This is your average, enjoyable, make-me-feel-at-home Hunkeler crime novel. Peter Hunkeler is with Basle CDI and just a few years from retirement. The cornerstones of his existence (and the factors which make you feel at home in his adventures) are his partner Hedwig (does she ever do any work?), his old house in Alsace (who looks after it? how does he afford it?), his wish to be retired (well, of course not really), as well as his sudden bursts of anger (expressed only in that he suddenly takes to screaming at people).
This one deals with the murder of Dr Christa Erni – apparently Hunkeler's own GP, a fact which is mentioned, but has no significance.
The story will probably pass, but the mood (hot, hot summer in Basle), melancholy approach towards the murderer, may well stay. This won't be the last Hunkeler you read.

Pacato, ben costruito, personaggi credibili, Questo autore svizzero mi ha piacevolmente sorpreso.
