first one because it explains how the world became how it is, it also explained the wolf/shifters and how they came to be so suddenly after everything happened. So honestly i thought this should have been the first book in the series, it does a better job explaining all that.
Now here are a few reasons I - ME, BECCA, ME, ME, totally and utterly personally ME - didn't finish this, i like a lot of action and i can see so much potential for more action, and adventure. Unfortunately these girls who are suppose to be Alpha like, are in some aspects but other times they just allow things to happen, i would think they would be more demanding, and would want to go check out the plane crash, because you know there are people injured. You know what i am not going to get into this again. But here is the think, this wasn't for me. Its more about these two um having a relationship.... maybe relationship isnt quite the right term... i don't know.
So for me it wasn't quite cuttin' it because in this type of world i would be expecting more adventure, action, and yeah.
First paragraph: Maybe they were doomed to walk the prairie forever, never finding help. Glory shook her head fiercely. No, that was tiredness and hunger speaking. There had to be people somewhere. This rotted old railroad track would lead them to civilization eventually. Glory threw a desperate look around and saw nothing but tall dry grass and blue sky as far as her eyes could see—just empty prairie as bare as it must have been when the pioneers first settled the West. If she and Jane didn't find help, people would die. Maybe people had already died.
I should have known better. I didn't necessarily enjoy the first book in the series, and this second one fared no better. I selected this book for a reading challenge, and so, forced myself to finish it, in the same way a kid forced to choke down lima beans with no butter or salt. Yuck.
World building is okay: 50 years in the future, post nuclear meltdown, Midwestern nowhere plain. People have resorted to tribal life and small town Midwest. Some Native Americans have found their 'inner wolves' and can now transform into wolf, but they're not werewolves, nope. Women are scarce commodities - almost sacred in some communities, sex slaves in others. Yup.
Into this post-apocalyptic mess wanders Glory, a Goth-y wanna be marine biologist who cleaned fish tanks before the bomb. Now she's the most-wanted mate list of the son of the local Indian-wolf tribe, but she's too interested in her purple vinyl purse and her creature comforts to think about survival. Yup, a repeat of the first story, except here, Glory enjoys verbally abusing Wolf and calls it sarcasm. I wasn't impressed with Glory or her mental hang ups.
2.75 stars. I was a bit disappointed with how long it took the heroine to wise up to her situation and accept a good thing happening to her. This book, like the first, also had some cheesy dialog that made me cringe a time or two.
This was a good story. I liked Shadow and the story in general but Glory was not my favorite heroine by a long shot.
Glory is a goth and a BBW that gets caught in a plane crash that propels her and the rest of the passengers (the ones that survive) 50 years in to the future. Glory had been on the plane for a job interview and is happy she lived through the crash but when she seeks out help and discovers the world in now 50 years in to the future and everything has changed drastically...well Glory doesn't take that very well.
Shadow is part of the wolf clan and lives on the plains with his people. He's a wolf shifter and the beta for his clan, destined to be the alpha after his father steps down. He's been waiting a long time for his mate and when he finds Glory and another woman walking out on the empty plains he's thrilled to discover that she's his mate but winning her isn't as easy as he'd hoped.
When Shadow and Glory meet, Shadow tells her the truth about himself but doesn't tell her she's been propelled in to the future and she tries making assumptions about him...trying to figure he and the others are out in the middle of no where for a movie or something. She's quite willing to have sex with Shadow but balks when it becomes apparent that he's talking about more than just one night together. Glory is told about her situation (being in the future) but Glory is in heavy denial at first and keeps thinking she can call to get her interview rescheduled and get back to her life. When she's finally convinced that she's in the future and her situation has changed dramatically, she still isn't kind to Shadow and pushes him away and to be honest she was being a real bitch about it. Glory kind of took the story down for me at times because I had trouble with her constant attitude and bitchiness. In the mean time, the other survivors from the plane (who amazingly are all females...um, really!?!?) arrive at the camp and Glory is busy helping to tend the wounded and such and Shadow is told to give her some time and let her get settled in to her new situation.
After a bit of time with the clan, Glory does eventually calm a bit towards Shadow and eventually they go to bed with each other, consummating their relationship. Since Shadow was a virgin, this part was a little on the humorous side as Glory had to explain what to do and such. There's plenty of drama as the story progresses because even though Glory and Shadow are together she hasn't really let up on him. The thing is that Glory is supposed to be an "alpha" female and I think her attitude was supposed to indicate how she wouldn't be owned or anything but many times it seemed like she was just being stubborn and belligerent for no reason. I mean Carla from book #1 was also supposed to be an alpha female but she didn't act like Glory... Because of some of the drama, Glory and Shadow are separated for the winter and Glory realizes just how much she's come to love Shadow. When they come together again she admits her feelings and they start their HEA.
Overall I enjoyed the story. Shadow was a good hero...he's alpha and tends to be bossy but overall he was a good guy who just wanted his woman and would do anything to please her. Glory did settle a bit as the book progressed but I have to admit her attitude made it hard for me to get invested her. Regardless of Glory bringing this book down a bit for me, I still intend to read book #3 in the series. :D
* note - I listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator did an alright job but I wasn't thrilled with Glory's voice...a little too butch.
While I quite enjoyed the first book, Wolf's Glory didn't really work out too well. It started off fine. Glory and Jane have headed out to find help for the survivors of their plane crash. Eventually they stumble upon some men who take them back to their village and offer assistance. It's there where Glory meets Wolf's Shadow who immediately claims her as his. Glory is put off by that but she is very attracted to him. Then she learns that she's not where or when she thinks she is, and the sexy man claiming her as his mate is actually a wolf!
Wolf's Glory was going pretty good until one scene ruined it all. Obviously, Glory isn't receptive to the whole mate claim thing, but she does like Wolf's Shadow and they get up to some sexy times. But then, they have an argument and he rapes her but doesn't rape her. I was pretty confused and uncomfortable with that scene. Glory was encouraging his actions, so she doesn't think it was rape. But as soon as he was finished, Wolf's Shadow turned himself over to the Council for rape. He wasn't aware that she wanted it and was enjoying it, because all he was thinking about was using sex to control her. And that is absolutely not okay! Plus, if he was so convinced that he was raping her, why didn't he just stop?! That's pretty sick.
Aside from that one scene, Wolf's Glory isn't awful. It's super cheesy, and there's not much going on outside of the romance, but that's okay. What's not okay is a rape scene to act as the switching point from overbearing Alpha male to love-sick puppy. I really could have done without that.
I was pleasantly surprised by Wolf's Glory, not for any reason other than the fact that I don't usually pick up wolf shifters, and don't gravitate to apocalyptic stories. And despite the fact I hadn't yet read book 1 in this series, it didn't hamper my enjoyment of book 2. The world Ms. Barone has created is very easy to dive into and I wasn't lost at all. I thought the premise of the Times Before was very interesting, and enjoyed reading about how society had changed. Glory is a fun heroine, full of spunk with her goth hair, curvy figure and outspoken attitude. Shadow is a delicious wolf shifter hero, and I know I'll be dreaming of his long, black hair for some time to come. The relationship developed in such a way that you want to root for the budding love, even before the characters realize they are falling in love. I love the wolf men who, with one sniff, became so attached to their human heroines. I hope Quill and Sky get their HEA's and will definitely check in on this series to see how it progresses.
This is a great series. Post apocalyptic mid west America.
Glory, minding her own business, is on a plane on her way to San Fran for a job interview in marine biology; when suddenly the plane falls out of the sky.
On the ground, a hunting party, comes across 2 women walking, looking for help. One of them is Glory, and Wolf's Shadow recognises the scent of his mate. He organises the rescue of the other plane victims and escorts Glory to the Wolf Clan camp.
In a heart beat it has gone from 2014 to 2064 and who is the Grandmother of the Wolf Clan but Glory's best friend, Jill.
Lots of misunderstandings, hawt wolf action and a HEA. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
I didn't find this one to be as good as the one before it or the one after it. Partly because I found Glory kinda annoying half the time. But it was still enjoyable and you feel the arc in their relationship from first meeting to getting to know each other to love. Although it was annoying how Glory would blow hot and cold with Shadow, I didn't feel like she was ever actually a b-with-an-itch. She was fair minded and just getting her feet after such a traumatic change in her life. The ending was sweet.
This book is about a plane crash that had people from the year 2014 to 50 years to the future. When the plane was down the people that was not hurt helped the people that was. After they got they taken care of the co pilot asked for some people to go look for help. She asked four sets of two pairs of women to the four corners of the world. Glory Peterson and Jane had gone another way and found people on horse back and looked like they was out of a old wild west movie. Shadow the leader of the group. The group took the women back the teepee's and the others. Glory was told that she was Shadow's mate but she does not know that she is not his mate and she will fight him about the mate thing. Shadow is a wolf and his wolf chose her as his mate. I will be reading more books like this and from this author.
This is Shadow and Glory's story . Before I get into the review I gotta say I love the way Shadow really greeted Glory for the first time !! And her response ?? LOL !! Ok now back to the story . Glory was in the plane that crashed and from there her world was turned upside down !! She has to endure a trek hunting for anyone to report the plane crash to and what does she run into instead ? You gotta read the book to find out !! I loved the way she is so sassy and has poor Shadow chasing his own shadow at times trying to understand what she means lol . Well written and recommend to all .
A much better book for me to reach a 3.5 star rating.
It took some time to Glory to come to terms with her situation and new life so that grated on my nerves. I finally got more details about the plane crash and survivors and I am again disappointed that nobody thought about going back to the crash site and try and salvage clothes and whatever might be useful. The stubbornness that Glory showed grated a bit and I was happy when it ended because it was overdone. I liked Wolf's Shadow, clearly since it appears the male heroes in these series would do anything for their mate and that is cute.
I am looking forward to reading more from the series.
This second book in the wolf series was a little bit better. I liked the fact that Glory had to figure out if she loved Shadow or not. Once that was decided everything came into place. All the other characters on the side were interesting into their own right. The grandmother was funny but to end up older than your best friend had to be very difficult on her. Then there’s Rose who is too young to know what she wants but does know that she likes Sky. Of course Marissa was the surprise with finding her son all grown up and trying to figure out a relationship in the process. I just hope that Glory is around when her best friend does decide to meet her maker.
I really enjoyed this book. It was much better. The writing and storyline flowed smoothly and the plot made much more sense. I do still wish I knew more about the backstory. There were references to four women from the Time Before and I searched for another series, even by another author, but only found one by Maddy Barone that says it's 75 years sister the war making it 25 yes after this series.
I will continue with the series. I do recommend this book for any adult. There is a great deal of content not meant for teenagers.
3 1/2 Platypires for Wolf's Glory by Maddy Barone.
This is the second book in the After the Crash series and while I enjoyed the first book , Wolf's Glory didn't hold up. I still liked it but I had a couple of issues. I felt Shadow's character development lacked appeal. I hoped to actually know more of his personality. Maybe a little more banter between Shadow and Glory. Overall, I did like the story and plan on reading the next book in series.
I normally don't write reviews especially negative ones but damn. I didn't like the h at all... she was just so awful to everyone, was supposed to be in her late 20s but talked and acted like she was 16. The H was supposed to be a strong great alpha but acted like a 13 year-old. It just didn't make sense. I don't know if I will read anymore from this series if this is how they are going to be.
I liked the story and thought that it was a really good length. Maddy Barone was able to build the world a little more and we were able to get a lot of background information about the Clan. My only issue with it was that I started to get bored by the end. I'm pretty sure that was my fault though because I read the description of the 3rd book and can't wait to start reading it.
This took me a little longer than the first book, but that's because the characters were so different. That's a good thing by the way. I enjoyed Glory's stubbornness and how she gave in only when it suited her.
I really enjoyed this story. I liked that Glory was not some skinny girl instead sure is like your average woman with some curves. I love fated mates stories. This series should be read in order.
This is the 2nd book of the series and I enjoyed it more with the humour and way it was written. But we need more details before we go into the next paired couple as it leaves us uhh hanging a bit with a few loose ends
