This is the second of three short books that Marcus Barth wrote that looks seriously at the relationship between Christianity and modern day Israel - and not just as a political state. Having enjoyed the first book, I was keen to get into the second - and I have not been disappointed.
This book contains two topics. First, the discussion of Jesus the Jew - and I think given the 40 years that have passed since the publishing of this book, this is not as controversial an issue as perhaps it was then. So whilst I enjoyed it, I didn’t really encounter much that was new... The second topic however covered much that I was unaware of, as the Author examines the situation between Palestinians and Israelis. As noted, this is 40 years ago, but sadly much of what is covered appears to still be relevant. I would enjoy hearing from someone with a similar approach who could cover this topic today and include the intervening 40 years...
The conclusion of the 2nd topic nicely brings us back to the first topic - and examines how the role of Christians in going forward.
Whilst brief, well worthwhile! Now on to the 3rd book :)
This situation between Israel and Palestine has changed very little since this book was published in 1978. It reminds us to not forget the fate of the Palestinians.
