Questions Jesus Asked: A Six-Week Study in the Gospels

Rate this book
What does Jesus want to know about us?

Jesus was fond of asking questions, many of which cut right to the heart of what it means to be human. Why are you terrified? What do you live for? Who do you say that I am? In Questions Jesus Asked, author Magrey deVega explores six of the most provocative questions Jesus posed to others and guides us in answering them for ourselves.

Asking these questions takes courage. Not only do they reveal what Jesus really cares about, they open a window into our hearts. We all have questions for God, but growth happens when we turn things around and ask what Jesus wants to know about us. When we dare to raise them, these questions bring us a fuller appreciation for the wisdom, power, and presence of God in our lives. Are you willing to step out in faith? Are you ready to answer the questions Jesus asked?

The book can be read alone or used by small groups, and can be used anytime throughout the year. Additional components include video teaching sessions featuring Magrey deVega, and a comprehensive leader guide, making this perfect as a six-week group study done throughout the year.

I really enjoyed this book. Looking deeply into six of the most provocative questions Jesus posed to others we find these questions are also addressed to us and plaque us throughout our lives. (EX: Why are you terrified? What do you live for? Why are you anxious? What are you looking for?) Reflecting on these questions, examining our own hearts, and seeking what Jesus wants to know and wants us to know cuts to the heart and takes courage. These questions remind us of God's power and presence in our lives. The true answers lie in him but we need to be reminded to seek him above all else.

I read this book for my women's Bible study at my church. This is not a book to read fast. It's a take your time, read slowly, and think about what you read book. Each chapter is devoted to one question that Jesus asked his disciples. I must say, it really made me think about what I believe about Jesus. I also liked that each chapter had a corresponding video in which the author, Magrey R. deVega expounded on each chapter's question. I would seriously think about reading this book for Bible study at your church.

This book presents some new perspectives, and explains certain passages based on the time period in which it was written. For example, the Golden Rule should actually say do unto others what they would want you to do to them.
Turn the other cheek doesn't mean what we have always understood it to mean. He offers a detailed explanation why it is not inviting more violence but rather a way to maintain your self respect.

I've heard nothing but positive responses to my small group Bible Study's reaction to this book. Many of the chapters hit out hearts close to home - especially living in a time of fear and anxiety. The Whom Will You Love chapter also generated excellent and provoking conversation.

I read this book as part of a small group study but it is a wonderful book for also an individual spiritual inventory, to be brought more than once to gage how you are progressing on your faith journey. I definitely recommend this.

I'm appraoching the age where these books tend to be more of a reflection on my life than an opportunity to think about how I might change or do something new in the future. And yet I did appreciate the questions that were asked and Magrey DeVega's interpretation of them.

Good “Jesus questions” thoughtfully posed and personally pondered by the author. I finished this book pleasantly reflective and inspired to keep stretching my theological circle. Our teachers of Old Bonebrake Seminary would be proud. Bravo, Magrey!

A great look at the questions Jesus asked. It puts the questions in the context of its time and how we can ask the questions of ourselves today.
