What a journey! And one that has continued beyond the scope of this history for nearly twenty image saturated years.

I thoroughly enjoyed this complete and detailed account of gay photography, seeming at once scholarly and a passion project. The images and narrative are engaging, proving there is both a long history and fine art in homosexual imagery. To those that claim homosexuality is new, this provides clear evidence to the contrary. Even while many would like nothing more than reserve the veil behind which so many have remained hidden from public view, a steady stream of passionate and courageous humans have fought for the right of free and public love without prejudice or persecution. The evidence is contained herein—and it is both beautiful and inspiring.

The history, names, and artistic references alone are worth the cover price. The numerous plates make this a book I will return to again and again.
