‘This comforting memoir will help us all feel less alone as we navigate the emotional turmoil of midlife’ Davina McCall, author of Menopausing
From the bestselling author of ‘Mum, What’s Wrong With You?’ comes a witty, compelling, honest and reassuring guide to living a magnificent midlife.
If I was removed from the hurly burly of these overwhelming days, I would be able to patiently and logically think it all through. To untangle this conundrum. I would be able to find the thing I had lost. Probably the most important thing I owned. My identity.
Tackling everything from empty nest, career reinvention, sex, marriage, brain fog, burnout, perimenopause and menopause this laugh out loud memoir is a pathfinder for women whose messy midlife rage caught them by surprise. With advice from experts, celebrities and personal stories, the book will help women feel less alone as they embrace this liberating and transformational new stage of life.
I enjoyed. It’s was a personal story of anecdotes from career and podcast regarding perimenopause for Generation X. Considering I am in a this category and know nothing about it I found it very informative in a light hearted, easy to listen to format. Recommend for any gen x’er who are wondering why things have changed and what we do about it :-)
I enjoyed this book. Was it a ground breaking read? No. Did it tell me anything that, as a woman in the Menopause, I wasn't already aware of? Not especially. Would I recommend it to friends of a similar age? Yes. It was like talking to a friend. Lorraine's writing style is friendly and accessible and not at all preachy. The main message is that if you are a woman in midlife and are feeling like you've lost your mojo then fear not - you are not alone. Some things to try; talk to your doctor about HRT, look after yourself in any small ways that you can and consider doing new things/ meeting some new people. And the one exercise that Lorraine suggests (it is not a book full of exercises on the whole - in fact, I think this might be the only one) is to write a list of 100 things that you love. I found it tricky to dig more up after 50 but, as Lorraine implies, these are the ones that get to the nub of what could actually make you happier.
This book should be given to all women!! Absolutely reassuring, funny, helpful, calming. First book I’ve read that’s helping me feel like me again. I grew up as a cosmo girl so to listen to Lorraine describe her experience not only resonated but also felt familiar. A gem of a book - highly highly recommend
To understand what we all women go through and have resources is amazing. I would share it with other women in this stage of life where as a chameleon we are coming out of our many skins.
