Proverbs for Kids

Rate this book
Written by a Christianity Today International editor, this devotional from the Book of Proverbs is designed to be a platform for you to talk about the issues that your 8-12-year-old child faces every day. They are designed to be short and simple so that you are more likely to read them as a family consistently throughout the year. Much of what our children see on television, at school, on the internet, and so on shows us how much we need the Book of Proverbs. All we have to do is watch people around us to figure out how to do what is wrong. It is much harder to find those who will tell us what's right. King Solomon does just that in Proverbs. It's amazing to see that people really haven't changed much in 3,000 years. Kids wanted answers then, and they still do now. Proverbs 1:3 tells us that the Book of Proverbs will teach us how to be wise, self-controlled, honest, fair, and right. If we can help our children get a start on all those things while they are still young, think what terrific people they will be as adults!

Brad Reardon is a full-time missionary with ReachGlobal. He and his colleagues pass on three things to pastors who have little or no training:

1. How to study the Bible: They train pastors in basic Bible study skills so they can preach truth and disciple their churches.

2. How to obey the Bible: They help pastors to see that the goal of studying the Bible is obedience, as well as to exercise humble servant leadership and loving pastoral care.

3. How to teach the Bible: They equip pastors to proclaim God’s truths with power, conviction, and clarity, and to pass on the training they are receiving to other pastors they know.

Where they are currently training: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, India, and Southeast Asia. They are also setting up training in Liberia, Burundi, Zambia, Congo, Costa Rica, Philippines, Brazil, and Mexico.

We really liked this book for our daily family Bible time. Many of the stories prompted longer discussions. Occasionally I had to update a story a story on the fly (video store became videogame store, etc.). Even though our kids are different ages, these worked and we learned a lot about the Proverbs.
