Transported back in time to revolutionary America, Ashley Wheeler is branded a Tory spy, and is soon the object of fascination for Doctor Aaron Kenneman, a steely-eyed man who is determined to find out what she knows
Lori Copeland was born on 12 June 1941. She had a relatively late start in writing, breaking into publishing in 1982 when she was already forty years old. Over the next dozen years, her romance novels achieved much success, as was evidenced by her winning the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, The Holt Medallion, and Walden Books' Best Seller award. She has been inducted into the Missouri Writers Hall of Fame.
Despite her success in more mainstream romantic fiction, in 1995, she decided to switch focus. Her subsequent books have been in the relatively new subgenre of Christian romance. She has also collaborated with authors Angela Elwell Hunt or Virginia Smith on a series of Christian romance novels.
Lori and her husband of over forty years, Lance, live in Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by the beautiful Ozarks. They have three grown sons, three daughter-in-laws, and six wonderful grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters. She and her husband are very involved in their church, and active in supporting mission work in Mali, West Africa.
When 21st century woman Ashley Wheeler runs outside from her job as a tour guide in an 18th century Boston museum to close the windows of her car, she slips, falls, and suddenly finds out she's been transported back in time to Revolutionary Boston. Accused of being a Tory spy, she is handed into the care of Dr. Aaron Kennerman. As the days go by and the patriots try to figure out what to do with her, Ashley finds herself falling in love with Aaron. Knowing she cannot change history, will Ashely find a way back to her time and the man who loves her? Or will she be stuck in the 1770's with a man she's fallen in love with?
I have to say that this is a cute book. I loved seeing history through Ashley's eyes. I loved too, how she came to appreciate exactly how much she loves the man she's engaged to by falling in love with Aaron. A blend of contemporary (really just a little) and historical fiction made this a very fast read for me.
I read this book for the cover of City Skyline in Book Cover Bingo.
This may not be the best historical romance in the history of the genre, but it holds a special place in my heart as the first I read that started an over 20 year passion. The story is very sweet, set against the days surrounding Paul Reveres ride in the Revolutionary War, with all the intrigue and danger therein. The heroine is a modern woman who falls and hits her head(how fabulously early 90's of the author)and is propelled back in time to a tavern holding a meeting of Colonial revolutionaries, where due to her strangeness, she is taken to be a British spy. There is movement, passion, and tears to be had in this book. I just love it!
What did I just read… what I mean is it’s a happy ending but here I am heartbroken 😭
you just know when you’re crying at the end of the book that what you’ve just come across was a masterpiece 🥹 I must say if only this book had a film adaptation it would’ve been a blockbuster for romcom lovers.
Now I’m gonna spoil a bit Ashley meets Aaron by travelling through time up to 1775 so they fall in love but Aaron dies and then she comes back by awakening from a coma to realise that her modern fiancée who she left because he was a busy doctor Joel is in fact Aaron because he looks like him. The problem for me is that I cannot get past through the death of Aaron 💔
The prologue and epilogue of the story handle the time travel aspect of the story soo well. I cannot believe the story was written in 1997 for how good it was. While reading you keep having this anticipation for what is going to happen next.
The female leads is very likeable though I must say male lead is a bit hard to like but the fact that he’s realistic makes up for it (I mean for not falling for fl because of a coup de foudre but gradually) and as the story progresses you get to like him too so it’s all good.
Overall for a 230 pages romance it was a very good read I recommend but be mindful of the spoiler I gave. If you have a sensible heart like me and « death » triggers you. You might want to prepare yourself before diving in.
P.S : I really want a TV adaptation for this 😮💨

A very cute, tongue-in-cheek time-travel novel with the beginning and ending of the book taking place in some celestial place. There were sections I laughed out loud, and other places that brought tears. Ashley Wheeler, after breaking her fourth engagement, is sent to 1775 America to learn a lesson. There she meets Dr. Aaron Kenneman and other patriots of the American Revolution. Though the men think she is a British spy, Ashley eventually wins their trust. She rides with Paul Revere on his famous ride through the night to warn the colonists that the British were coming, and she sees the opening shots of the war.
It's a trashy romance novel, so it's not the best in the world. Sometimes the writing is a little awkward, and the plot moves a little too fast, but it's nothing that deterred me from continuing to read it. However, I'm in love with the plot of "girl gets transported back in time; girl doesn't know what's going on; guy decides to take girl in; cue obvious love story" I love novels that incorporate history, too, so the fact that this took place during the American Revolution was also wonderful. Overall, I thought it was definitely worth the read, especially if you like the cheesy romance stuff.
