Exterium

Rate this book
What if there is a parallel universe and within it a planet called Exterium? And what if, many years ago, an eccentric scientist from Exterium creates a stone that harnesses a portal to Earth? What if that stone gets lost by an evil computer genius only to be stumbled upon by ten-year-old Max Hopkirk?

Max shares his discovery with his older brother Michael and together they unlock the portal to Exterium and find themselves not only being pursued by the evil computer genius, but also other groups that desire control of the stone. One group, Scientists for the Advancement of Earth Studies (SAES), wants to gain possession of the stone and research Earth. Another group views the portal as means to the destruction of a bellicose Earth. And yet another less scientific group is determined to use the portal to rule a technologically inferior Earth.

The Hopkirk boys are found and protected by the Twitchell family that also happens to work for the SAES. As the Twitchells study the stone, they discover it is powered by tiny batteries, and theorize that once they run out the boys will no longer be able to return to Earth.

The Twitchell’s son Marcus, along with his seductive tom-boyish friend Lavinia, devises a plan to return the boys home before it is too late.

Each Hopkirk boy has an inner conflict that he must confront as a matter of survival. Max must relax his serious and controlled personality, putting trust in his intelligent, yet reckless older brother. Michael must rise above his immaturity and face the enemies that challenge him, countering between using reason and wiles to protect himself and his little brother.

I got this book with a free coupon. I was looking for a good sci-fi book and this one delivered.
There was a lot of good action and I really liked the characters and the strange aliens from exterium.
Reading was easy and I got through it in a couple of days. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5 was because I was hoping there would be more romance bewteen Lavinia and Mike. It touched on it nicely, but never developed.
