Read Me 2 : A Poem for Every Day of the Year

Rate this book
Read Me 2 is an intriguing collection of poetry from a fine cross-section of poets ranging from Allan Ahlberg to John Betjeman, Spike Milligan to William Shakespeare, Kit Wright to William Wordsworth, and Roald Dahl to Emily Dickinson.

From the comfortingly familiar:

On either side the river lie Long fields of barley and of rye, That clothe the wold and meet the sky; And through the field the road runs by To many-towered Camelot ....? --(Alfred Lord Tennyson)
to contemporary wit:
Close cropped hair feels good. It should. It gives you street cred - And, as I've always said, It feels like having eyebrows All over your head? --( Linda Marshall)
there is truly something for everyone, and with a different poem for every day of the year this excellent selection, which spans the whole range of emotions and seasons, cleverly intermingling the classics with modernity, is a gem of a book that children and adults alike will return to time and time again.

The perfect gift for anyone with a love of verse, Read Me 2 is a must have for any self-respecting poetry lover and will introduce those who have previously shied away to the amazing rhythm and magic of words. (Age 9 and over) --Susan Harrison

I was gifted this poetry book in Year 6 and it contains some very poignant poems - In Flanders Field, Daffodils - some very useful for important days like Remembrance Day. Ideally you would read a poem aloud a day to the children, and I feel this would be a great way to end a day, to be still and reflect on words - whether solemn or funny. It's a great way to normalise poetry and introduce culture.

I don't think I ever appreciated this anthology's value as a child. Re-reading it I realise it is packed with classic to modern poetry, there is something for all children. Gaby Morgan picked a range of poetry, to expand children's understanding and love for the genre. The book has a poem for each day of the year, with poems assigned to certain months. A great resource to use with children in the classroom.

I have two of these books (Not The Same Copy) so it is two poems a night. Marvellous. Helps a good night's sleep. Recommended.
