Complete, easy-to-follow, well-organized. The two Prima Guides credited to Elizabeth Hollinger and James Ratkos, ("Pokemon Master Pokedex" and the "Pokemon Gold & Silver" Strategy Guide), are in a separate class from the other Prima Guides, which are visually eye-catching, but less complete and harder to follow. (I have not yet seen Elizabeth Hollinger's "Crystal" Strategy Guide.) **PARENTS**: The Prima Guides are EXCELLENT learning tools, teaching children how to use reference materials independently.
This guide is super informative and easy to use for all ages. It is specifically for Gameboy Gold & Silver games but also includes information for Red, Blue and Yellow (RBY). It starts out explaining icons used in the guide, Pokémon you can only obtain through events, trading, the bug catching contest, and bought in the Game Corner. Lists the Pokémon that only appear in Gold, Silver and ones that have to be traded from RBY. Explains how and where to catch Pokémon, evolutions, a whole section on breeding. The Pokédex section begins with the original 151 and then goes into the remaining 100. The Pokédex entry lists their stats, moves they learn at each level, TM/HM list, how to catch, evolution chart and the retro Pokédex (moves and TM/HM list for RBY) as well as how to catch in RBY (for the first 151). The next section is Pokémon A-Z so you can quickly look them up by name, see location, and time of day to catch in Hold & Silver as well as the page # for their Pokédex entry. The remaining sections cover items (apricorns, berries, power ups, hold items, recovery and other items), moves (including type, attack, accuracy, power point, and description), TM/HMs and where to obtain them. The final section is specifically for the Pokémon Pikachu 2 GS (pocket Pikachu) which can provide you with additional gifts. All in all, the guide is very thorough, informative and a great learning resource for kids.
