I have served 53 years in pastoral ministry in three denominations, seven years of which was as a District Executive Minister or as many of your call it a District Superintendent. As an overseer of 52 churches and 75 pastors I was in the throes of pastoral care to pastors and their families, as well as conflict resolution in churches. With few exceptions, most of these conflicts surrounded discontent with pastoral performance or personality. It was a grinding task. Five decades of being in such diverse pastor positions has brought me some knowledge and wisdom about what it means to “pastor masterfully.” This book does not cover all the things it means to be a pastor. Nor does it claim to be information that will fit everyone or fix anyone. It is simply practical experience woven into my words of wisdom gained in the valleys and on the mountain tops of congregational ministry.
