I'm sitting here waiting for my fiancee to get a bubble tea and she just texted that she dropped it and they're making her another one, so no better time to write a book review that one person may read.
I got this book on sale in elementary school if I recall, on the strength of the fact that there was a picture of Ferguson in a Habs uniform on the cover. I was an insane Habs fan as a kid but didn't know who Ferguson was. If you are a fan of hockey lore, minor league hijinks it's worth a read. I just googled Ferguson Ferguson he won 5 cups, these were great Canadiens teams despite being sandwiched between the 55-60 and 76-79 dynasties.
When I was a youth watching hockey on television, I absolutely HATED John Ferguson. He was always being aggressive to my beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. He often picked on Eddie Shack. This book explains Ferguson's motivation - he wanted to win and it was his sole motivation. He also had a fierce temper. He never backed down from a challenge. A good read. I wonder if the title, Thunder and Lightning was used first by him or by Phil Esposito?
