This is a children's book that I picked up for a quarter at the SF Public Library Big Book Sale. It is a very disturbing book. The hellish images contained within cannot be unseen. For the price of 25 cents, I bought myself a lifetime's worth of nightmares.

Story: there's a giant trapped in a house, for reasons unknown. Meanwhile, a nearby villlage gets devastated by a hurricane. A kid discovers the giant and leads the villagers to the house. They take apart the house to use the lumber for rebuilding, freeing the giant in the process. At first the giant is very helpful, but then he gets to be a pain in the arse, e.g. he snores too loud. So the villagers quite reasonably decide to BURY HIM ALIVE. Hundreds of years later, some other kids find him in a well, and the cycle of eldritch horror continues.

Admittedly, when I read this to my 4-yr old daughter she was nonplussed. I asked her if it was terrifying, and she said no. But here are some pictures from the book-- judge for yourself.

OH HAI THERE

couldn't they have just asked him politely to leave?

"nah, let's just dig a hole and bury him alive."

(1000 years later) OH HAI THERE

look at these freakshows... hairy bulging arms... this is the most disturbing image of them all. Get your shovels, there's a more buryin' to do
