Paul Morabito is an American born fiction/nonfiction author that was raised in a close knit Italian-American family in the state of New Jersey where pasta and meatball Sundays were always commonplace. He had an amazing childhood until the sudden tragic death of his dear brother, Carmelo. It was this event that stirred the will and desire to succeed physically, mentally and artistically to make his brother and family proud. Paul took on and enjoyed martial arts where he excelled at a very young age. Determined to find another passion, Paul stumbled upon chess and another hidden musical talent which made him form a local band with childhood friends. He soon mastered and played lead guitar which became an extension of himself for many years to come as an accomplished musician. His love for music grew and still remains to this day as does his desire to release a solo album in the future.
On the path to achieving a degree in pharmacy, Paul discovered a great interest in English Literature where he focused on masterpiece tragedies and works such as those written by Shakespeare, Chaucer, and Poe. Little was known that this would spark a fire of inspiration to jump into the world of writing where creative minds blossom and run free. His career took over a decade long hiatus but was blessed with two beautiful princesses who are his everything. The urge to continue with his dream led to the release of two latest projects in the same year, both stemming from an Evangelical Christian background. The author’s faith in God remains strong and he entrusts his life, children and career in His hands. Paul plans to continue writing across all fictional genres and start filming his first cinematic production.
Aaron Speer Firstly this will be spoiler free. This book surprised me. Also managed to scare me; two things normally quite difficult to do. The idea of a cursed house has been done before, but the author shows us how/why the evil that plagues it exists. By doing this it creates an intriguing base for the reader, as we understand exactly what is going on before the characters do, and as the main family draw closer to the house they manage to get quite cheap, a sense of dread comes over you. What is scary about this book is at its core, I believe, is simply about a family trying to make its way in a very big scary world. Just how scary? Read it to find out. ;-) The only thing I found difficult was the writing style, as it did not continue "usual" styles. Not that this was a bad thing, just unusual. Instead of saying "she walked to" the author says, "she walks to". I can only assume this was done to bring the reader inside the story, to feel it happening around them. The author should be commended for thinking outside the box on this one. Well done
'These grounds aren't meant for building. There meant for harvesting'
Prayfield is inhabited by an evil entity which becomes unleashed and has a serious thirst of vengeance. Yes there was a moment in the book where I thought it had taken a turn into the 'bad scifi movie' route but it quickly changed and started to make sense.
There are plenty of great twists and a-ha! moments that keep things fresh and exciting, even once you start to get a good idea of where the plot is going. If you manage to figure out some of the details, there are lots of surprises in store.
The ending was unsettling yet satisfying, and I get the feeling that it'll be just as enjoyable to reread the story later.
In the mean time, I can certainly recommend THE PREYING GROUNDS. You'll want to read it on a cold night with the lights turned low. It's just that kind of novel.
There are books that are just very good, there are some great books and there are books that you wish you skipped and never tried reading in the first place. I don’t usually throw books into my DNF basement but sometimes it can’t be helped. Sometimes the book is so horrible that it doesn’t even deserve a second thought. But let me talk about everything from the start.
This book starts from a warning which instantly and basically reveals the main plot line of the story. I don’t approve of such things when it’s not a short story. I already felt bored by the plot and didn’t expect anything better than average story and average storytelling. Guess what - I was completely right!
Not surprisingly style of writing itself reminded me of a children’s book. Everything’s oversimplified, little to now descriptions. But that’s not all. We meet Big John Spear who is Native American. People want to buy land that belonged in his family for generations. He’s described as slow-witted but pure-hearted. And of course same men who wanted to buy that land from his mother appear now. And they are far from being nice (a true shocker, am I right?). Not only they make fun of John’s slower mind but also of his Native American heritage. I really hoped that those scumbags will pay for being a group of unrespectful douches. And I mentioned this once before: what’s good about reading horror is that horrible people usually get what they deserve.
Obviously they kill poor John because of their own greed and I had to stop reading for a moment. I was just so disgusted. But well, murders like this do happen in real life and it’s even more terrible when you think about it.
With the story explaining the past we get to “present day”. I couldn’t wait for shit to go down but when it did, it was so unsatisfactory.
Anyway, as two new characters were introduced author made me smile. They were talking about buying homes but the story has to start somewhere, right? And that would not have been so bad if the characters didn’t repeat themselves over and over again. I already understood that I will not like author’s writing style at all.
Few pages deeper there already was “a curse” vibe. Like, does this book even has something that isn’t told beforehand? I felt like I was reading a book I already read - no secrets and unexpected twists were possible and I was NOT happy.
After we get more into the story I began to feel like reading a draft. So many things left out. I didn’t think I would complain about something like this but the focus were only on conversations and they were very dry.
I read a little bit more before dropping this book. As I was reading ebook the formatting was terrible. And I mean terrible. I don’t know why such books as this exists in the first place. Like who even approved of publishing this? This is just horrible and not in a good way.
I give it 1 out of 5 just because I need to give some rating but trust me, pass on this one. I still have a bitter taste after spending two hours reading it.
