Buttersby, a snobbish, self-centered alpaca is sent into the jungles of Peru with a to find the legendary cave of the alpaca ancestors, aided by a prophetic mouse, ancient Vicunas, and the trusty male alpaca, Meander.
I would say this is the alpaca version of Harry Potter... if there is one. The characters made you want to read more, the setting was interesting. I think that older elementary school age kids would really like this book (it doesn't have many pictures besides chapter headings) so if your child needs pictures to draw them along (as my son does) I'd put this on hold for a bit.
I'm not sure who this book was written for, perhaps the author wrote it for himself, but it was a really fun read, especially sharing it with my wife. Written from the perspective of an alpaca, it takes the reader into their mind (hilarious) and on a grand adventure. We laughed quite a bit all the way through. Definitely recommended and I hope the author is able to do some more in the future.
