Delightfully produced, but really, not fit for purpose. The amount of information on the actual buildings it covers is so minimal as to be useless for any understanding of their importance to the story of Shakespeare.
This short and informative guide to the dramatist and poet’s homes and those of his family by The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust includes a guide to the properties owned and maintained by the trust and a short biographical sketches of the Shakespeare’s home life and loves in Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding countryside in Warwickshire. With its genealogical table and chronologies of Shakespeare’s works and lifetime it’s a good introductory piece for Shakespearean studies.
This guide provides an introduction to Shakespeare's birthhouse, new house, Anne Hathaway's cottage and other sites that played a role in Shakespeare's life. The guide describes each site and the role it played in his life and how each location changed in the years since and makes for a useful introduction to the sites for those visiting.
This guidebook to all of the houses run by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust tells you about the various homes and also tells about the times when Shakespeare lived. Lots of pertinent illustrations and photos aid in this tale. An enjoyable, light guide.
A slim yet expansive guide providing an informative overview of Shakespeare. The title aptly reflects what is covered and the accompanying illustrations complement the text well. An appreciated guide that is useful beyond visiting the places mentioned.
This is an official guidebook to the Shakespeare related sites in Statford-upon-Avon. It is brief but provides good information on the buildings, furnishings, gardens, and area. The book features beautiful photographs and other illustrations, quotes, and maps. There are also a family tree and a chronology of Shakespeare and his times. I recommend getting this book and pursuing it as soon as possible if you visit Statford. The maps are helpful for planning where you want spend your time. It makes a nice souvenir after your visit.
This is a succinct overview which provides some basic facts about Shakespeare's life, the town he lived in, and his familial relationships. My only complaint was that it was too short, but then again, it is only meant to be a guide.
The official guide at the Shakespeare Birthplace museum, this short, beautifully illustrated book is a quick, fun read. As another reviewer mentions, it would be nice if it wasn't so short but it is very readable and one of the few guidebooks I actually finished during my trip to the UK!
