Elementi #2

Refining Earth

Rate this book

Starting a new school has its own set of obstacles, but finding out you’re the very weapon created by angels to defeat demons? Yeah… that comes with its own brand of crazy.

Now that the cat was out of the bag about me being Synergy, and the five sexy Elementi Knights by my side, I should be able to conquer anything life throws at me…right?

I wish midterms, family dinners, and travel plans could be my only focus like any normal college student, but when Brayden invites me home for Christmas break and Micah decides to tag along, I have even more things to work out.

To put the cherry on top, newfound powers have turned the dial on my emotions–and a few other things–all the way up. Turns out, that makes demons the least of our worries in this household.

With a relaxing winter break out of the question, I’m left to navigate new relationships, learn about the demonic world, and figure out how to be the very weapon curated to stop our enemies.

At least this life altering situation came with five hot guys. What more could a girl want?

Uh oh

Excellent follow up book for the series. I love it. Highly recommend and am very much looking forward to reading the next book.

Characters:

▪︎Lailah - synergy, human, came to school on scholarship,

° Jay - air, runner, dosen't talk much but shows he cares through actions

° Brayden - earth, loving, sweet, white knight syndrome

° Hudson  - water, nerdy and bases things on logic and being rational

° Micah - fire, didn't want to be Elementi or to be bonded, standoffish and abrasive, nightmares

° Parker - spirit, prankster,

• Cami - bff, raised with the guys, mystery surrounding why she left school last year and returned when Lailah did

• Beth - den mom and overseer of all things Elementi for the Manor House guys

Spoioers and Speculation:

Governess poisoning Brayden's mom? If so, why? Maybe governess gave evil the location for the sledding incident attack.

Brayden's mom or governess possibly possessed?

How deep into the Elementi is the corruption and who has the Day-Brite serum? Is Jay's father aware or working against thr Elementi?

fantastic

Loved this book, the suspense and twists were perfection.
Love the characters and the push/pull between them.
The unknown element about the demons is fascinating, adding in the bonding between the Elementi makes for a fantastic read.

Wow, I have to say I am in love with this series. I was really looking forward to this second book and it did not disappoint. I found it even better then the first.

In this second book we pick up at the end of book 1 where Lailah has just been attacked by a demon and has come into her powers. In this next book, we find out that Lailah is their "synergy" and what that means for her and everyone in the group. There are a ton of growing pains as they all navigate this new world as a team. We also get to meet a new faces and get a few questions answered. Can't wait for book 3!

Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.

Elizabeth Knight is a new author for me and after reading two of her books I knew she was going to be an author I liked. After reading Refining Earth, the second book in the Elementi series I can now say she is an author I am hooked on. This book was amazing, it was so good, I couldn't put it down and I didn't want to. I read the entire book in one day and was (make that still is) sad that the story is over, the wait for the next book is gonna be torture.

Lailah finally knows the truth about the boys and about herself, they are warriors put on earth to save the human population from demons. It takes some adjusting to and I got to give Lailah credit, things are overwhelming but she expresses her feelings, she asks questions, and then she puts on her big girl panties and does what needs to be done. Lailah does have hiccups along the way and things are far from perfect but she is trying and she is making a difference. Lailah is powerful and smart and she uses her intuition in situations, she contributes to the group.

So this is a reverse harem and the guys in Lailah's harem are great. I love the guys, Brayden, Parker, Hudson, Jay, and Micah all have different personalities but all give Lailah something she needs, they support her (even if one is a jerk a good chunk of the time) and is giving her time to adjust to her new life. They also don't sugar coat things for her, while they are protective they treat her as a full member of the team and I love that.
The story was fantastic, I couldn't help but laugh through this entire book, of course, there were serious moments and steamy moments but Elizabeth put in just as many funny moments if not more. I love to laugh while reading, if a book can make me laugh that much then I am in book heaven, I'm hooked. I loved getting to know more about how the Elementi worked throughout the world and seeing how the guys interact with their families was interesting. The dynamics of who knew what, what the non-powered members got up to was all very good.

Refining Earth was an excellent read, I highly enjoyed the story. It was filled with elemental powers, demon attacks, crazy friends, hot guys, secret societies and so much more. I laughed out loud and had a fabulous time reading it. This book has made Elizabeth Knight one of my favorite new authors and I can't wait to see where she takes the series next.

Holy Crap!! Fan Freakin Amazing! Seriously though if you haven't read the first book in this series get on to that stat. The MC Liliah has an inner strength missing from so many RH books. The Harem is perfectly balanced and the intamacy between them is slowly added in so she only has smexy times with one in this book but the friendship with the others grow. I'm loving seeing the different sides to the guys especially micah can't wait to find out what happens next in this series and where it will go from here. So excited to see where this author goes from here. A MUST READ BOOK & SERIES... get to it!!

3 Still Undecided Stars

I’m still really unsure how I feel about this book. The plot line is still fairly weak and very ‘tropey’. The relationships feel really uncomfortable and forced. The character development has progressed slightly, but it’s also still pretty flimsy.

Most of these guys seem to only “want” FMC because they’re supposed to since she’s Synergy, and not because they’re in love. One of the guys is absolutely awful and I have no idea how the author plans to redeem him. The guy actually rejects the FMC’s bond, even though he plans for it to only be a temporary rejection….it rubs me all wrong.

I’m not sure I even like our FMC to be honest. She is pretty annoying and her constant self doubt and self pity is really wearing on me. I’m also starting to get the feeling that she is going to turn into one of those TSTL females who constantly run into danger and put everyone at risk. Luckily we aren’t quite there yet.

I’m very much undecided about where I stand with this series.

- 👀 Multiple, first person POV
- 📖 Urban Fantasy RH - Academy
- 🤓 Tropes: Chosen one, Clueless FMC, MMC's "Kings of the School," Fated Soul Mates, Reluctant & grumpy mate
- 🧁 Sweet, naive, innocent, passive/peaceful, clueless FMC
- 🌎 4/5 World-building Stars
- ⭐️ 3/5 Plot-line Stars
- 🥸 3/5 Character Development Stars
- 👥 Mates: 5 men, elementi "warriors" and college students
- ♥️ 2/5 Romance Stars (FMC has bonded with one mate, but it feels really forced)
- 🌶 2.5/5 Spicy Stars (two NA type sex scenes)
- 🍒 Virgins: None, but FMC is very virginal
- 🔥 Slow/Medium burn
- 🚫 No MM, No OW, No Cheating, No harem bullying
- ‼️ Triggers: mean girl bullying

I’m really enjoying the slow build nature of this series, which is allowing the relationships between Lailah, the FMC, and her five guys to grow and deepen naturally. Nothing feels rushed and the connections are there, along with growing pains and still getting to know each other vibes. My favorite guy is Jay, but I truly enjoy reading about each of the guys, even when they may be frustrating. I also love Lailah as an intelligent and protective FMC, finding her new place in the world.

The plot is also developing at what feels like a natural pace considering the FMC is new to their world, having powers, and fighting demons. There is steam in this second book after the first was a slow burn and Ms. Knight doesn’t disappoint with the steamy scenes.

This book ends on an informational cliffhanger that’s leading into the villain’s evil plans. I’m looking forward to continuing this series and how this group will continue to build not just on their relationships with Lailah, but also working together as a team to defeat their enemies. Character growth is my jam and this series is setting up some wonderful aspects of this.

Amazing sequel

Wow. This book was intense. That’s the only word to cover it. I adored the addition to the series and I have to say the world-building in this is amazingly intricate. It’s so, so detailed and it makes it so much easier to connect with the characters and the story.

I’m in love with Lailah and her guys. They’re amazing. I love that they’re not all great friends despite their bond to Lailah and I love witnessing them bond with each other and her. So many RH stories don’t show this - the guys are always the best of friends - and this one does. I can’t wait to see how things develop with the relationship. Micah... just more of him, please. I adore him.

Elizabeth’s an amazing author and I love her work. Roll on book three, because I can’t wait to see where she takes this! I highly recommend the series but please start with book one.

I'm getting more and more into this story! Let's talk about character development, people!Lailah started off as this innocent, kinda clueless girl, and now she's on her way to be a badass mf.
Also,.the relationships are building, finally lol. Be warned, though: it's slow for a RH. She doesn't have a romantic relationship with all the guys, yet. And in this book I missed Hudson,.poor guy was forgotten. I guess the next he'll be more.explored. my favorite is still Micah! I'm looking forward to seeing the other guys getting physical also.
I was kinda sad that Jay had already watched the others with OW, but what can a girl.do right?
One thing that is confusing sometimes.is the way the demons.appear. Liek when she was watching Supernatural and suddenly it all changes and I couldn't say if she was dreaming or.if it was actually happening.

I'm moving on to the next

Hold the Press.

This author could be talking about today's world.. The characters are true to life and human. They have problems and life situations that almost every teenager goes through. The story is a little hard to get through but its the author that created it so kudos to her and her imagination. Keep writing this kind of story and I'll keep reading anything you write. That's very rare for me. I also read well into the early morning hours and I also have my addiction of sparkling water, no iced coffee. I read romantic fiction and I have read this story before, I read it again because I read it the first time too fast. This time I took my time, because lets be honest this is not a race. I liked the story before but this time I loved it. Keep up the good work.

Great Series

I am enjoying this series so much. Some parts are predictable but not annoyingly so, and there's still some plot points that are surprising.

My main issue with this installment is how naive and oblivious Lailah is. Early in the book multiple characters make reference to her bonding the 5 elementi, they don't out right spell it out for her but it's not particularly ambiguous. She doesn't pick up on any of this for a good chunk of the book.

She also seems to be incredibly forgiving. Voyeurism is cool if that's your thing but everyone involved should be aware and have consented.

So this baby picks up right where book 1 Discovering Synergy left us. This is a quick read and super easy to get into. It is a SLOW burn. I'm headed into book 3 and we have only "bonded" with one of our male friends.

The spice is minimal for now I am hoping it picks up and there are more scenes with there hoping to be 5 men in the harem.

It's an excellent idea of a story and the plotline keeps you reading.

I HATE Jay's dad and Brayden's family au'paire screw both of them.

I cannot believe the ending. It wasn't a terrible cliffie but I'm in the story enough that I'm like NOOOO they cant be gone!!!

Unpolished

This was better than the first book but it desperately needs a content editor. The while book is a study in telling, not showing. There are typos that are quite distracting. At one point, there's a chapter from Jay's perspective and in the middle of a paragraph he's petting Micah's hair. I was so confused. Turns out that was a snippet from one of Lailah's chapters a little bit later. The story itself is fairly interesting, if not very unique. I think the author will be quite good with more experience, but right now this series is a bit too green and unpolished for me. I won't be continuing.

A great pnr that has a familiar feeling storyline but differs from others with a slow burn Harem that don’t all fall like dominoes and a heroine that doesn’t just hop into bed with every single one.
The story plot stays consistent and interesting throughout the book meaning that it’s easy enough to follow - even being written from many points, they are blended seamlessly to keep you from getting confused.

A well written book with a great ending that leaves you wanting more and waiting for the next instalment!

Refining Earth picks up the morning after the vents at the end or Discovering Synergy. Laila is trying to process what all these changes mean for her and trying to learn about her new role and powers. I really loved seeing the relationship between Micah and Lailah develop and I. Loved g Jay. I kind of wish we had seen more of Lailah and Parker. I also loved that we got to meet the guys families. Off to download no 3 :)

Why...

It was forgivable that some of the characters in book 1 were one dimensional but this is taking it too far. Do we really need to know what every building looks like? Do we need a reminder of the story every couple of chapters? It didn't build any of the characters it just got annoying.

No just no.

2 stars because I did read book 1 and soldiered on for about 40% on this one then started skipping pages just to get to the end.

3.5

While I'm enjoying this series, and the plot is progressing, I can't give 4 or 5 stars when she's only bonded with 1 of 5 guys. It's the end if book 2 and we still have 4 more guys that need to bond to her. Brayden is getting plenty of attention while the rest are being left in the dust. My concern is that the other guys won't get the same time and consideration, and I really don't like that in harem situations.
I guess we'll see if I'm right or wrong.....

Phenomenal

The flow from book 1 into 2 was perfect. The trials each warrior had to go through in life to get where they are now. Lala came into their world and is getting a crash course while trying to unite the group but finds out there are traitors in the mist? Where to go from there? What must they do next?

Great continuation of the first book. More details and drama and loved the friendship that formed with Lailah and Cami. They are like each others yin and yang. Its really fun to read their banter and add in the history and the yummy men, I mean what more could you ask for. Highly recommend this series.

This book 2 in the Elementi series continues Lailah and her men's story. The fight with Evil is heating up. Can Lailah and the guys defeat the opposing forces and will they ever bond? Read Defining Earth and find out. Once again Elizabeth Knight keeps us coming back for more. Can't wait until the next in the series.

Loved it!

I loved how it was fast paced enough but the getting to know each other was slow enough to be believable. I love reading about her mini relationships with each of the guys, I do wish there was more male povs than what was written but it was a great read regardless.
