*** 3 1/2 stars ***

Cullen Longton shows up at a Scottish nunery looking for his baby son born to his now deceased lover. Sara McHern offers Cullen a deal - she needs a husband right away to avoid her father making her marry a smelly horrible man or become a nun. In return, she promises to tell Cullen the location of his young son, whose life she saved when the baby's grandfather had paid off the abbess to kill him because he was angry at his daughter for getting pregnant to a commoner.

Cullen is not happy about Sara's terms but reluctantly agrees because he is desparate to find his son. Sara just wants him to take her home and show her father that she has a husband, then he can disappear with his son and she will be left alone. Along the way to her land, Cullen and Sara get to know each other very well. He is impressed with Sara's courage and strength, she is a woman who does what she thinks is right no matter the consequences and is self-sufficient. Sara sees Cullen as the strong, honorable man she always wanted. Will they be able to get over the obstacles in their path and find love together?

I have mixed feelings about this book. My biggest problem was that there were three main characters to this book: Cullen, Sara and the ghost of Cullen's dead lover Alaina. Cullen spends most of the book thinking of how much he loves Alaina and how he could never love another with the same passion as he did with her. I felt like Sara got really jipped. She was a strong, couragous woman who deserved a man who would love her completely. I think Cullen loved her but I wasn't convinced that he didn't just find her convenient and handy to have around. Cullen love for Alaina just took over way too much of the book and he seemed much more passionate about her than Sara. I did like the story, it was interesting and I like both Cullen and Sara but I didn't like the way the author set up the story. Both Cullen and Sara deserve to have a once in a lifetime love not a "well, my real love died and you are a great person who I have really gotten used to" type of love.

So overall: decent story with one major flaw of having a dead lover overshadow the featured love story so I felt like the hero and heroine were jipped, him because his original love was killed and her because she deserved Cullen to have loved her as fiercly as he loved Alaina. I did still like the story though, so that's why I have the mixed feelings.

I enjoyed this story. Both Cullen and Sara were likeable characters, though I felt like kicking Callum, for always bringing up his love for his son’s late mother.
At least in the end he realised what a prize he had with Sara.

I'm very torn with rating this book. A very low 3 or possibly a 2. Yes, the book was filled with the love Cullen felt for his dead love (Alicia). Of course, 3/4's of the book took place within 3 weeks, and she had only been dead for 5 months. So the book was filled with how much he loved Alicia. He couldn't love Sara because of Alicia.

Cullen was looking for the son Alicia had before she died, and had to marry Sara before she would tell him where she had hidden his child. She wanted marriage to ensure that she would not have to marry the man that her father had chosen for her.

I really wouldn't recommend this to a friend to read when there are so many better books out there.

2 stars Weak story, if I hear the name, Alaina one more time… 95% of the story was spent on how much he loved Alaina. Although Sara was strong willed, watching her pine for this man, knowing it would never work out was frustrating. The HEA was totally unsatisfying.

Wonderful novel that shows the depth of the love between two people who never thought to find love, or in Cullen's case to find love again. Cullen has come to the abbey that Sara is at looking for his son. Whilw questioning the inhabitants he finds that the only one who can give him the answers he seeks is Sara. But getting the answers comes with a price.

Sara has to find a husband and quick. If she does not find a husband soon her father will for her to marry someone she loathes or to take her vows. Neither outcome is acceptable to her. When Cullen shows up she knows her prayers have been answered. All she needs to do is get him to marry her, convince her father of the marriage and then leave. Then she will finally have the freedom she desires. But as she comes to admire and respect Cullen, slowly she falls in love.

Cullen never meant to take a wife. He is still reeling from the death of his son's mother and cannot imagine ever loving anyone else. But as he travels with Sara to her home, he finds himself thinking more of Sara and less of Aliana. He must decide if he can overcome the guilt of loving someone who is not his son's mother.

Great story, the second in the series. However it can be read as a stand alone novel.

A child marked for death, a woman put in a convent by her Highland laird father until she agrees to wed a man of his choice, and the Highlander searching for the child of the woman he loves who was murdered by her father. This makes for a compelling story of a girl who makes a pact withthe young highlander in exchange for finsing his child. I enjoyed this very much.

I picked this up at a library sale in Seminole for $1 because I'm an absolute slag for highlander romance. It's my ultimate comfort and I can't help but snag them whenever I see them. I swear I've got Celtic Woman on a nonstop loop in ma wee brain. I read this author a decade ago when I used an Amazon gift card to buy a book where the couple was literally chained together. I remembered the unique premise to ten years later and decided to give the author another chance. I liked the writing, fun dynamic between the couple, and the pacing, but I felt so awful for the heroine. The hero was strung up over his dead baby mama and recently found out his infant son wasn't deceased like he previously thought. Oof, talk about emotional baggage. The heroine promised to help direct him towards his son under the condition that he marry her to appease her father and escape a disastrous marriage with another groom. I thought that was fair enough and something I might try in my desperate days as an old maid. Thankfully, I'm not hopelessly stuck in a nunnery like Sara.

I did like the unique plotline, although there was a lot of the author teasing the scenes before they finally consummated their marriage of convenience. I do give her major points because the main reason Sara refused his advances was that she knew he didn't love her and was still hung up on his dead lover. I mean, valid point, chickie baby. I did enjoy certain elements, although there was a typo less than 20 pages into the book where they used "loose" instead of "lose my son". It's always wild to me that errors make it that far into publication when it passes through so many people's eyeballs on its way to the presses. I would definitely read this author again if I found her at my future book sales. One of my biggest takeaways from this book, other than pitying the heroine, was how the hero gave the best Finding Nemo impression as he constantly asked about the whereabouts of his missing bebe.

Cullen Longton stays in Scotland to find his infant son after his brother Burke and the famous female outlaw, Storm rescue him from prison. In the escape his Aliana dies in his arms after revealing he has an infant son to find.

Sara McHern prays for a good man to become her husband and Cullen has come in search of his son and she makes a bargain with him to wed her and she will take him to his son so he can go to America to provide for Alexander on the ranch land in the Dakota Territory that he inherited with his brother.

The Highlander's Bride is the adventures and romance that Cullen and Sara share and the escape to America they seek. It is a great historical romance full of excitement and adventure. I loved the ending.

This book reads like a kid wrote it imagining what adults would do in the scenario. I wanted to like it. I wanted to finish it, but I didn't. The characters constantly changed their mind and probably 150 of the first 174 pages was them being stuck in situations to have sex but don't. First because he doesn't want to, then because she doesn't want to, but all they talk about is doing it!

Anyway. I didn't finish it.

This Heroine was too strong, smart and kind. She kept her virginity until the end of chapters. This book more about drama and feeling sorry for themselves. First i love the heroine and feel sorry for her but after reading until almost finish, i felt bored. The good thing in this book when Sarah was sacrified herself, and he admited to his brother and sister in law that he loves Sarah.

My favourite trope is a woman protecting a child. This alone would have guaranteed my reading this book. A strong woman weds a stranger to secure her freedom from a nunnery in exchange for helping Cullen find his infant son.

Well written, great characters and a storyline that engages a reader. I didn’t want to put the book down.

3.5 stars. Loved the strong female lead. Too much talk of Alaina, who died at the end of the last book. 170 mentions of her.

A Family made of chaos and love

Sacrifices and friendship are the best foundations for love and happiness in a relationship between husbands and their wives. Sara and Cullen are examples of that principle in every way.

Kind of messed up how this relationship develops. Which, to be fair, is not unusual in thins kind of book. But still, didn't love it.

After reading Isle of Lies, also by Donna Fletcher, I was skeptical about trying any of her other titles. The Highlanders Bride had been on my wish list for some time so I thought to give it a try. I fell in love within the first chapter. The story is set in 1514, not really considered medieval by some but close enough for this chick. I won't give a description of the plot as it has been well written by another reviewer, I'll just give my pov.

Our heroine Sara has got to be in my top 5 favorite heroines. She is a warrior, courageous, defiant, emotional and most outspoken, a charm I love in my heroines. Her outspoken tongue is one of the reasons this book different from other historical romance novels. Sara declared her feelings for Cullen 95% of the time. There were not any misunderstandings about her feelings for him (most of the time). The great lengths she went through to assure that Cullen's son was safe from harm warmed my heart. Her good natured heart and character will quickly win the reader over. You'll be hooked.

Cullen is most interesting as well. A warrior, intelligent, fair, generous and above all, honest. Though I did not enjoy his constant declarations that he would never love again, I understood why he felt torn. He does not mistreat our heroine, only gives it to her straight about his intentions and feelings. All the while trying to convince himself that his feelings for her are out of gratitude for saving his son. He fills her with passion and in turn she makes him smile when he thought he'd not smile again. I was really impressed and enjoyed seeing Cullen blossom and progress chapter after chapter.

Mrs. Fletcher does a nice job of giving us just the right amount of romance and danger. Also, our hero is not a powerful noble but a normal highlander warrior who has a good amount of coin to weigh his pockets. They are traveling for a good portion of the book. One place in particular stands out :-) I laughed, wanted to cry and looked forward to seeing the story unfold. I don't see any promise for a sequel but I would love one all the same. HIGHLY Recommended!!!

The Highlander's Bride

I gave this book five stars because the plot was good. The hero and heroine are very likeable. If you like good historical romance give this one a try. I read the first in the series and this is a good follow up.

I've read the Irish hope series by Donna fletcher and the sinclaire brothers series as well. This was a little different and although I enjoyed it I believe it was a little repetitive from the ones I've already read. Same writing just with different characters and situations. Overall a catching tale.

Slow in the middle since for crying out loud Sara is holding out for love "in that century"-- & what an idiot Cullen is with everything Sara did to save his son, he should have been kissing her ass--Literally
