This is a book about movement. The aim of this book is to allow you to objectively evaluate movement quality and to coach towards improvement thereof. To this end, I will offer a system—a taxonomy—that categorizes and describes all trainable movement. Secondly, I will offer a competency checklist for each category so that you can assess, according to fixed criteria, the execution of a given movement. The aim is to be as systematic as possible. The downstream effects of such an approach can be far-reaching. A taxonomy can provide a universal language for exercise professionals, allowing clear communication between coaches, trainers, and physical therapists. The intended outcome of each exercise will be readily apparent. Fixed criteria will standardize movement quality so as to lead us towards objective appraisal of movement performance.
