गिरीश कुबेर यांची 'हा तेल नावाचा इतिहास आहे' आणि 'एका तेलियाने' हि दोन्ही पुस्तके तेल या ‘ज्वलंत’ विषयावर आहेत. पहिल्या पुस्तकात तेलाचा संपूर्ण इतिहास आहे तर दुसरे पुस्तक शेख अहमद झाकी यामानी या तेलीयाला केंद्रस्थानी ठेऊन लिहिण्यात आले आहे.
सौदी अरेबिया नामक वाळवंटात जगातले सर्वात मोठे तेलसाठे सापडतात आणि कधीहि न आटणार्या संपत्तीचे दरवाजे उघडे होतात. या सर्व खजिन्यावर झाकी यामानी सौदीचे राजे फैझल यांच्या पाठिंब्याने नियंत्रण ठेवतात. तेलदराचे राजकारण, अमेरिकेची दादागिरी, त्याला यामानींनी शांतपणे दिलेले प्रत्युत्तर, लिबिया सारख्या उपद्रवी देशासकट सर्व तेल उत्पादक देशांना एकत्र आणण्याची धडपड, ओपेक ची स्थापना, कार्लोस द जॅकल या दहशतवाद्याकडून यामानींचे अपहरण या सारख्या अनेक सुरम्य आणि सुरस कहाण्या यात आहेत.
या पुस्तकातून तेलाचा इतिहास जसा कळतो तसेच राजे फैझल आणि झाकी यामानी या दोघांचे वैयक्तिक गुणही डोळ्यासमोर उभे राहतात. घटनांचा आणि व्यक्तींचा इतिहास समजून घेण्याचा हा नक्कीच सुंदर मार्ग आहे.

आपले पुस्तक"एका तेलीयाने "वाचुन संपविले. येवढी प्रचंड माहिती तीही परक्या देशाची ,अनेक प्रसंग तेथील
सामाजिक ,राजकीय ,भौगोलिक ,परिस्तिथी ,सत्तांतरे ,आंतरराष्ट्रीय करार ,ह्या सर्वांचा तेलउत्पादक देशांवर होणारा
परिणाम ह्या सर्वांचा जगावर होणारा परिणाम ,ह्याचा केवढा मोठा आभ्यास आपण केला आहे ह्याची कल्पना आपला
हा ग्रंथ वाचून येते . खरतर आपले हे पुस्तक या अगोदर का वाचले नाही असा प्रश्न मला पडला आहे हे पुस्तक
भारतातल्या सर्व विद्यापिठात अभ्यासक्रमात , अर्थशास्त्र ,जगाचेअर्थशास्त्र ,म्हणून ठेवण्यास पाहिजे . आपण कष्टाने साठविलेली
हि "कुबेराची धन " खरोखरच अत्यंत मौल्यवान असून ती आपण मांडलीही अत्यंत उत्कृष्ट पद्धतीने . मला आठवते ज्यावेळी
जगात "आईलक्राईसेंस "चालू होते त्यावेळी श्री चंद्रशेखर पंत प्रधान असतांना त्यांच्या '' तेलसम्राटासी "असलेल्या व्यैयक्तिक मैत्रीतून तेलाचे जहाज भारता साठी खास आयात करण्यात आले होते आपण हे पुस्तक ५/६ वर्षा पूर्वी लिहिले आहे ,त्यानंतरचा ह्या इतिहासात अनेक बदल नक्कीच घडले असतील ,तो बदल हि वाचावयास आवडेल

Awesome book if you want to understand Oil Politics. Takes you from 1930 to twenty first century. It puts lot of efforts so that readers understand US, Russia and Middle East love-hate triangle. Girish Kuber Sir, Hats off to you!

गिरीश कुबेर यांचं 'हा तेल नावाचा इतिहास आहे!' या पुस्तकातून संपूर्ण तेल क्षेत्राच्या उगमापासून ते आंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यापारापर्यंतचा प्रवास समजतो. साहजिकच तेल हे आंतरराष्ट्रीय राजकारणातलं प्रमुख अस्त्र बनून जात.

'Eka Teliyane' revolves around OPEC, Saudi peninsula kingdoms', USA and the former Saudi oil minister Mr. Yamani.
The book is well researched and well narrated. It starts with oil's history, from Venezuela, Iran, establishment of Saudi kingdom, exploitation by USA oil companies of oil producing countries, their gradual realisation, formation of OPEC.
The book mainly revolves around oil shocks in 1970s, the relation between israel- arab wars and the oil crisis and role of Yamani in all this.
I liked the book for its keen insights into the working of american government's foreign policies, their psyche, and their attitude towards west asia (middle east for western people). The remarks are true and on point.
However the book doesnt take same critical view with regards to Yamani. And the book, hence comes off as a fan boys love letter to his idol, i.e. Yamani.

शीतयुद्धाच्या काळात अमेरिका या बलाढ्य महासत्तेला आव्हान देणारं दूरदूरपर्यंत कोणीच नव्हतं. त्यामानाने मागास असलेल्या धर्मभोळ्या अरबांना आपल्याजवळ असलेल्या अस्त्राची कल्पना नव्हती. अशा वातावरणात शेख यामानी यांनी कशी पाश्चिमात्य जगाला त्यांच्याच भाषेत धुळ चारली याची चित्तवेधक कहाणी म्हणजे ‘एका तेलियाने’! भारतीय वाचकांचे तेल विषयाबाबत असलेले अज्ञान दूर करण्यासाठी लिहिल्या गेलेले हे पुस्तक वाचणे म्हणजे एक मोठी भर टाकणारा अनुभव आहे.

गिरीश कुबेर यांच्या बद्दल काय बोलायचं ...त्यांची लिखाण शैली पुढचं पान पलटवयला भाग पडते.....आणि तेलाचा आणि अरब देश आणि तिथल्या राजांचा रंजक असा इतिहास अगदी निरपेक्ष पद्धतीने मांडला आहे..

It's one of the biographies I have ever liked.
It's written exceptionally focusing on the Saudi kingdom, its kings, and their well-to-do-off Oil ministers.
The author has cited his views on the then American politics, oil rates, OPEC, OAPEC and many other things.
Reading about Dr. Zaki Yamani is just a great thing.
His life, his experiences, his tenure as oil minister and a game changer with his king Faizal.
The book is a must read for history, politics lover.
