Some doors are better left unopened. Join teenager Rebecca “Becka” Williams, her brother, Scott, and friend Ryan Riordan as they head for mind-bending clashes between the forces of darkness and the power of God. The Invisible Terror Collection brings together three fast-paced novels of the supernatural by bestselling author Bill Myers. The Haunting Becka and Scott’s greatest enemy is the owner of an occult bookshop. She is requesting their assistance, but helping to conduct a séance is out of the question. Is it really the spirit of a little girl who is haunting the old mansion in town … or something far worse? The Guardian Who wouldn’t welcome protection, guidance, and the path to enlightenment? But the “spirit guide” who claims to offer them to Becka’s friend Julie is sugarcoating a sinister lie—one that threatens to entangle them in the darkest deception of all. The Encounter When Krissi starts talking about receiving mysterious messages from an alien being, only Becka takes her seriously. More is at stake than anyone realizes, and Becka is up against one of her strongest and most frightening enemies yet.
Bill Myers was born into a Christian home, and although as a child he became bored with Christianity, he decided at the University of Washington quote, to "make God my boss." Ironically, at the University his worst subject was writing. He claims to have prayed, and said that he would be able to do anything for God, except write. Even so, he has become a prominent Christian writer, and has a large amount of successful books and films to his credit.
These books accurately depict what it means to have a relationship with Jesus and how this plays out with friends and family. The spiritual challenges are ratcheted up to a 10 for fictional drama, but the basics are there. Enjoyable read.
Zondervan has updated and re-released Bill Myers’ Forbidden Doors series in four, three-volume sets. The Invisible Terror Collection is the second book in the set. If you haven't read the Dark Power Collection, read that one first.
Book 4: The Haunting The Ascension Lady shows up at Becka and Scott’s door in the middle of the night, asking for Becka’s help in conducting a séance to speak with the ghost of a little girl trapped in the town’s “haunted house.” Scott throws the lady out, but Becka decides to check out the house to see if there is anything there. And when she sees a little girl, she wonders if the stories are true or if there is something worse going on.
Book 5: The Guardian Becka’s friend Julie is injured in a hit-and-run accident and thinks she went to heaven and met and angel. When she comes out of her coma, the Ascension Lady gives her a crystal and urges her to seek out the angel again. But Becka is worried that Julie’s angel isn’t a good one, but one of the bad. Can she help her friend before it’s too late?
Book 6: The Encounter Krissi has been receiving mysterious messages from an alien being. She knows that she is the chosen one, and Becka just wants to ruin everything. But when Krissy’s boyfriend Philip asks Becka for help and tells her how worried he is that there is something very dark going on, Becka decides to help, even though she knows this could be the most frightening experience yet.
This was another interesting volume. Book four picked up right where book three left off, and these next three stories read like one long book. Just as our characters are leaving the haunted mansion, Julie is hit by a car. Scott is mad at the Ascension Lady and plots his revenge via practical joke, which makes him useless as a help to what Becka is going through. Then Scott gets sucked into a video game addiction that also makes him useless to his sister. The stories mostly revolve around Becka, her friends, and the stuff they’re getting into.
This set of three stories really makes me think about how my attitude could affect my loving others when they need it. It’s a really powerful message everyone could benefit from. Great stories. Great message. Great wisdom. Loved it. If you’re looking for answers about using crystals to reach angels, talking with aliens or ghosts, read this book. It is filled with Godly wisdom on these topics that will give you entertainment and a little education too. Highly recommended.
I'm pretty sure I read one or two of these books in Jr High. These are addictive and each volume is short enough to be read in one sitting. Good truths, if the melodrama is sometimes a little high.
