Giving Birth: Reclaiming the Biblical Metaphor for Pastoral Practice

Rate this book
The birth of a child is important in the lives of women, families, and communities. It can also be a vital force to churches in providing them with a model for strength, endurance, and compassion, says Margaret Hammer. Despite a wealth of fascinating material, childbearing is an underdeveloped theme in theology and ministry. Hammer intends to remedy that with this fascinating book.

WOW. I mean. Wow. I've never explored theology and biblical significance of birth, and I picked this up for a paper for seminary, intending to only read the chapters on the Bible and old testament significance. Nope. I finished the book. Hammer opens the door to develop a systematic theology on birth that was incredible to read, and it makes me so excited to think feminist theology has gotten to this point. She cites beloved feminist theologians and traces from the Bible through church history to developing ministry surrounding birth. As a female pastor, it makes me so beyond excited to minister into families to develop this further. Loved it so so much!
