To me, this book is the definition of a ‘hidden gem.’

I was expecting the usual melancholic Russian novel, but I was extremely surprised by the fact that the main character, Dvoekurov, is happy?! Though it is not a lighthearted or jolly story—in fact, quite the opposite—it takes place during the germination of the upcoming revolution, which causes many tumultuous events in the lives of the characters. Despite this, Dvoekurov manages to maintain an incredibly positive and modern attitude.
The philosophy in this book reflects my own personal views on life. It was fascinating to see that, a century ago, someone thought the same way I do today.
