(A 90-page True Crime Short with photographs) Over the period of fourteen years, one woman’s children--one only nineteen days old--died suddenly while in her exclusive care. One by one, each child died a quiet and mysterious death while everyone around the woman--friends, family, neighbors, doctors, and police--seemed powerless to stop the killings. She would arrive at funerals, the perfect image of a broken-hearted mother who seemed overwhelmed by inexplicable events. But there were those who believed she had systematically murdered her nine children and then tried to convince others that it was not her, but rather it was some genetic curse on her family. A stunning tale of denial and neglect and murders unsolved, The Killer is one of the most bizarre and unique cases in the history of American justice.ABOUT THE AUTHORMark Gado was a detective with the city of New Rochelle Police Department in New York for twenty-nine years as well as a federal agent assigned to a special DEA task force between 1997 and 1999. A 90-page true crime story about a sadistic woman whose 9 children were murdered over 14 years. All presumably done by her.
I am fascinated by true crime, serial killers, all non-fiction crimeapalooza books. This one caught my attention because of the horrendous nature of its subject.
It was incredibly disappointed, it might as well have been a short news article instead. It wasn't in-depth at all, a mere 2-3 pages was spent on each murdered child from birth to death. I was hoping for more of a real story, history of her childhood, life of the kids, analysis of her.. and it just wasn't there.
If you come across the book for free or super cheap, like I did, it wouldn't be bad to page through while waiting for an appointment or a short commute.
Mark Gado took a shot at a story to begin this book, but I don't feel like it quite hit for me. It felt choppy and out of place. As for the information given in the crime, that was much more interesting. I just wish there had been a little more information given. All the major topics were touched on crime, trial, incarceration), but the details felt scant.
Not quite as in-depth as I would have liked but okay. I wish I hadn't paid 3 bucks for it! Won't make that mistake again, promise! MSBP has always fascinated me, probably because I can't comprehend it, and this case was the first one I ever heard about as a young woman so that is why I paid $3! As I've said for many years; you need a license to fish, hunt, drive (and a different license for each vehicle you drive), pilot a plane or boat, build things, cut hair, practice law or medicine but any idiot (or monster) can have kids! Go figure!
Detailed account but does not really explain why Tinning killed her children. A more thorough examination of her past might shed more light on her behavior.
