I am giving this book 5 Stars for a reason. I consider this book to be an autobiography of the author himself though the title does not indicate that. I must admit that this book made me laugh numerous times and also made me sad with tears. The success principles by Les Brown is not new in success literature but what makes this book unique is the uniqueness of his story. I read it, I admire him a great deal and I highly recommend this book.

"It is not over until you Win" by Les Brown is a book that lists down some of the success principles which may not really be new in success literature, but what makes this book unique is the uniqueness of his story and presentation of success principles in a rather refreshing manner.

I, hereby, list down the 14 of my learnings from this epic book. These learnings are worded and appended in a way that makes it easier for most of us to understand and absorb.

So, here we go with the list of 14 of my Book Lessons from this book that influenced me immensely.

(1) It is important to enjoy those times when life smiles at you.
Do not spend all your time planning for the next goal, rather do spend time to enjoy some of the milestones that you have already achieved.

(2) Nobody has all the answers all the time but there is always a way.
You got to believe in the fact that if there is a problem, there has to be a solution. It may take time, effort and energy to discover it, but the fact that there is a solution, should never make you lose hope.

(3) You are always more powerful than the conditions that surround you.
There is immense power in you. You are HIS creation, and how can HIS creation be weak or fragile? You must believe in your enormous potential, and leave a lasting impression around the world.

(4) If you risk your life staying in a zone which is comfortable and secure, you may regret not exposing your talent to the world.
If you truly believe that your potential is enormous, the only next thing that is going to stop you is the lack of ability to come out of your comfort zone.

(5) Fear death, if you want to, but don't fear life.
Learn to live before you die. Each one of us have the same beginning and the same end. It is the journey inbetween that we can script our own.

(6) Be careful what you dream and expect. You might just get it, or it may get you.
Your thoughts and dreams are energy. They are transmitted to this Universe, and they come back to you in the form of your destiny.

(7) Leave it to the woman you love, to remind you of your Values and the person you are.
That is why a woman can never be the same as a man. She has some unique abilities, wisdom and talent that a man is not designed to possess. You must trust your Intellectual Companion to show you the right way in the direction of your values.

(8) The only person who can potentially stop you from achieving your dreams is the person standing in your shoes. What you get in life is what you subconsciously you believe you deserve.
Your conversations and self talk with yourself holds the key. Your self confidence in your own abilities will define where you end up.

(9) Time just sneaks away before you can get a sense of how much has already sneaked. If you have unfulfilled dreams, write them down and go after them right away, with a sense of urgency.
Time happens to be your biggest asset in life. If you are spending your time on the things that you do not love to do, you are just wasting your life. In fact, time is the only currency.

(10) To reach success, you have to pass failure. It is OK to try and fail rather than not trying at all. Failures add meaning, texture and value to our success.
Not only that, failure is critical and mandatory for success. You got to prepare yourself, and failure is what will teach you and prepares you for success. Each setback and failure is a little nudge from HIM to Dream On.

(11) Momentum while chasing your dream is vital. It opens up enormous unseen opportunities.
There has to be an urgency to succeed. Your generated momentum will help you overcome many obstacles which you would otherwise find more difficult to overcome or will spend more than the required time and energy to do so.

(12) You have to push at the edges constantly because you never know when life would give in a little and open up new opportunities for you.
Coming out of your comfort zone involves trying new things, and making yourself push hard and become uncomfortable. But you gotta keep doing that to explore beautiful new destinations for yourself.

I grabbed this audiobook while I was working, and I'm so glad I did.
The narration of the story was done by Mr.Brown himself, and his voice is SO powerful. He talked about his triumphs, doubts, struggles, and journey to reaching all of his achievements. There was so much truth, and understanding in this story. When he talked about hard times you really felt it in his voice. This is why I love when memoirs are narrated by the author themselves.
Their personality always jumps off the page. When someone shows you their scars, and you can draw similarities from them its always inspirational to keep going in your journey. I loved this and recommend it to everyone.

I may be a little bias because Les Brown is one of my all time favorite motivational speakers, but overall if you're in the mindset anywhere else beside achieving your goals and being the best possible version of yourself then I recommend this book.

Highly heartfelt and inspirational set. "It's Not Over Until You Win!" It's all about failing forward fast. Make it okay to fail, at least you're moving forward in life into a better you direction. Resiliency is key. This inspired me to dream bigger, to get out of my comfort zone. Envision yourself with all the possibilities and potential you are capable of manifesting. Trust in a higher power. Believe in something greater than yourself. I wholeheartedly appreciated the personal obstacles in Les Brown's life that he shared with his audience, how he overcame them. We are able and willing to do the same. This message will help accomplish an ultimate dream.

This is my second Les Brown audiobook, and I am again empowered and feeling good about myself. He always deliveres a feeling of hope, a sense that things could be better, and that things should be better, that we deserve more, we should live more (and not be the living dead). The question is: what am I going to do with all this?

OK, I tend to be a self-help junkie, but this book is really empowering. He is a very positive guy who grew up in poverty in Miami with little formal education. If he can succeed, anyone can!

I loved listening to positivity and those who have had challenges but have risen above them and willing to share. It gives me strength and a reminder that no matter what I am going through I can get through it with GOD with me and the strength he gave me. I remind myself that no matter what I am feeling that there are others out there that are being challenged and may be struggling also and I am not alone no matter if my feelings try to convince me of that. Les Brown is an extraordinary strong man who I now put on my admire list. He had to face his struggle in the public eye and in my opinion he did it with integrity and grace. Many of us probably wouldn't have been able to pick themselves back up and move forward in life but Les did and for that, he has my respect and admiration. Thank you, Mr. Les Brown, for being open to sharing that no matter if things aren't as successful as you had hope just pick your self up, brush yourself off and keep moving through life because GOD has blessed you with this life and I have a mission to accomplish.

I enjoy listening to recordings of Les Brown, but the book didn't have as great a spark as he does in audio format until the last chapter of the book. I felt like much of it is an autobiography discussing how he overcame obstacles and how we can do the same. It is a good book, but the timing wasn't right for me to rate it higher. This could be a great book for someone at a low point in their life looking for reasons for hope.

The first half of this book is a bit dull, unless you read it as more of an autobiography. It picks up a lot in the second half. I think that Les Brown is amazing as a speaker and it doesn’t have the same oomph in writing, but this is his second book - I’m assuming his first is better. That’s doesn’t negate the good advice within - but I’d rather listen to the guy than read his writing. His voice and passion shine through more in spoken word, and he probably agrees! You gotta be HUNGRY!

While I love Les Brown, his stories, and the way he conveys meaning to get a person to actually THINK...I wish this book were more cohesive in its layout. As it stands, it just feels like someone pulled chunks from various speeches by Brown and cobbled then together into a book.
5 star thoughts/message, but an overall 3 stars for the choppiness between anecdotes. I think the book would've had more impact with a different editor.

A great and inspirational book to motivate you to achieve your dreams. I bought this book almost 20 years ago, and unfortunately let it gather dust! Wished I had read it twenty years ago! Although I am now retired, it has motivated me to achieve more in my retirement than so could dream possible. I highly recommend this book!

I enjoyed the affable Mr. Brown's reflections on failure and struggle. This was a great selection for the first day of the new school year. He is warm, funny, and down to earth. The audiobook notes mentioned that this was an abridged version of the book. I may have to check out the original.

Life is in phases of change like laughter, pain, challenges etc. Which are called the university of hard knock. Yet the most important of it remains how you let yourself get through it all (IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL YOU WIN) Les Brown illustrated this with a story of his life .

Quick read and good content. I’d reread it so it’s a 4 star. But it wasn’t some life changing ground breaking eye opener so it’s not a 5 star. I’d probably give it 4.5 if half stars were an option

When I tried to read “It’s Not Over Until You Win” as a self-help book, I felt very disappointed. But when I changed my perspective and read it as an autobiography, I enjoyed it as an interesting set of anecdotes of the life of a man who has overcome a lot of obstacles. Les Brown comes across as a loveable underdog who is easy to root for. His stories about his relationship with his mother, in particular, were very touching.

I don’t feel like I learned anything new in the category of self-help from this book. Published in 1997, this book is unsophisticated compared to other works in the self-help genre. The field of positive psychology has come a long way since 1997. The world has come a long way too. A lot of the anecdotes about the world of business seem out of date, and the relationship advice struck me as carrying some really backward gender stereotypes. (Men: “Tell her that she looks slim in that pair of pants.” Women: “Make sure you stock the fridge with his favorite food and beverages, and that you match together his socks.”)

Still, I enjoyed reading it – particularly the later chapters. Les Brown’s enthusiasm and warm-heartedness is contagious. Once I thought of this book as like a conversation with a likeable and admirable person who has led an amazing life in spite of odds against him, I became less concerned about “getting something” in terms of particular knowledge or mental tricks. All in all, this book was enjoyable and heart-warming, but not breath-taking or life-changing.

🐰 It was okay but it slogged on. I never felt engaged in Les Brown's life story and would have preferred just having the question sections from the book.
First Page Nibble:
🐰 In January of 1993, I was eighteen feet tall, emotionally, spiritually, and in cardboard too. As I descended an escalator to the convention floor of the National Association of Television Program Executives in San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center, I looked directly into the eyes of an eighteen-foot-tall cardboard version of myself on display to promote the new Les Brown Show.
