I was given this book as a gift and it definitely has strong "gift book" vibes. I am going to appreciate it for the sentiment from the gift giver, who had not read the book, but beyond that I found very little to enjoy here. It's full of empty platitudes and repeats itself to the point of exhaustion. It reads like a person who is just discovering these concepts about love and thinks they are terribly wise and must be shared but this is not new information, and it's not even told in a compelling way, no poetic language, no depth of thought exploring its truths (some that contradict each other throughout the book which makes them feel even more meaningless). Just very surface level stuff, very unoriginal. I don't like to be the person to hate on a book but I have to be honest, this was really bad.

This book was a gift from my sister. I know this book can help many people who are struggling with their self worth, a bad relationship, and the strength to move on.

i'll start by saying there were absolutely parts of this book that resonated, especially towards the beginning. i really wanted to like it, and i did have high hopes for the first 50 pages or so. even when its flaws became glaring, i really wanted it to redeem itself by the end.

however, the more i read, the more frustrated i became. this book is essentially 'you can't love someone until you love yourself' wrapped up in different contradictory pinterest-quote packages, over and over again for hundreds of pages.

the 'narrator' of sorts is portrayed as a wise, all-knowing, older-sister-like figure, but realistically, they come off condescending at best — and present dangerous sentiments as objective fact at worst. without any nuance at all, they set the bar for so called 'true love' incredibly high, suggests that you shouldn't rely on others or ask for your needs to be met, and repeatedly condemns 'temporary' relationships, non-monogamy, and casual sex. it makes a lot of assumptions about the reader (including that they are female) and alienates anyone who doesn't experience love in the way society considers 'normal'

maybe my expectations were simply too high, but i would have thought a book titled 'all the love we carry', one that declares 'love is everywhere', would have a less normative view on the topic.

I enjoyed this book a lot! It was a little redundant but I resonated with most of the words. This book is inspiring and moving and it encourages you to romanticize falling in love with yourself first and foremost.

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions are my own and this did not affect my review in any way.

“One of the most painful roads out there is the need for a certain love to be set free because some souls were destined to collide but are not destined to be”

When I received a copy of this collection I knew I had to read it right away. I was in the mood to read a poetry collection that would fill my heart up and make me reflect on love and what is means. All the Love You Carry did exactly that, this collection is a book about love in all its forms, whether its love towards others or towards ourselves and I ended up really enjoying this book.

All the Love You Carry is a reminder of the interconnectedness of everything in our universe through the wonder that is love. This book recognizes that love may just be the most powerful force our existence can ever experience and the most profound work of art we can ever create for others and ourselves.

What I liked most about this book was the importance the author puts on self-love, Charis Ed argues that in other for us to truly love someone else and be happy we first need to find love within ourselves and I thought that was beautiful. This book is dived in three parts and each sections deals with a different type of love, I personally enjoyed the most the second part but all three sections are amazing in their own way.

The writing style is simple yet beautiful, this is not some poetry collection where you have to guess or really dive deep into what the author is meaning. Charis Ed goes straight to the point she is trying to make and I really appreciated that because instead of wasting time trying to decipher the meaning I was able to use my reading time reflecting on what the author was very clearly stating. For me, this is the type of poetry that works best and that is why I ended up really connecting with what the author was saying.

My only minor complaint about this collection was how repetitive it was, there are approximately 300 poems in this collection which were wonderful, however most of the poems said or talked about the exact same thing and although each poems is unique it did end up being a little too repetitive for my taste. However I am able to look past this because the most of the poems ended up hitting way too hard for me.

Overall, All the Love You Carry is a deep exploration of love and all its forms, this collection is for everyone and I believe each reader is going to be able to get something from reading this. I adore that the author is in the medical field and I find it very inspiring that she branched out of her profession and followed her dream of writing because this way very inspiring to read. I will for sure keep an eye out to anything else published by this author.

First of all I want to say that physically the book looks nice. Clean white cover and I liked the touch of copper foiling for the authors name on the front. Outwardly though there isn’t much indication of what this book is about. Nothing to explain what is inside.

What you do find inside is a collection of writing or musings about love. And if I’m perfectly honest, this book isn’t for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sentimental, I have so much love for everyone and everything. But unfortunately not for this book.

To me this felt like someone had sat down and just written about anything that came out of their head that related to love. Whilst some parts were nice, I felt like it was nothing I hadn’t seen or heard before in some form or another whether it was taken from an ‘inspirational quote’ site or from a greetings card. Some of it I felt was contradictory, some of it didn’t make any real sense at all. And a lot of it was the same message repeated over and over in different forms. This book could realistically be about twenty pages long and still put across its message.

I didn’t see any point in reading it all, and ended up skimming most of it. A nice idea but ultimately I found it a little pointless for the most part. Also I felt there was a lack of grounding for most of the messages. I ended up wondering who was meant to have written all this, and what experience they have of love to be able to tell everyone else what it is and isn’t.

I won this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway.

Loved the sentiment of the pieces in this book. Sometimes a specific line would hit me like a punch in the gut. However, towards the second half of the book, I found myself just skimming most of the works. It gets pretty redundant and much too long. I feel that the length could have been cut in half with the same effect.
