Dhami has published many retellings of popular Disney stories and wrote the Animal Stars and Babes series, the latter about young British girls of Asian origin. She lives in Cambridge, England with her husband and cats.

I have yet to rate a Magical Animal Fairies book below four stars (even if I'm rounding Lara and Erin’s books up, because Ashley’s was just that good). Although I don’t think this book had as strong a message as the previous two, the writing was still excellent overall. I adore Sue Mongredien as a writer. She always makes an effort to ensure that her writing is engaging, beyond just having a solid plot. In general, having a phoenix be associated with humour is such a unique concept! The way she set up Giggles having dominion over humour by having the girls tell jokes and laugh nonstop, which might only be slightly out of the ordinary for them, but just enough for readers to be like, ‘ummm, something’s definitely happening here’ was really well done in my opinion. Also, just little things like when one of the boys at the camp thought he saw a butterfly, but it was just Erin. (I don’t know why that’s not something that’s used more often.) Or when Rachel briefly described what flying felt like, because while the girls always get to turn into fairies, they never go into detail about what it’s like for them.
Erin’s characterization was really good too! She was funny, smart and overall a solid, memorable fairy character. Everyone give Erin her flowers for this dramatic, yet deeply unserious entry. (I would expect nothing less from a fairy whose main goal is to make people laugh.) That, and her tiny fairy binoculars. The entire scene of her spying on the goblins with them was the funniest thing ever. (If there was ever a book to write as a slapstick, it’s this one.) I also found her to be very clever. Using the fact that the boys thought she was a butterfly to her advantage by creating a few sparkles to send them on a wild butterfly chase was a brilliant idea. (The illustration for that scene on page 27 is one I will never forget; it was so beautiful!)
Speaking of illustrations, the art is definitely another point in favour of the book. Erin’s design is perfect, if not for the fuck ass vest. She’s already got feathers on her headband. Why does she need the vest too? Anyway, her colour scheme is great, I’ve always been a sucker for an ombré dress, and the gladiator sandals were a really nice touch. Plus, I love how the design complements her magical animal’s! Giggles was more orange and yellow with bits of red, while Erin was the opposite, and I couldn’t have designed them better myself. Moreover, Rachel and Kirsty look adorable! Kirsty’s outfit is more my style, but Rachel looks like Lily from Hannah Montana and I love that for her. (Her flower scrunchie is the cutest!)
I can’t end it here without talking about Rachel and Kirsty’s friendship. Kirsty is absolutely the funnier one out of the two of them, but she loves Rachel enough to laugh at her shitty jokes, which is perfectly in character for both of them. And having them link arms as they head back was the perfect way to end the book.
stellar commentary from yours truly: -Who drew Kirsty holding the camera like that, and why? -After Rachel’s ‘Scottsdales’ joke. - If the phoenix controls humour, why are these jokes so bad? -When that robin nearly killed Rachel by ramming its beak into her wings. - Further proof that birds are evil! -As soon as I read this line from one of the goblins, “Jack Frost is going to be so happy. He might even smile - imagine that!” (pg. 47) - Please, you can’t perform miracles.
The Magical Animal Fairies are the 11th series and represents different qualities in life, like humour and compassion. These magical animals are babies and still in training so sometimes they over-do their quality (or cause the opposite).
There are seven Magical Animal fairies and they are: Ashley the Dragon Fairy, Lara the Black Cat Fairy, Erin the Firebird Fairy, Rihanna the Seahorse Fairy, Sophia the Snow Swan Fairy, Leona the Unicorn Fairy and Caitlin the Ice Bear Fairy.
Despite the endless patience of the girls' parents in supporting their school holiday friendship, it's nice to see them get away for a change. This series is set at Adventure Camp which means we get to explore everything from Moonbows, to stalactites, to bird-watching towers. We liked the tunnels/waterfall best as a location and the funny joke inspiring firebird best from the animals.
There are seven special animals, Who live in Fairyland. They use their magic powers, To help others where they can. A dragon, black cat, firebird, A seahorse and snow swan, too. A unicorn and ice bear - I know just what to do. I'll lock them in my castle, And never let them out. The world will turn more miserable, Of that, I have no doubt.
Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic. Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies. On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon! If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!
I thought it was so funny because when the goblins fell over laughing and crying I couldn't resist laughing so hard. Because there is a lot of humor in it, especially because Giggles the Phoenix controls laughing power and joke power, so I thought it was too funny.
I like this book because the goblins are the funniest well the main characters are Kirsty and Rachel and Erin also the Phoenix named giggles this is why I think you should read this.
A classic from my childhood also just like Judy Moody :) Read it in 20 minutes :) Sometimes you sit down and read a childhood favorite rather than a thick book.
This is the third book in The Magical Animals Fairies series by the group of authors who go by the name Daisy Meadows. Our oldest and I have read most of the books in the various Rainbow Magic series and our youngest is just beginning to discover them now. This is a new series for all of us, so we are all taking turns reading these seven books independently.
As the series grows and grows, I'm pretty impressed that these authors can find new material. The plots are formulaic, but the various creatures are always new and different. I used to loathe these books, but they are quick reads and they helped to cultivate a love of reading within our girls and for that, I am grateful.
Two girls went to a picnic together, suddenly fairy called Erin the Firebird Fairy. The Fairy took the two girls to a monster house, there are many monters.A monster caught them ,they were very scard after the monster caught them. But the monster didn't catch the fairy. When the fairy saw,she use her wand to kill the monster she said "Turn the monster kill."When the two girl were free they were happy, then they wanted to find the fairy. After that, the two girls got back home, they live happily ever after.
Rachel and Kirsty are on a bird hunt, and they found a phoenix birds. Suddenly, a fairy appeared named Erin. They found out that a phoenix bird called Giggles, and he takes in and put out some laughter. The goblins ended up catching the phoenix when giggles set free.
I thought it was exciting. It only had one fairy, Erin. And the goblins stole Erin's pet, the phoenix. Two girls named Rachel and Kirsty helped her find the phoenix and almost at the end, Kirsty made the goblins laugh and laugh and laugh.
Erin's firebird was stolen by Jack Frost so Rachel and Kristy had to help her find it. Rachel and Kristy found the bird when they were bird watching at camp.
