About the author

Dr Rosalind K. Marshall, is a well-known writer and historian. She has written widely on the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, specialising in women’s history, and is the author of seventeen books, including The Days of Duchess Anne, John Knox, Queen Mary’s Women and Scottish Queens. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and research associate of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, to which she has contributed more than fifty articles.

I had started this book before and just couldn't get through it. Then I read the Phillipa Gregory books about this period and decided to revisit Marshall's book. So glad that I did. A great summary and reinforced the Gregory books. Pictures and illustrations were wonderful. Easy to read. A wonderful way to begin 2021.

It was good information as I find this time period interesting. I did have trouble finishing 2/3 through as it dragged on and too many details on her "pets", Admirals, Lords, Secretaries, etc.... . Overall I get Queen Elizabeth's character and relationships - and that's what I was wanting from this book.

I very much enjoyed this brief history of the reign of English monarch Elizabeth I. It has a wonderful overview of events in the life of the queen and her reign and is embellished with helpful photographs and portraits that support the text.
