“Provides the essentials for home building and remodeling from start to finish.”— Publishers Weekly . “Walks readers through the entire construction process...with photos and drawings; a gallery of 25 dream homes highlights a number of design possibilities and floor plans....[It provides] the information needed to make intelligent decisions and get the most out of a budget. Recommended.”— Library Journal .
A few tidbits here and there that were useful, but mostly either a) was way too outdated to be of use (maybe there's an updated version - definitely make sure to get that) or b) assumes you have a deeper understanding of topics than someone picking up a how-to book should be expected to.
Bottom line: there are undoubtedly other books that would be more helpful.
Even for a publication date of '03, the photos felt really dated. Informative, if not as in-depth as I might have liked about construction basics. Possibly too much space in this book was devoted to showcasing homes which take up too much space: only somewhat relevant to current interests. I see the author has more specific in-depth construction books and will seek them out.
