The Ridge Route has fascinated me because me grandparents traversed this road back in history and told me stories about it. My grandmother was originally from Tulare and after she moved to Los Angeles as a young woman and met and married my grandfather, they traveled over this road in their crank start car to visit the relatives.
They stayed at the Lubec Hotel on their honeymoon and this hotel is talked about in the book.
Another good local history book.

Not the best writing, but a very interesting history of a road I've driven by a zillion times. I even remember the old 99 connector, before the completion of I-5.
