A Hundred Days Till Tomorrow: A Novel

Rate this book
Her past is restless. Her future is vulnerable. The longest summer of her life has begun.

Employed by her town’s historical society, Miranda Blair preserves brick-and-mortar landmarks from yesterday but has spent two decades avoiding her past.

Miranda is coaxed from her childhood home when she’s named the sole heir to her estranged grandmother’s estate. Gertrude Blair has outlined a hundred-day stay at her New England cottage as a requirement for the inheritance. Begrudgingly, Miranda accepts this unorthodox final request from the woman who never deserved the title “grandma.”

In idyllic Cobblers Hill, shingled homes boast charming front porches and roses entwine white picket fences. But Gertrude’s abandoned property needs a makeover as desperately as Miranda does. And while remnants from Miranda’s history dwell within the dark paneled cottage walls, no strings attached prevails as her motto—until, that is, she meets the emerald-eyed guy next door.

A grandmother she has never known names Miranda as sole heir to her estate, but a condition of the will is that she must spend 100 days at Gertrude’s New England cottage on Primrose Lane in Cobblers Hill. It sounds like a sweet deal to me, but Miranda intends to clear out the old woman’s belongings, make a few repairs, sell the house, and get on with her life. The narrative begins as Miranda meets the townspeople, wonderful characters who are interesting, engaging, and clearly developed. Did I mention that there’s a handsome guy? Yes, this is a romance, but the focus is more on a young woman’s metamorphosis. And I was delighted to see a hidden theme of the restorative power of art.

When fate steps in, the renovation begins in Miranda’s life. What a tender story of self-discovery, of finding the right path, of new beginnings. As Miranda digs through her grandmother’s past, she discovers keys to her own happiness. It’s a fast read, but don’t miss the hidden truths in this debut novel. There is no hopeless situation, only those that need more time to change. And for anyone who may have settled for Plan B, there’s still time to step back and find the road not taken.

Miranda lives a very understated life - she works at the town historical museum and lives with her mother. Her mother and paternal grandmother had gotten in a fight years before so even she wasn't part of Miranda's life. In fact, she's spent her whole life running from and ignoring her past. A call from her grandmother's lawyer is the beginning of major changes in her life. She's been named as the heir to her grandmother's estate. But there's a catch -- she has to spend 100 days in her grandmother's cottage in a small town in New England. Once she has lived there for the required time, the entire estate will be hers to do what she wants to with it. She reluctantly decides to take the challenge that her estranged grandmother has left and plans to sell the cottage and move back home at the end of the 100 days. When she arrives at the cottage, she finds it in a need to a total makeover before it could even be sold. She decides to do the work herself so that it will be saleable. She soon meets her elderly neighbor Adelaide and her grandson Jake. She becomes close friends with Adelaide and through her learns things about her grandmother that she never knew. As she begins to spend time with Jake, the sparks begin to fly between them. Will Miranda end up making over not only her grandmother's cottage but also changing her own life?

This book was a sweet well written book with great characters. Miranda was so down on life that it was easy to cheer for her to find happiness and love.

Sometimes death can bring life.

When Miranda inherits her grandmother’s estate – a woman she did not know thanks to a family feud from before she was born – she has to go live in the house for 100 days before she can claim anything.

A conceit I have experienced before but one that works and in this book it works very well. Miranda’s intentions are to just sell the house and get on with her life but the house needs work. She decides to do it herself because of course she can!

But turns out she needs help after all and what better help than her new neighbor Adelaide’s grandson, Jake? It’s Adelaide that helps Miranda learn about her grandmother and mother and it’s Jake that helps Miranda learn about herself and her future.

A truly wonderful, light read that flew right by. The characters were engaging and the plot kept me interested all the way until the end. Nothing too taxing but sometimes you just want a charming romance and that is exactly what you get here.

I read this book while staying in a cabin up in Alaska. I found myself longing for the small New England town that Ms. Case so adroitly creates through her prose. The book is beautifully written. There are a couple of surprises as you go along that I certainly did not pick up on ahead of time. I also thought this book did a great job imparting a few important life lessons through some of it's wonderfully described characters. I can see this very easily becoming a movie. I could not put the book down and finished it in less than 24 hours. The book itself is beautifully bound - it's nice to see binding like this still exists. A fun and enjoyable summer read!

Life always has ups and downs and sometimes you get stuck in a rut, and become comfortable in that space. Then something happens that you have no control over and you have an out that may change your life for the better but you don't know it at that moment. I loved this book. It touches on so many levels of self respect, taking challenges that make you uncomfortable and makes you believe anything is possible! This is a story about life, pour yourself a glass of wine, or a cup of coffee and enjoy the ride!

This sentimental novel will draw you in and hold you captive by its old-fashioned charm. Miranda is on an unknowing personal journey of self-discovery, and the connections she weaves with the Cobblers Hill natives will leave you breathless with anticipation. L. S. Case bleeds thoroughly descriptive writing that will transport you into the depths of this romance novel. Her captivating character development is charming and endearing. A summer of self discovery beckons for Miranda when she is forced to spend 100 days in her estranged late grandmother’s house as a condition of her will.

However, part of her inheritance turns out to involve a reluctant Miranda embracing change and learning to trust.

“People can draw strength from your yesterday, and you can provide hope for their tomorrow.” (Page 92)

Thoughtful, soul searching and inspiring it turns out that a sunshine summer break at Cobblers Hill was exactly what I needed!

Trouble is, for an awakening Miranda 100 days isn’t anywhere near enough…

Miranda’s grandmothers will stipulates she spend one hundred days in Cobblers Hill to be able to inherit all her grandmother has left her. The details of which she won’t find out until the days are up.

Miranda begrudgingly accepts the terms viewing it as a sentence of sorts and determined to just get through it so she can return to her simple existence in Barron Park.

And existence is what it is. The longer she spends in Cobbler Hill the more she learns about herself and her grandmother. She begins to view life differently. She also begins to see nothing is as it seems.

Miranda will have to decide what to do with all that she learns. She will have to decide whether she wants more or will just return to life as it was before.

This book is such a sweet story. There are so many lessons woven into these pages, something for every reader. I was so touched by the lessons Miranda learned and cannot wait to see what the author writes next.

Thank you to Books Forward Friends for the copy of this book. All views are my honest opinion.

Miranda Blair is twenty-five-years old and still living with her mother. Miranda's father walked out of the house when she was in kindergarten, never to return again. His absence affected both of them tremendously. One day a letter from a lawyer's office arrives addressed to Miranda. She is the beneficiary of her estranged grandmother's estate with a stipulation that she must spend one hundred days in Trudy's New England cottage. Miranda has never been open to new experiences. She has always taken the most safe and familiar paths through life. But she recognizes this opportunity as a possible way to explore a new area and to begin living her life differently.
This was an interesting take on the theme of someone inheriting something they didn't want. Miranda's journey takes more than the hundred days. She is guided along the way by some friendly neighbors in a charming small town setting. Her mother also does some self-discovery during the time they spend apart. I liked the characters and the manner in which the story was presented bits at a time.

I usually don't read romance because I'm not looking for anything steamy or sappy, but a co-worker recommended A Hundred Days Till Tomorrow. It pleasantly surprised me and was just what I hoped... a very well-written, wholesome small-town romance. A beautiful love story, it reminded me of a movie I'd see on the Hallmark channel or a Debbie Macomber novel. I absolutely fell in love with the characters, the affirmations... EVERYTHING! I found myself thinking of the characters long after I reached the last page. They became friends. Pick up a copy of this one... and enjoy!

A Hundred Days Till Tomorrow is such a heartfelt and surprisingly sweet read. When Miranda inherits her deceased grandmother’s New England cottage, she finds herself stuck with a challenge to stay there for one hundred days. There she meets Adelaide and her grandson, Jake who become quick friends to her. I felt like this book was a quick read for me to get into and I really enjoyed reading it!

Miranda’s character feels real and relatable, and I think she was written very well! The romance between her and Jake is definitely a favorite part! I loved pretty much every part of this book!
