Koyou introduces treatment of pneumonia and appendicitis to a culture without advanced medicine, and dealing with what we know call the Hippocratic oath, do no harm, and the ethics of treatment.
As beautiful as the art is, the panels are repetitive, without much creativity in the layout, which can get a little boring. Need more close ups of the garden and medical supplies to create depth and visual intrigue on the page.
This is a very cute casual series, hoping the rest will be at the library.

Oh my goodness, this volume was even better and funnier than the first volume!!
I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
I've been eagerly anticipating the time when I could sit down and read this volume this week since it's been very high on my TBR. And let me just say, this volume did NOT disappoint!
While the doctor aspect of this series has been upped even more than before, I continue to find it really interesting! Koyou is a wonderful doctor, but she really is VERY eccentric, making this series title extremely spot on! But yes, her doctoring I find very well explained but without taking away from the actual plot. I didn't find anything to be graphic or nauseating even if I do feel bad for her patients when she's like I'm going to "snip-snip." LOL! I agree with Shin in that, yes, she's telling the truth to her patients, BUT! There is a much better way to go about telling patients these things. LOL!
I'm still surprised that for the lack of romance, I'm still having a blast and enjoying what I hope will be a slow burn at some point! Seeing Keiun and Koyou go on a side adventure together was EVERYTHING because I laughed SOOOO much!! My favorite part is when Koyou is trying to get over the wall and Keiun fails in helping her to get over so she tells him, "Master Keiun, your lack of muscle shows. Try working out more!" BAHAHAHAHAHA! He of course is offended, but it makes the situation no less funny! LOL!
I am VERY excited to read more in this story! It's such a joyful and very interesting read and definitely can't wait for the next volume's release!! It seems things centering around her latest patent will be intense and curious as to what is going to happen with the sect (which we learn more about in this volume)! Highly recommend!

Koyou is still funny!! This volume wasn't as good in terms of pacing, but I'm so interested in the beginnings of medical procedures and the palace drama that's going on.

The story is moving along for sure. In some sense it has some similarities to the apothecary diaries series but this one we see the MC actually doing surgeries and all that stuff. The prince in the story is disguising his real identity too.
But it’s interesting cause they’re dealing with science vs believing in the divine (to heal from death etc).
The MC is 15 (soon 16) which explains her childish and out going behaviour. She seems pretty immature but when it comes to diagnosing and doing surgeries, she’s serious.
It’s light hearted and funny, but the MC’s personally is a little annoying 😅

This volume definitely showed a bit more of the political side of things and it was very interesting to see all of the potential candidates that would be future antagonists in the story. I really liked seeing Koyou’s father briefly and his statements made me wonder what exactly his daughter’s flaw is in terms of her medical practice. I also really liked seeing Koyou go on her medical rants a bit more and seeing her attempt to defend Shin.
I’m very curious to see what plays out in this next volume since Koyou had to do a very important surgery.

Ce manga est souvent comparé aux Carnets de l'apothicaire mais on se concentre vraiment sur la médecine pure. Les perso se révèle un peu plus, et ça reste franchement drôle par moment. Par contre Koyo faudrait penser à avoir un peu d'empathie avant d'ouvrir les gens avec plaisir pour les opérer. Vraiment la go est super enthousiaste et joyeuse mais elle cache un petit manque de compassion

Un 2e tome que j’ai trouvé très sympa et passionnant. Notre héroïne n’a peur de rien et elle est bien décidée à prouver de quoi elle est capable ! Dans un sens, elle me rappelle Mao Mao des Carnets de l’apothicaire. Sauf que Koyô ne résout pas des enquêtes, mais sauve des vies avec une façon assez moderne qui surprend son entourage. Elle est remarquée par le prince héritier qui compte bien se servir de ses compétences dans ses projets politiques. À voir avec la suite comment tout ça va se développer.
Les dessins sont très beaux avec une mise en pages claire et aérée. Dans l’ensemble, je ne me suis pas ennuyée et j’ai tourné les pages avec plaisir.

Une petite sortie récente pour changer un peu des titres sortis depuis un petit moment, ça vous dit ? J’achète bien moins souvent en neuf de mon côté, donc j’ai moins souvent de nouveautés à proposer également, heureusement, ma sœur continue d’avancer elle. La série avance tout doucement que ce soit en termes de publication ou d’intrigue. Les récits à la cour s’enchaînent, mais se ressemblent-ils tous ?
C’est un peu la mode du moment avec les récits se déroulant à la cour impériale. On pourrait donc croire qu’ils se ressemblent tous et pourtant, chacun des titres (pour ceux que j’ai lu), abordent ce lieu de manière différente. Quand bien même certains thèmes sont récurrents, comme les messes basses et magouilles des personnes de la cour, pour l’instant, chaque série arrive à proposer quelque chose. Pour remède impérial, on pourrait dire qu’elle se rapproche plutôt des Carnets de l’apothicaire, même s’il y a encore une différence. Dans cette série, les soins sont prodigués majoritairement par des prêtres. Se sont donc des soins religieux, spiritueux plus qu’autres choses. Même si ses soins s’appuient en partie sur la médecine en utilisant des plantes en communs, cela reste assez aléatoire côté résultat. Mais bon, ils ont évidemment la bonne excuse : si ça ne marche pas c’est que vous n’êtes pas assez croyant, à la bonne heure ! Notre protagoniste est donc une médecin, plus poussée que ne le serait un apothicaire, puisqu’il y a aussi beaucoup de chirurgie. Là où Mao Mao des carnets de l’apothicaire, s’appuie essentiellement sur les plantes et je n’ai pas vu d’opérations pour l’instant. Les carnets d’apothicaire sont dans une vision historique avec une certaine fidélité concernant les méthodes de l’époque. Tandis que Remède Impérial se détache de cet aspect, ne gardant d’historique que les vêtements et certaines coutumes. Côté science et médecine, c’est donc une vision plus avancée qui est proposée.
Seul point communs à tous ses titres, la protagoniste a souvent un grain et c’est aussi souvent une protagoniste. Pour le coup, je trouve l’idée de Remède impérial plutôt bonne, pour rendre plus intéressante la chirurgie. Surtout qu’elle est un peu « adaptée » à l’époque malgré tout niveau matériel ou plantes utilisés. Je doute juste qu’un bout de tissus sur la bouche suffise à éviter les contagions (surtout vu tout le foin qu’on nous a fait durant la covid). Comme souvent aussi dans ce genre de récit, l’appendicite est présente mais mal soignée (il faut dire qu’encore aujourd’hui, des personnes en meurent, même en France). Le fait de considérer le corps comme sacré est également présent, ainsi la chirurgie est assez mal vue, tout comme la dissection. C’est malheureux à dire, mais si des médecins n’avaient pas fait de dissections de manières illégales, la médecine aurait évoluée plus lentement. On en serait peut-être même encore à soigner tous les maux avec des saignés ! Les médecins étaient des charlatans fût un temps (ce qui me fait donc un peu rire quand ils traitent d’autres pratiques de charlatanismes). Le prince commence à se servir de notre médecin afin d’acquérir de nouveaux alliés, mais il doit faire attention car le culte soignant par le miracle est très puissant et présent au palais. J’imagine qu’avec l’avancée de l’histoire, celui-ci finira par perdre en crédibilité, mais sans se laisser faire pour autant. Notre protagoniste pourrait donc se retrouver en danger, tout comme les autres personnages. Les faiseurs de miracles ne deviennent pas puissants de manière légale, mais bien en manipulant et en éliminant la concurrence.

La mode des récits dans une cour impériale est belle et bien lancée. Remède impérial est celui de Kurokawa et je dois dire que j'aime bien ce qu'il dégage.
Nous avons la même dynamique que d'habitude avec un membre de la cour, ici un Prince, et une sachante, ici une médecin surdouée, mais je trouve l'ensemble plus léger, facile à suivre et entraînant que Les Carnets de l'apothicaire, pour ne pas le citer.
La personnalité de Koyo est sûrement plus simple mais plus dynamique. Elle m'amuse énormément avec sa passion pour la dissection et la chirurgie, qui donne froid dans le dos à ses contemporains. Il n'y a surtout pas d'ambiguïté entre elle et le Prince, ce qui fait un bien fou, car ras-le-bol de mettre de la romance partout. Du coup, on peut mieux se concentrer sur les histoires.
Celles-ci sont un bon mélange d'ambitions politiques et de médecine. Dans ce tome, la rencontre avec la patiente souffrant d'une appendicite qui est en même temps la fille d'un potentiel allié politique pour le Prince résume bien cela. On a donc une Koyo sur tous les fronts pour la soigner, alors qu'à l'époque c'est plutôt l'ésotérisme que la science qui l'emporte, et un Keiun jamais très loin pour lui prêter main forte.
Ça se lit tout seul. C'est pétillant, entraînant, à l'image des héros. Les histoires sont faciles à suivre. Les dessins jolis et les personnages amusants à suivre. On a vraiment des lignes intéressantes sur la médecine, même si c'est peut-être parfois un brin anachronique ici. C'est en tout cas un divertissement des plus efficaces.

Talk about a working vacation! Soon after their arrival to the Moon Flower Kingdom, Koyou and friends are quickly put to work, caring for patient accidental and intentional and getting themselves into trouble tracking down hard-to-find ingredients for Koyou's practice. Unbeknownst to Koyou, she's placed herself smack in the middle of a web of political and religious intrigue - on one side, hidden (to her) Prince Keiun and his belief in her abilities, and on the other the mysterious Stem Sect and their reliance on the gods. With everything riding on Koyou's reputation, will she be able to pull off a medical miracle? Or are her efforts dead on arrival?
Naturally, there's no rest for the wicked in Koyou's life as a doctor, and as she settles in for what promises to be a VERY long stay at court (if Keiun gets his way), we get to learn more about per precocious skills (as a reminder, this is a teenager we're talking about) and get even more questions regarding what her role could be as a foil to the religious sect that seems to be running things. The court intrigue ramps up to an extent here, and we are left on quite the cliffhanger with Koyou's skills being put to the text. I thought the medical descriptions, and especially a conversation around consent were EXCELLENT, and I can't wait to see what other medical mysteries the gang gets their hands on!

This second volume definitely doubled down more on the medical aspect of the story while still having enough political intrigue to keep you guessing on that side of the plot.
Koyou continues to be a brave, bubbly and blunt character—which I love about her. I can’t help but adore her. Especially when she makes comments like “a simple snip-snip.” when talking to a patient about potentially cutting over their stomach.
Also, the scene where Keiun and Koyou go on a little adventure to find Coca leaf and she is trying to get over the wall but Keiun fails in his attempt at helping her, so her response is of course… “Master Keiun, your lack of muscle shows. Try working out more!” I’m sorry I just couldn’t help but laugh.

Koyo is really something. Ich mag die Kreuzung aus Medizin und Humor sehr, und es scheint auch ein wenig Mystery um die Krone zu geben. Bin sehe gespannt, ob Intrigen zum Vorschein kommen. Die Charaktere sind sehr witzig - v.a. Koyo - aber irgendwie sind sie für mich noch nicht tiefgründig genug. Vielleicht auch, weil momentan sehr viel passiert, man viel neues kennenlernt und eine Sache auf die nächste folgt. Ich hoffe, das ändert sich im Laufe der Bände, weil ich sehe viel Potenzial, dass ich die Charaktere lieb gewinnen kann. Bin auf jeden Fall super gespannt auf Band 3, da darin wohl die Operation stattfindet. Nur why haben wir einen einem dreimonatigen Rhythmus bei der Veröffentlichung wenn es in Japan doch schon über 10 Bände gibt 😭

Secte et mystères
Koyo est toujours sous le charme de la capitale, mais surtout sous le charme d’avoir une nouvelle patiente.
Mais alors qu’elle soigne la petite fille des rues, on dirait bien que le prince héritier a de grands plans pour elle.
Toutefois, les cartes sont rebattues lorsque la fille d’un noble tombe malade. Aucun remède ni aucune incantation ne semble fonctionner. Le père s’en remet alors à la secte des racines…mais cela aura-t-il vraiment un effet?
Koyo va-t-elle arriver à sauver la jeune femme?
On voit l’intrigue se former petit à petit et les personnages se placer dans l’histoire. L’humour est encore un peu trop forcé pour moi et j’espère que les personnages gagneront en profondeur, mais je crois que l’histoire a du potentiel.
Curieuse de voir la suite.

On voit l’intrigue se former petit à petit et les personnages se placer dans l’histoire. L’humour est encore un peu trop forcé pour moi et j’espère que les personnages gagneront en profondeur, mais je crois que l’histoire a du potentiel.

This manga artfully balances comedy and medical jargon, which is fun. I'm incredibly fascinated by the arc starting here regarding the religious cult, which reminds me of the crème de la crème of Yona of the Dawn arcs. And the art is absolutely gorgeous and stunning!
However, as a historian, it does upset me that the manga looks down on historical medical practices and knowledge as lowly, inferior, and even laughable, when there are likely just as many things in our modern medicine that in a few centuries will be hilariously outdated. While I was not in any way expecting historically-accurate medical practices, the feeling of superiority upon people of the past, who led the very practices we use today, frequently takes me out of the story.

Le héros ressemble beaucoup à Jinshi des carnets de l’apothicaire, mais c’est le seul point en commun. Pas mal de vocabulaire médical encore. Koyo est trop mignonne et me fait bien rire. Je ne pense pas continuer comme d’habitude parce que je ne suis pas suffisamment accrochée pour acheter les tomes suivants au prix des mangas aujourd’hui.

こようちゃんはサイコパスかな？ちょっと善と悪の区別のはできないみたい。天才なんだけど常識が足りない。まーそれは多くの天才だけど。すごく頭いいの人の半分以上は善と悪の区別するの感覚は鈍い。フロイドとかフーコーとかニーチェとかは全員頭すごくいいんだけど非道徳的な人生を生きていた。人が頭いいときに他の人の意志を無視することが多い。頭がいいから、他の人のやるべきことはその人より分かっていると思って、その人から選ぶ権利を奪うの。今の世界も同じことをやっている人が多い。

great art, interesting story so far. definitely if you're a fan of the apothecary's diaries, you'd probably be a fan of this. i'll definitely be picking up the next volume after this.

The story of Koyou's efforts and all to convince the vice minister's daughter for surgery is interesting to follow. Not to mention the interactions when sneaking around also make me laugh. Can't wait for Koyou who will do surgery again in the next volume.

Okay, this is growing on me. I would still like a little more interiority from most of the characters, but it’s a fun medical mystery and I’m liking the political hints.
