He's more damaged than he appears. But then so is she.
And the mountain always knows.
New Yorker Brit Lehman never intended to hook a cowboy, but Gage Ryan digs his ruined talons into her the moment she sets foot on Red Hart Ranch land and refuses to let go. The city girl clings to her identity while the ex- military officer strips her bare one layer at a time.
That doesn't stop her from giving him true NYC what for...while she trembles at his every touch that burns her soul deep.
Gage Ryan never meant to fall in love a second time. But when Brit Lehmen struts into his desolate, loner life, he gets an inkling the city girl is tougher than her primped exterior suggests...and he's prepared to rip her into pieces to make sure she is what she advertises...the spitting image of his late wife, with a sassy mouth that boils his blood to boot.
Gage is ready to risk his broken-grunt heart one last time while Brit isn't honestly sure she can handle the ex-soldier who sets up camp anywhere and create a home. Maybe that's what she's missing....until the temporary home she says she doesn't want is ripped away, and she finds out just how much she needed it.
Shadow on the Range is an age-gap, enemies to lovers steamy cowboy romance and is part of the Red Hart Ranch world.
USA Today Bestselling romance author Sofia Aves is a mum to three crazies, a veteran's wife and herds three pregnant alpacas before breakfast each day (watch out, they spit). She lives near Brisbane, Australia. Sofia started writing romance when she couldn't find the books she wanted on the shelves in her local bookstore and became addicted to storytelling. She exists on a diet of coffee and champagne and routinely kills her collection of tortured orchids and kitchen edibles.
This is book four in Sofia Aves "Red Heart Ranch" series, Sofia has written a beautiful, emotional, all encompassing story that will have you longing for more, or as in my case, a blubbering wreck. Britt Lehman was a city girl, studying in New York but she was restless, her sassy, feisty persona was just a front, her mother had died, her step mother disliked her, her friends were superficial and she had no roots. Britt was taking a break and staying with her sister Rachel at the ranch where she lived with her husband, Britt felt at peace on the ranch but it wasn't her home.....but neither was NYC. Ex Military Gage worked on the ranch, he was a nomad but always returned to Red Heart. Gage was almost two decades older than Britt, since his wife died he had become morose and brooding, he kept himself to himself, he watched Britt flirting with the ranch hands and seethed, even though he knew it was a front, underneath was a scared, insecure girl. There was a spark between Britt and Gage from the beginning but that didn't stop the constant arguing and bickering, Gage wouldn't give into temptation, he wouldn't be hurt again, he couldn't give Britt what she wanted but Britt was tenacious until............. life changed for Britt on one fateful day, life would never be the same again, would Gage be there to pick up the pieces ? could he help her rebuild her life ? I loved this story and I can't wait to read Kyle and Sienna's story. I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/🔥🔥🔥🔥
✅ Age Gap ✅ Enemies to Lovers ✅ Opposites Attract ✅ Ex-Military Cowboy ✅ City Girl ✅ Brat/ Daddy Kink
Brit Lehman is on her way from NYC to Montana for her sisters wedding. Her ride from the airport is a handsome, rugged cowboy, Gage. Gage and Brit spend their time pulling each other in by flirting and then shoving each other away. After her sister’s wedding and a deep confession from Gage about his past, Brit decides to try to make Red Hart Ranch home (even though she’s never really felt at home anywhere). She really only wants one thing though, the rugged cowboy she’s unwittingly fallen for. Can Gage work through their age difference and his need to move from ranch to ranch in order to settle down and give Brit what they both want? Will an issue with missing supplies at the ranch cause even more issues for Brit and Gage?
I loved this book so much! Brit and Gage’s chemistry was undeniable and I loved their Brat/Daddy vibes! I didn’t see the twist coming at all. I can’t wait for the next book in the RHR series!
Thank you, Sofia Aves, for an ARC of this book. My review is mine and freely given!
Gage doesn't say much, but when he talks to Brit, it's usually growly and snarky. Luckily, Brit gives as good as she gets. She's young and lost, and he's quite a bit older and broken. They're an oddball match, but they work. When something awful comes her way, will Gage be able to save her? Will they find happiness together on Red Hart Ranch?
Sofia Aves has outdone herself with this one. I've loved this whole series, as well as the TeXan Devils series. This is the best of the lot. Do be aware of the trigger warnings, but know that each situation is handled with sensitivity and grace. The characters are well developed and the tapestry of the story is well woven. It may be read as a stand alone, but is better enjoyed read in order with the rest of the series. I definitely recommend this one as worth the one click.

Firstly I loved this. What a pallette cleanser with a cute yet explosive couple! Brit(ney) abandons life in NYC to come to Montana ready for her sisters wedding to the owner of Red Heart Ranch. Upon her arrival she's collected for the drive home by a slightly older seasonal ranch hand that gives her some serious daddy vibes. Ex US Army Colonol, Gage. From there you watch their back and forth bickering like an old married couple and near misses as she tries to lure him to her. You find out why he's so reserved, honestly such a sad back story. There's lots of tension and once they get together there's some spice too 🌶🌶🌶 Such a sweet story which does get a happy ending! However watch out for this sneaky triggers as you witness drugging and off page SA. Overall id rate it the following for a super sweet short(ish) cute read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶🌶
They met in Montana as two very broken souls. Gage with no last name rambling from ranch to ranch, and Brit a city girl not fitting into her family came to Red Hart Ranch for her sister's wedding. She soon discovered that she liked life on the ranch. Even more surprising she felt a magnet attraction for Gage that he insisted she should forget about, but she continued to ignore his warnings causing many arguments between them resulting in problems with the hired hands on the ranch. Something was going to have to change. You will be amazed at all the little complexities hidden inside this story waiting to unfold as Brit and Gage's story was disclosed. Love's a true bonding of souls as you will discover in this story.

The sparks start flying as soon as Gage and Brit meet. He's a ranch hand at the Red Heart Ranch, picking up his foreman's soon to be sister-in-law for an extended stay. She is helping her sister prepare for the wedding. Immediately, he pegs her as a spoiled city girl, a beautiful one. She pegs him as a grumpy loner, but so handsome. She enjoys flirting and teasing him, but it doesn't have the results she wanted.
After several months on the ranch, Brit is still convinced Gage doesn't like her, but her attraction hasn't waned. She is wrong, though. Gage likes her, but he has secrets from his past that make him wary of falling in love.
I really liked revisiting Red Heart Ranch and can't wait for the next book!.

Gage is a ranch hand who works the Red Hart Ranch certain times during the year and loves not staying in one place. He has gone through some rough times in life. When he meets Brittany the Boss's soon to be sister in-law sparks fly between them but she is young, spoiled, and very flirty. Brittany thinks she can act the same as if she is still in New York but she gets a quick and embarrassing lesson from Gage. Eventually realization that she is dealing with a real man changes her attitude, but there is a younger guy Jackson, Gage tells her the ranch hands are not what she is use to.. Drama, suspense, danger, violence, romance, and love, I received a copy without obligation. I volunteered an honest review.
Brit feels that she doesn’t belong anywhere. She doesn’t fit in New York and she doesn’t fit in Red Hart Ranch. However, after meeting Gage, she starts to feel at home whenever she is with him. Gage has terrible secrets that make him scared about making commitments. He is all the time on the run from one place to the next. Until Brit appears and she changes all his beliefs. Two broken people, a big age gap between them, a nomad and a city young girl, both without a home and some mystery and suspense, all mixed together to make a great story that I enjoyed a lot reading. Age Gap. Opposites Attract. Cowboy. Enemies to Lovers. Veteran.
Shadow on the Range by Sofia Aves is book 4 in the Red Hart Ranch series. Despite being apart of a series, it can also be read as a standalone. This book follows a stubborn city girl Brit and a ranch hand Gage from their first meeting through falling in love.
This couple truly defines a love hate relationship. Brit is definitely a Brat and Gage is a Daddy dom.
Towards the end of the story there is a major plot twist!! This is a must read western romance.
What I've enjoyed the most about this story was the way Gage and Brit got to tease each other on every page until bit by bit, they decide to give a chance to get to know each other better. Besides this, there are moments of deep family, friends and romantic relationships, tension, and abuse that grabbed my attention from the beginning to the last page.
I've received an ARC of this e-book from the author. All the opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I loved Britt and Gage! It was interesting to see how they interacted with each other. Britt grew a lot in this story; she had to see what she wanted in her future in several ways. I loved Gage’s grumpiness, and how he knew how to press Britt’s buttons. Gage’s story was intense. You have to read the book to see how Britt helps Gage move forward and how they start a relationship. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sofia Aves out did herself on this one! I’m gonna have to go back and read all her other books!!
This book was so good I didn’t want it to end!! I loved their banter and snarky comments! I loved how they vibe brat and daddy vibe they gave off!! The story got emotional and I’m so glad that they were able to pull through together. It made my heart happy they kept the promises they made to each other.
The author has given us an emotional older man/younger woman story that pulls us into the lives of Gage and Britt. The story keeps us turning the pages with connection, denial, realizations and steam.

Wow, what a read. This book grabbed me and kept me interested and reading until the very last page. It moves along at a really great pace that is perfect for the story. The characters are amazing and you will fall in love with them no matter what. This book needs to be read, there is no doubt about it. You will not be sorry that you did.
Really into age gap novels... They appeal on so many levels & this one goes to the very top of my list having felt that I was part of the journey experienced by the cowboy & the city girl. I wanted more & just know it will be a rare experience to want to re read this again in the future, ...goosebumps! I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.
Brit Lehman is a city girl, she's no longer wants to be a city girl! She's studying in New York but she is restless. Shes putting on a front, she comes across as feisty and sassy but deep down she's not, her mother died and her step mother hates her, plus her friends are fake and she had no roots. So brit takes a break, she goes and stays with her sister Rachel at the ranch where she lives with her husband, Britt felt at peace on the ranch but it not her home, but neither was NYC!!
Ex Military Gage works on the ranch, he is a loner but always returns to Red Heart. Gage is almost two decades older than Britt, since his wife died he had become angry and brooding, he kept himself to himself, he liked it that way!! But he's been watching Brit flirt with the ranch hands he's jealous, he know she's putting on a front, underneath it all was a scared ,insecure little girl!!
There was an instant spark between Brit and Gage from the beginning but that didn't stop the constant arguing and bickering, Gage wouldn't give into temptation, he wouldn't be hurt again, he couldn't give Brit what she wanted but Brit was tenacious until life changed for Brit on one fateful day, life would never be the same again!! would Gage be there to pick up the pieces, could he help her rebuild her life, I loved there story, I loved watching her grow so much, it was fun reading gage press so many off Brits buttons 🤣 I highly recommend reading it, I was glued from the start and couldn't put it down, I so can't wait to read Sienna's and Kyle's story.
A fantastically fun, super spicy read. Brit is younger, and not used to the strong, silent Gage. Gage is the hot, older, grumpy, alpha who can't seem to stay away from Brit. These two are not only explosive in their communication but also between the sheets! What a fantastic read.
I give this one a 3.5. This is a well written story, and it has good characters, but it couldn't hold my interest. This should keep you from getting this book. There is a chance you will like it others really liked this one. I would encourage you to give this one a chance.
I love this series it a good book as part of the series. I don't like Jackson and his friend. Thank you Sofia Aves for writing these books. Please read and review your books.
This book is another home run from Sofia Aves. You can't help but root for Gage to find love & make a home for himself on the Ranch. I find myself hating for the book to end because I know I will have to wait a bit until the next one so I find myself rereading the previous ones just to remind myself of all my favorite cowboys!
