Heidi

Rate this book
Johanna Spyri's classic story of a young orphan sent to live with her grumpy grandfather in the Swiss Alps is retold in it's entirety in this beautifully bound hardcover edition. Heidi has charmed and intrigued readers since it's original publication in 1880. Much more than a children's story, the narrative is also a lesson on the precarious nature of freedom, a luxury too often taken for granted. Heidi almost loses her liberty as she is ripped away from the tranquility of the mountains to tend to a sick cousin in the city. Happily, all's well that ends well, and the reader is left with only warm, fuzzy thoughts. Spryi's story will never grow wearisome--and this is a very appealing edition. --Naomi Gesinger

Heidi is an orphan girl, she has got a kind heart. Her fate put (peter the goatherd and his grandmother+ a disable girl called Clara Seasmann) in her life. She like to help people and make every one around her so happy.

She try to live with goats and pasture in Swizerland then she transfer to Frankfurt city, but homesick let her had sleepwalking and finally she return back again to Swizerland where thier a miracle happened to Clara when she visited her.

It's a wonderful story.

I recently mentioned to a friend that I had never read "Heidi" so she gave me this to plug the gap in my literary education, but knowing how many books I have in my to-read pile she thankfully decided to go for an abridged version. I think if I had read it when much much much younger I might have found it heartwarming rather than mildly nausea-inducing :-)

The world of Roald Dahl is amazing but of Johanna Spyri?Oh, great Johanna wrote many brilliant books.Heidi was going on the Alps to be with her grandfather. She also enjoyed with Peter and his grandmother till her life took a drastic turn. She had to go to her aunt Dete because she had found a new job in Frankfurt.Heidi had to be a companion with Clara Sesemann and her mother had died many years ago and she was living with Fraulein Rottenmeier At last she was free and she had returned to the Alps. She , can work the magic on It's wonderful.

A beautiful edition of the timeless classic Heidi aimed at a younger audience and enhanced with lovely colour pictures throughout it tells the tale of the little girl who goes to live with her hermit like grandfather in the Swiss mountains and brings happiness and charm to his life until Aunt Dete comes to take her back to live in the city to be a companion to another little girl called Clara who is disabled but Heidi finds she desperately misses home, her grandfather and friends.
A charming story for readers of any age.

This wonderful story delighted me as a child. I returned to it again and again and already have a copy for my son's growing library. Now if he'll just hurry up and learn to read. It's a sweet and charming story of a little orphan who is passed on from one relative to the next ending up with her grumpy grandfather. Heidi, of course, charms the old man and the whole nearby village as well and just makes everyone's life better. It's such a happy story.

Fun light reading, sweet descriptions of the Swiss mountains and the joys of a simple lifestyle and being a child in tune with the outdoors, but good grief, I didn't remember the preachy undertones - Heidi spends a fair amount of time praying and encouraging others to!

My 6 and 3 year old loved this book. They laughed out loud several times and several chapters instigated some great conversations about morals, judging others, having faith and hope and staying positive.

Alps, goats, and girlhood! What more could you want.

Also, dear Heidi is the namesake of the house I grew up in.
