The absolute assholery of the “hero” is breathtaking. He turns down the heroine for months? Years? I’m not quite sure how long, but a long time. Many people have pointed out to him that she loves him and he appears to have feelings for her, and he blows them all off. Then after she gives up (and good riddance in my opinion), then all of a sudden he is luuurve and can’t live without her?! What a dick.
The brother is an absolute asshat. I’m afraid the author is going to try to rehabilitate him in a future book. I just want him dropped in a nest of vipers to experience a painful death. Fuck him.
The evil girlfriend of the brother is rather over-the-top and so obviously the source of the mysterious illness that it’s buffonish.
And my constant complaint about grammar, etc. The author has no idea where to put commas, or where not to put commas. And for god sakes, I so, so wish she would learn how to correctly conjugate things like “she and I,” or “myself and I” etc. I’ve been plowing through her backlist and it just pisses me off more and more. Does she not have an editor? Or not use Word’s grammar function?! The many errors in the book are highly distracting and annoying.
I like this author, I really do, but this was tedious. It touched on just about every pet peeve I have. A TSTL heroine that kept repeating how much stronger she is than people think, but was to afraid to shirk tradition, was constantly apologizing, and she'd tears way too often. An alpha that wouldn't take/claim his mate until their backs were up against a wall. Constant misunderstandings and misinterpretations. I almost gave up at about 50%, but it took a turn for the better, saved by the humor and finally getting rid of the antagonist female that was more caricature of a villain than an actual villain. Moving on.
DELICIOUSLY CUTE AND DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING !!! Title: Awakened by the Vampire Prince Bundle Series: The Chosen Designation: Book Four of Series and Complete Compilation of Three Book Sub-Series, Standalone, NO Cliffhanger Author: Charlene Hartnady My Rating: FIVE DELICIOUSLY CUTE STARS***** Good Golly Miss Molly! Charlene has totally rocked it again with Awakened by the Vampire Prince. I absolutely loved it! This story was originally released in three separate installments, Rosebud, Flower and Thorn but this convenient collection is the complete compilation of all three. Although this story can be read as a standalone, I would also highly recommend reading Charlene's Chosen by the Vampire Kings, Stolen by the Alpha Wolf and Unlikely Mates Series since many of the characters in this book are also included in each of the aforementioned stories. I think that's one of the things that I truly enjoy most about Charlene's books. The premise and the characters for each book are very well developed and carried forward throughout each series. The familiarity of the characters makes it so easy and enjoyable, enabling the reader to fall comfortably into each story. Her characters are always my favorite part of each of her series. They are always captivating, engaging, laugh out loud funny and sexy. Va..Va..Voom! Of course, the story is always exciting, thrilling, funny, exceptionally well written, romantic, arousing and oh so seductive. Charlene skillfully combines these elements to craft a delightfully entertaining paranormal offering filled with humor, adventure, suspense and lots of romance. Prince Xavier and Princess Esral have been dancing around each other for months. The problem is, they've been dancing to different tunes. Fortunately for us, I think their playlists are about to be synced! Yowza! We first met Princess Esral when she was introduced in Book Four of Charlotte's first series, Chosen by the Vampire Kings and she really made quite the entrance. Her father, Elven King Katar, gave her as his most prized possession to the vampire kings, Zane and Brant, as a token of peace between the elven people and the vampires. What? She was to be mated with one of the kings as a sign of good faith and to broker a truce between the species. Oops! The kings already have a mate - the same woman, their Queen Tanya! Esral was to be mated to royalty so that only left Brant's brother, Prince Xavier, but he refused to mate with the elven princess. Oh goodness! How disappointing! But Princess Esral decides to remain with the vampires and with Tanya's help, she finally receives permission from her father to date and choose her own mate. The only problem is, she wants the one vampire male who apparently doesn't want her - Xavier. Oh my! But if Xavier doesn't want her, then why does he threaten any male that approaches her??? I think Prince Xavier doth protest too much! Esral has just received word that her father is very ill and may be dying. She must return home to Pulamor. If her father dies, her brother, Prince Keto, will become king and for some reason he hates vampires so that means the fragile relationship between the two species will be destroyed. Yikes! A union between the two races is imperative. Oh my glory! Upon her return, she's criticized, ridiculed and rejected by her own people. They think she's defective because she's still unmated and apparently, not even a vampire will have her. And to make matters even worse, her brother's evil, manipulative girlfriend, Cheri, is spreading nasty rumors about her. Oh no! She has to find a way to salvage the situation to alleviate her father's shame. What's a princess to do? Try to seduce a mate, of course! But will it be Xavier? Or her other guard, sweet York? Or her once intended, nasty Zafar? Will Xavier finally realize and profess his true feelings for Princess Esral before it's too late??? He definitely wants her but has his realization come too late??? What's really wrong with Esral's father, King Katar? Is his illness due to natural causes or is foul play to blame and if so, then who is responsible??? And just what in the world is the evil, manipulative, low-born, former server Cheri up to? Hmmm.... I wonder??? All is certainly not as it seems! We'll just have to read the conclusion to find out. So get ready my lovelies! Here we go again! Let the games begin! No spoilers from me but I will say this... Beautiful elven princess whose thorn is still unbroken-check! And just what is a thorn, you ask??? You don't want to know!!! Handsome, sexy vampire prince whose too stubborn to admit he's in love-check! Drama, suspense, humor, angst, heated attraction, sweet romance and some steamy dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! Deliciously Cute, Fabulously Funny, Seriously Sexy and Delightfully Entertaining! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!!!
I am ADDICTED to this series; I can get enough of this paranormal romantic goodness. With alpha males in all shapes and sizes with Ménage à trois, MFM love triangles (eat your heart out), Vampires, Shifters, and Elves. It is Sexy, it is Sizzling, it is smoking Hot, it is Erotic so much so that it jumps right off the pages and leaves you needing a cold shower. Sassy, headstrong females, and fighting to the death is not uncommon. So, what happens when smoking hot vampires and shifters, mortal enemies want the same thing; this is where things get so interesting, and the fun begins. These men are ruthless, they are vicious, power players, they are violent. There is lots of action, danger and war around every corner but given all that they love fast, they love with their whole heart and make you want to go and find your own. Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, deceit, suspense, drama and love that will leave you breathless. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real. It is not all doom and gloom though there are plenty of witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud especially Zane and Becky, they crack me up. Don’t even stop to think just click and read and tell me I am not wrong. Happy reading!

I can see that this author has quite a following and there are a lot of reviews from people that really enjoyed it. I thought I would give it a go but I had to give up on it i thought this book was just terrible. Absolutely terrible. The way that that the characters are written and the way that the male characters talk about the female characters is like porn. Its something about the way almost everything in this book relates back to Xaviers penis (and every other male characters penis). The author writes that the characters are in love and are telling the readers that this is a romance/ love story but there is no evidence of this in the plot and within the interactions between characters. The behaviour of the brother makes no sense, he goes from being completely judgemental, traditionalist and controlling to 'i was duped by the women i was having sex with' who he probably (if he is such a traditionalist) wouldn't have looked at twice for a marriage as she is lowborn and becomes a loving kind brother who will make things better for the plight of women. Like what?! Don't even get me started on the hymen twist where its actually like a thorn and the males have to hurt their precious equipment in order to have their brides, sure lets just encourage ideas that men de-virginizing (probably not a real word) women are heroes.

These characters weren’t as bad as in the other books, but I can’t stand the ‘drama bc of miscommunication’ trope. I wasn’t sure I was going to read another book in this series, but I broke down and did. This will, however, be the last book I ever read from this author. I am no longer willing to support authors who actively push this attitude that it’s a good thing to run around and screw everything in sight. That it’s ‘forward thinking’ and that if you value virginity and virtue, that you’re stuck in the dark ages. We need to stop lying to ourselves. Promiscuity is bad, period.
This is just one example taken from the book:
“So what if I had rutted with half of the vampire males though? Would it make me any less of a person?” His face turned red and he growled. “No really. Hear me out. Would it really be so bad?” Keto nodded. “Yes it would, Esral. Listen to yourself.” She took a step towards him. “This whole thing of highborn females remaining untouched while all other elves can cavort to their hearts content. It isn’t right, Keto. Elves, regardless of class, should be free to do whomever they choose.” His eyes widened. “Really, Esral? Do whomever? Did you just say that?” “Yes, I did.” She put her hands on her hips. “Come on. We don’t live in the dark ages. Even the humans are more advanced sexually.”
Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book four of seven of The Chosen series.
King Katar is gravely ill. Esral must go back to her place of birth, to be at her father’s side, during this difficult time. She is relieved when her protector, Xavier, is not permitted to accompany her. It is becoming more difficult to deny her feelings for the vampire prince who clearly feels nothing for her in return. Right now, she must focus on her father’s needs and on getting him well again, regardless of what it might cost her in the end.
The elven princess is a delicate beauty of the rarest kind. Xavier has the utmost respect for the female and the ideals she holds so dear. A complete innocent, she plans on saving herself for her future mate. If only she knew the kinds of thoughts he had about her, she would never allow herself to be alone with him ever again. May never even speak to him again and he wouldn’t blame her. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
Xavier and Esral's story is sweet. A virgin because of the lores of her people, the Elf princess Esral becomes the fiancee of Xavier, the vampire prince. Not a problem if it was not imposed on them. Their feelings get confused. Xavier has the hots for her, but she is a virgin. If he tumbles on the sheets with Esral, they will be mated and he is not interested in that. Esral is falling hard for the prince but he doesn't give signs of reciprocating her love. The situation is tense and gets worse when Esral's father appears on the verge of death. Her love problems become small compared to such danger, and she goes back to her people to look after her father. Among betrayal, jealousy, lies, attempts of murder and serious magic, the couple has to find a solution to their weird situation. The fourth book of the chosen series reveals again the family oriented heart of Charlene Hartnady. Her characters are strong beings who care about those around them. And Xavier is seriously hot! The vampire prince is ready to fight for his princess to defend her from harm. What else can be hotter? His broad shoulders, his eight pack abs, his smoldering eyes, his lush lips. I think you got the picture. Awakened by the prince is a modern fairy tale. And it is really hot.
Not her best work by far. While I have enjoyed most of the books by this author, I had a hard time getting through this one. It really seemed to drag, with the characters just going back and forth, doing and saying the same things over and over. I will say that I did enjoy the nice plot twist at the end. I also noticed how much the author over uses a few phrases ('lips in a thin white line' and 'needing her/him more than needing my next breath'), and then realized that she actually over uses those same phrases in almost every book in this series. I don't remember the phrases being used much in the Program or Bride Hunt series (which I actually read before this one), but those two phrases are used absolutely everywhere throughout every book in this series. I probably really only noticed because I was forcing my way through this particular story. Luckily I have already read her other series and enjoyed them, so I will simply assume that this book was just the odd one out and not hold it against the author in general.
Slow read for me. It drove me nuts that neither main character could figure out who they were meant to be with, so that was the primary tension moving the plot forward.
It's such a tiresome plot device because to get to the HEA they just have to change their minds, but only after readers have been tortured for 85-90% of the book by the two people getting the HEA. At that point, ok, wayyyyyy before then, like at 20% in, I don't even want to root for the two idiots any longer.
I hated that the H & h names were oddly similar.
The whole thorn thing was wayyyyyy gross.
The villain was pretty obvious, but I'll give a half star for at least switching it up a little.
Even the dying elf king was tedious. If anyone actually spoke aloud what they were thinking/feeling, this could have been wrapped up in 10 pages.
I don't mind world building or robust character development, but wishy-washy drivel is not worth my time.
I want to start off by saying that I really have enjoyed this series and this book was no exception. Now, having said that, I took a star away because of the whiny inner monologues. I hate when book characters are so dense about the other person's feelings about them. Even when the feelings have been shared with one another! It's like, you already know what you're thinking is not what's going on you idiot, lol... But aside from that, I loved everything about the book. I will definitely be continuing on with the series (regardless of people being stupid and feeling unloved, lol) And will also be checking out more from the author - because woman definitely knows how to write sex scenes! Wowzers!! Lol
Esral must marry, but which vampire steps forward?
Charlene Hartnady spins a great tale about events leading up to and including Esral's mating. The story takes place in the elven village because King Katar is gravely ill and wants his daughter mated before he dies. It's a wild ride with more than one vampire claiming Esral, vicious gossip, and an attempted murder. I highly recommend you read this installment of The Chosen series.
I just have to add I absolutely love the story of a young maiden elf's thorn and the true mating ceremony. I think it would be great if more species had "thorns"!
Out of all the books in this series, this one was pretty refreshing from the "formula." I was invigorated by the introduction to a new setting and species quirks with the elves. And there was a good balance of internal and external struggles for the love birds to overcome. The suspense portion was believable and not as predictable as I thought it was going to be. It was a satisfying read, and the only reason I'm holding a star back is because in three months I wont remember this one per se or crave a re-read in the midst of the other books I gorge on in this genre.
Compared with the characters appearing in the rest of these series, Esral is a little on the tedious side, though since she is actually the princess of the elves, caught in politics that are bigger and badder than her, one is willing to cut her slack in this regard. Likewise with Xavier.
That said, while the book could have been a standard virginity-obsessed bit of rubbish, the big twist at the end changes things A LOT-- and will have you cackling maniacally to yourself.
Again, I would recommend reading the other books in the series first.
Sometimes you need a bit of Romance, and this delivered.
I usually read Adventure/ Romantasy. This was lower on the Adventure and the Fantasy but, full of romance. I've read the previous books in this series and this one is lower on spice and bloodshed but, more romantic. Like warm fluffy blanket 😁
It's a Vampire and Elves story, with some interesting and unique additions. I don't want to give any spoilers but, if this was in the real world, men would only want relations with women they were sure we're experienced.
Awakened by the Vampire Prince: The Chosen Series Book 4 By Charlene Hartnady Kindle unlimited purchase Her thorn Elf princess, Cheri, was given permission by her father to date and she has her eyes on one particular vampire. Xavier has a plan for his life one that does not include one particular Elf princess. I enjoyed this book. I recommend reading the series in order as characters play a roll in all books.
Xavier is a vampire prince and Esral is an elfin princess. Her father gave her to the vampires in the hope she could find a mate. It takes them awhile to decide they like each other. Xavier has always felt he wouldn’t take a mate. But the little princess has stolen his heart. But her brother is trying to force her into mating another. Loved this story and read it in one day. Couldn’t put it down.
I loved the books before this one in the series. This one was awful. The heroine was a whiny little spoiled brat that annoyed me terribly. I'm happy at least someone was able to fall in love with her. The only reason I'm giving it a 2 star instead of 1 is because the end made things a little better. Please no more whiny, pouting, ultra not-really-self-reliant but says she is kind of women please. York ftw. <3
This book is SOOO FREAKING WEIRD. I absolutely HATED their weird anatomy and their vocabulary for it. Men have "roots" as penises and a female's virginity is a "thorn". Turns out, the "thorn" is ACTUALLY a legitimate part of the females' anatomy. Inside is an incredibly sharp and durable thorn that must be broken, preferably by the new husband with his penis. The prince in this book does it with great pain and lots of blood. I was horrified. I do NOT recommend.

I am obsessed with this entire series of 4 so far and getting the fifth one shortly! The Story is GREAT but the SEX is CONSTANT! I, personally , don't mind it but there may be some readers who disapprove. I love the characters and can picture every scene as if I was there. The sexual trysts are also very explicit so I am warning others if its not to your liking! I have to run now so I can purchase the next in the series!!!
I have to admit, I really skimmed this book. I don’t like deception that goes on for most of the book undiscovered, especially if it’s a woman. Add to that this MMC was basically avoiding his feelings and could have made his move months before but still wanted to be with other women? Yeah...no. It doesn’t come out and say it, though it feels a lot like cheating to me. Told from both main characters POV. It wasn’t a bad read, just not great for me.
Wow Prince Xavier what a hot hunk he is but a bit of an idiot as well nearly losing the little elf princess Estral to one of his men. There is also the mystery of the elf king's illness what is causing it? This is a good read that introduces the elves and their customs to us and brings in a bit of mystery and controversy .
Awakened by the Vampire Prince, book 4 of Charlene Hartnady's The Chosen series has everything you could need in a great book. It's full of laugh out loud moments and some of the most erotic scenes you'll ever read. This series gets better with every page.
I do not even know what to write. This book is just terrible. The characters are terrible, from how they act, think to the way they talk. A waste of time . The other books in this series are no good already, beside 1 book, but this one is even worse. Do not waste your time on this bs. That is my opinion. Not even worth 1 star
I really enjoyed the book. For some reason it was missing something. The 1st 3 books were the best. I just can’t put my finger on it. It had a good mystery part but…. I don’t know.
Would I still recommend this series with 3 more books to go. Yes! I still give this book a 3.5/ 5 stars rating
Not a bad storyline but drug on for far to long making the story uneven. The story can be read as a standalone but with the drawn out parts of the story it would make more sense if you read the other stories first.
