When a wolf comes to the valley, the animals get scared. How can they escape being the wolf's next meal? One clever rabbit has an idea. With engaging text and easy-to-follow panels, Discover Global Folktales are perfect for graphic novel fans new and old.
Something of a trickster tale from Iran, a clever rabbit chases off a hungry wolf that had been harassing him and his non-predator animals. The illustrations are sweet, but there wasn’t anything in particular that made me think “this story is definitely Iranian.” Maybe it’s just having finished stories of Rustam and ancient Persia where the world was full of sand and heat? I generally love the idea of any collection of folklore from around the world, I might just hunt up some more titles in the series…
An adorable Iranian early reader graphic novel (with directions) folktale about a rabbit who outsmarts a hungry fox and saves his friends. I love the watercolor in this one. There are discussion questions in the back as well to reflect on the story.
In this Iranian folk tale presented as a graphic novel, the very cute characters will surely captivate young readers with imminent danger barely escaped, team decision-making (both successful & not), fears overcome, finding a center of peacefulness in one’s soul, and calling for helpful friends.
My heart sank when the meek and humble rabbit first decided to sacrifice all for the greater good – and my heart soared when a tiny but clever idea causes the tables to turn.
Has so much empathy, beauty, and inspiration *ever* been packed into as perfect a package?
I think children will want to read & re-read this story many times, and take time to absorb everything in it. Parents, grandparents, and caregivers will find as much to appreciate as children.

When a hungry wolf moves into a valley among peaceful animals, it's up to a clever rabbit to somehow convince the wolf that there is another wolf much stronger than him to avoid being the hungry wolf's next meal.
