Hyperventilation - taking in more air than needed - is habitual for some people. Dinah Bradley outlines remedies that incorporate breathing exercises, posture adjustments, and stress reduction. This new edition includes a workbook for readers to chart their progress.
This book is amazing, I can't believe this information isn't more well known or mentioned when talking about anxiety and the resulting chest tightness since it was published in 2001. In all the times I talked to professionals, read books or watched videos about anxiety, panic attacks and chest tightness, it was never mentioned that I needed to fix my breathing due to chronic hyperventilation. This book also mentions why you feel the need to gasp for air (changed carbon dioxide level). Understanding what is happening and retraining my breathing has shown results in only a few days. It will take awhile yet I think to really get to a really normal state, but this book has given me hope that I haven't had in a year. It's very clearly written and gets straight to the point as well.
