After a desperate struggle to sever ties with her husband, Kira Gregory is suddenly a free woman. She can start a new life without guns, drugs, dirty money, or fear. But Kira's newfound independence seems too good to be true. And it is. . .
When you can't outrun your past?
DEA Special Agent Dexter Brady spent months trying to get Kira's husband, Kareem Gregory, off the streets, but he has never come to terms with his growing feelings for Kira. He knows that any sort of a relationship with her is a recipe for disaster, but when danger finds Kira again, Dexter will bend every rule, face any enemy, and make any sacrifice to keep the woman he loves safe from harm. . .

**THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS**
First I have to start off by saying that I absolutely loved [[ASIN:B004ELAH9A Deadly Pursuit]] That book really had the Romance and Suspense on point, so I was thoroughly excited to read this book to see how Kareem and Kira turned out. Although the story was well written, it was entirely too predictable. While reading this book I knew what was going to happen before it happened, and it really made the story anti-climatic for me, and took me nearly a week to get through it which is really long for me.
You can read from the product description of this book and know that now somehow Kira is a free woman, so that was to be expected. But the whole dramatic way Kareem was "killed" was just blah, and of course he wasn't dead. Any person with half a brain could have figured that out. All of the "coincidences" that were happening to Kira, and later to Dexter were just too obvious, and of course it was Kareem. Throughout the book Kira keep going on and on about Kareem not being dead, and about her always having this eery feelings, and surprise big shocker, Kareem really wasn't dead. So the suspense portion of this book was non-existent.
Now onto the romance portion. Kira and Dexter played this game of not getting together for so long that it too started to get very old. When they finally came together in the last 50 pages of the book it was just an ok love scene. The book probably really could have done without it, and Kira's naïveté about Dexter's feelings for her was just so off since she was now her new found self with so much confidence and self assurance. She should have seen him coming a mile away.
I just think the book could have been way better if maybe Kareem made his reappearance years down the line when Kira would have least expected it. He came back just way too soon, and there was no suspense or surprise in the things he did before he actually showed his face. If this series continues with Kerry which I think it will since he miraculously survived death, then it really needs to go in a whole new direction.
I noticed some inconsistencies I missed the first time I read this story. Like- what happened with Kira's lil pill habit. It just went away. And the constant metaphors nearly drove me nuts. Kareem, Is he gone for real this time? And something about Brady was different from story one to part two. I'll still be back for the conclusion. I need to see Kerry's good side shine. Overall, this was a good read. 3.85 stars.
This is more CR noT RS that was looking for , the H CAME off as just too sweet, too available, nice guy and h was actually done well....no insta lust . Romance took time and worked well..but the suspense was zero .
I have to start off by saying I didn’t realize this was book two in a series until I started reading. I was a little lost, but the story took right off. Be ready for a story packed full of action, suspense, and romance! I really liked the dialog and overall language of the book; it felt very real and natural. Dexter and Kira are well written compatible characters. The suspense really does keep the pages turning. I was up into all hours of the night because I lost track of time while reading.
I will definitely be looking into more of Ann Christopher’s writing. I do recommend reading the first book in the series before reading this one, and avoid all the character and situation confusion.
I enjoyed this 2nd part to the series as much as the 1st...especially seeing how a relationship would unfold between Brady and Kira. I cannot wait to read how a relationship unfolds with Kerry and Jayne in the next part of this series. I also enjoyed how the story was not focused solely on the sexual part of the relationship being that there are other ways to connect in a relationship in addition to that. .
What a story, Kareem ups the devil's spawn of so it seems, he has everyone around him terrified, SEA and other government agencies trying to get him and they finally do, only he finds a way out unkempt to anyone. Kid a did not believe he was dead a and her instincts were on point. A MUST read. Lots and Brady find love.
I can't really review this book in depth. First, let me say the store line was a bit choppy but fair. About a 1/4 of the way through the audio version, I couldn't listen any longer. The male performer was horrible at doing a female voice.
Great follow on from book 1. Kira finally gets her chance to move on and create new experiences. Her and Dexter both deserve a little happiness. Kareem really is the devil incarnate, a villain that definitely does not deserve a happy ending.
Honestly I cannot get enough of the romantic mystery/suspense drama. I would just like to say I KNEW IT! Lol but I was still so excited to read it and see how it turned out. I’m the end, it all worked out the way I hoped it would. But whew, it was a crazy ride!

Great book but not a standalone title. Deadly Pursuits should be read first in order to understand who the charcters are and their motivations. Apparently, Kira Gregory has been helping DEA Special Agent Dexter Brady to bring her drug kingpin husband down. Agent Brady has been holding back his feelings for the criminal's wife but once Kareem Gregory is dead, nothing can hold him back any longer. However. Kira has a few more skeletons in her closet that will make Dexter question his judgement. Since I just met Kira in this book, I have to withhold judgement of her. She is the wife a drug kingpin but claims not to have known what her husband was doing for most of their marriage. Though she is a strong female characters, I need to find more about her in order to like her. Once I have gone back to read Deadly Pursuit, I might have to revisit and change my opinions of this book.
Great follow-up to Deadly Pursuit. I actually read this one in a day! Kareem was the devil incarnate, and his mama was a straight up fool! I loved Dexter, but wasn't as drawn to Kira for some reason. Dexter was a sweetie pie and I was glad that their relationship wasn't too drawn out, but it would have been nice to have more sex scenes, cause honey, Ms. Ann knows how to bring the heat!!
I don't want to give anything away, but I must have missed the whole Kerry/Kira thing in the first book, cause I was totally surprised when it came up. I was also totally surprised by who didn't die in the end and I'm wondering if this means that there will be another book in the series? I sure hope so!
I just knew that Kareem was alive. I did think Kira was crazy when she grabbed that man at the funeral because I thought he wasn't that sick to attend his own funeral.....BUT SURPRISE HE DID. I'M SO GLAD SHE PISTOL WHOOPED THAT BEHIND!!!!!
Great combo of suspense and romantic tension. Had me leaving early to pick up the kids from school so I could sneak in a few minutes to read in the car.
THIS BOOK WAS BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. I LOVE WHEN A BOOK HAS EVERYTHING YOU WOULD WATCH IN A MOVIE ABOUT HOW TO BRING DOWN A DRUG KINGPIN. IT WAS WORTH THE READ.
