Aliens have taken over the world and have genetically manipulated humans so that some are born shifters. Sierra suffers a tragedy when her mate dies and given to his brother Jackel for protection. What Jackel doesn't know is that Sierra is a cougar shifter, which is the shifter most sought after by aliens which meant that Sierra was more sought after than all others and is a target for humans to hand over to the aliens for money.
I loved the characters in this story! Sierra has suffered a lot in her life but she can take care of herself, in fact she can kick ass, she is also witty and charming in the way she doubts her own worth. Jackal is extremely hot but you sometimes want to bash him over the head for some of the things that he said and some of the things that he didn't! Yet this is one of the things that made him very endearing to me. I particularly loved the way he tries to spoil Sierra even as she is perplexed by it.
This is a story full of love, loss and danger around every corner. A great red!

When I first started reading, I was a bit confused by the point of view. It is a little different. Once I figured it out, though, it was not a problem because I was so wrapped up in the story. This is an interesting twist on shifters. Aliens have invaded Earth and abduct people to do experiments on them, creating the Shifters.
Jackal is a great character. He never wanted to mate, but keeps his promise to his brother to protect Sierra. And Sierra is conflicted because she just lost her love, but her Cougar wants Jackal.
If you like steamy stories about Alpha males claiming their mates, I think you will like this one. This is the first in the Werescape series and I will definitely be reading more.
