This is an appallingly bad book. The Haunting of Borley Rectory is a fascinating subject in the historical annals of the paranormal. It’s a well-documented case. Harry Price’s fraudulent involvement is also well-documented. Marianne Forster, who seemed to be the focal point of the supposed paranormal activity has also been written about a lot. But Robert Wood takes Marianne as his central theme and proceeds to rip her reputation and personality to shreds. That she was a bigamist, a self-proclaimed fantasist and an adulterer is already known. But Wood’s judgemental ranting on her ‘vast sexual appetite’ and her extra-marital relationships make him sound more deranged than her!
Not the most well written book - the author comes across as pretty judgemental and derisive of other’s accounts. Only read this because my family has history with Borley and Marianne and I was curious despite everyone in my family telling me this book is rubbish lmao
