RWI Comprehension is the next step in developing children's composition and writing skills once they have become confident readers. Children work through the 30 weekly modules, specially written to link reading and writing activities to carefully levelled texts. Each of the 16 children's books listed have an accompanying module with activities which provide practice in reading, writing and spelling, and consolidate the pupils' knowledge through comprehension and guided composition. The illustrated children's books that accompany 16 of the Comprehension modules can all be purchased from Oxford University Press in the same way as the module packs.
In Geeta's Day, the reader is taken on a short insightful journey through a day in the life of an Indian village. The story is told from the perspective of a 6 year old child and focuses mainly on her family and immediate surroundings. The combination of photographs and written commentary result in an informative reading experience. Although, this book is clearly aimed at young readers, I found it interesting and educational. I felt throughout the journey as though I was being given a real ' fly on the wall' look through the village and some of its interesting peoples and customs. Because of the factual documentary aspect of the book it could be effectively employed as a tool for a Geography, RE or PHSE lesson.
