Excerpt -
"We ran to where they were, in middle of The Patch. I fell to my knees next to Adra’s head as I had in my dream. Seth stood next to Louis. Louis looked as if in awe. Something inside of me changed when I looked up and saw this look on his face. It might have been guilt and depression, even shock, as the doctors say but I think it was the utter hatred I felt that started with that look and completed when she died. I don’t know why I felt such hate for Louis at that moment because it was our plan; it was our deed, all of us. I probably will never know.
She was gasping for air. Finally, she caught a breath and whispered something to me. Seth screamed at Louis, “Give me the knife. She’s not dead.” I said something about suffocation but I am not sure what exactly. I was too busy thinking about what she said. "
